I used 10+ mins as the lowest bar, but before the past 2 weeks the norm was Back-ups lasting for 30-120mins, even 3hrs. Look at the second orange chart column. The longer Back-ups are lasting, the later BG 80-120 is being dealt out. Prior to 2 weeks ago it wasn't that 98% of all BGs were given out in the first 30-60 seconds and the rest trickled out for 30-120 mins. There is a big difference in chances to ride dependent upon how long backups last in the system.

Maybe before the new normal (when they changed opening time to 8:00). But since then, ALL regular BGs (which is anywhere from 40-60) are gone within 30 seconds. And if there are 10k people in the park at 8:00 and 100 people/BG, that's 100 BGs gone instantly. BG #s <100 just aren't lasting for more than a couple minutes tops on any day. Maybe #150 or 200 will hang around on a slow day when people are trickling into the park. The meat of the bell curve goes instantly, and it's just a question of how long before the tail goes.

Ya...busy day.

107 - did not drop - got compensated for 3 people.

The one extra day pass may not mean as much to me as rolling the dice and calling to change the fastpasses to my trip days 2nd and 3rd week in March.

This tells me they still have no clue what happened and the same thing may happen tomorrow.

Yikes!!! Just read some of the other posts, and now feel incredibly fortunate for our luck today. To not only get to ride an early group, but to go a second time was really lucky! There did seem to be some unhappy people today.

In regard to how “full” it was, I will say our first time through we definitely had some waits in line. The second time (around 230) we went through FP line, so not sure how the line looked. However, it didn’t seem as busy that round through at other stops along the way.

I can't say much as I myself was not told anything else but I have a friend that works in the IT department and all he said was that that are aware of what happened. I tried to pry and asked if this was a test for something to come or just a glitch and was told he couldn't elaborate.
Hopefully it's just a fluke and will never happen again

Wait... What does this mean? We will be there Monday, and DHS is our first park day. We bought the tickets months ago and they show up in the app. Do we still need to go to the ticket counter still? My family will NOT be ok if we miss getting a boarding group for something stupid.
Maybe. I’d give yourself extra time. We got our tickets on a package that included our resort (Port Orleans) and the Dining Plan. Since the tickets showed up in the app like they had when we bought a one day ticket just in September, we didn’t think anything was different about it. Apparently they expected us to pick up our Magic Bands and Check in to the resort before going to a park and that was the problem. Going to a park prior to checking in to the resort was not something the computer system liked. They ended up having to issue us a plastic card to use for the day. We had magic bands already from staying on Disney property the night before, but Coronado Springs, not Port Orleans, and had been told our reservations would automatically switch over and we wouldn’t even need new magic bands (this wasn’t the case). If you just have tickets and already have your magic bands, I’m sure you’ll be fine. If you are also checking in that day to a Disney resort on a package, I’d absolutely give yourself extra time in case you have to go to guest services or not do DHS the first day, unless you have park hoppers and can try again. I asked several cast members, several times, if I was going to have issues and was told no, and I did...there is no guarantee except to get there at 6 am, or wait until you know your tickets are working.

Oh god. Queen of speculation over here reading into that, feeling like if it was just a glitch he would have said so. 😬

I have been lurking on this thread for a few days. We don't go to WDW for another year, so hopefully the process changes by then.

I think it is very coincidental that they had this glitch in the app and then RotR performed so poorly today. What do you guys think the likelihood is that they took advantage of the smaller boarding groups to shut down the ride to troubleshoot some of their common issues? I mean, it would have looked terrible if they had raced through all the boarding groups and shut the ride down at lunchtime. So why not spread out the groups a little and take some extra time to address some of the problems causing unreliability?

That is just a theory, but it just seems a little too coincidental to me.

Here was my response to someone else who speculated the same way this morning:
They would not do this, imo. The ride is too flakey to play games with it in the way you describe. They will run it until it breaks down, then get it going again as quickly as possible. Every day there is a distinct possibility that the ride will be down too much for them to move everyone through. Why would they possibly take it offline on purpose and risk having REAL problems later in the day that then cause some groups to not get called?

I have a friend there today that got BG 90. Didn't get into any details with her about what her process was but it's been slow going today. Hoping she still gets on!
Heard from my friend. She never got called, obviously, but was offered a recovery FP and a park ticket. Given that she had a backup BG (90), this is a surprise. Think she got notified via text after she ate dinner. Clearly this was a little extra as a result of today’s debacle as she was not guaranteed a ride. She was not aware of the “glitch”. Said that when she got her BG, “tons of people got backups, lots of angry people”. I explained to her what happened. She was surprised to hear it.

Hey everyone - my family members came to HS today and got a boarding group at park open. They never got on. They had group 107. This was their first and only trip to Disney and they came just to do Galaxy’s Edge. They didn’t even go to any other parks. They did not understand about going to guest services today to try and get any type of FP or tickets. I’m just heartbroken for them, they’re huge star wars fans. Is there any chance they can get compensated now or is too late at this point?

Have you heard from them? Seems like people that had backup groups today were getting compensation and being notified through a push notification from the MDE app. Not sure how high they were going in BG Numbers but you can see a few people posting here inThe past couple of pages of their experiences. My friend had 90 and got compensated.

Tell them to look in their MDE for a FP in My Plans and a one day comp ticket in Tickets and Passes.

I also was in a boarding group not called and I didn’t have to do anything. The fast pass and complimentary ticket just automatically went to my account. I can pull them up in the app. So tell them to check because they probably got the same thing!

Hey guys. So, full day at MK, so really couldn't catch up on all this thread. Tomorrow is our morning. We're at Caribbean Beach, and the way those buses run, will just Uber over. No plans to RD anything. I just missed our regular practice session, because our plane landed at MCO at 8:15ish. Has there been any word on if things are any way fixed for now glitch-wise? Or are we in the dark and just cross our fingers for tomorrow? We lost our at-home support for BG for tomorrow, so, just us in the park. We're as prepared as we can be.

You’re right. They were given a multiple experience fp that says multiple theme parks. That’s really only valid for Hollywood studios though right? Like they couldn’t go to Animal Kingdom on that type of compensation correct?

FLukes happen, but usually due to some change to the system. The software probably has a switch where you can turn on or turn off "have to be in the park" (probably for software testing capability) .. and somehow that switched got turned on in their production environment. So they were testing some change .. and it snuck into live.
