Sit Down lunch Embarkation Day

I know that the option to avoid cabanas and eat at one of the sit downs exists the day you board the ship. How do you know which restaurant to go to? Is it the same one each time or can it vary each cruise? We'll be on the Disney Dream for a 4 night to the Bahamas if that makes a difference!

TIA!

When you board, the crew will be in the atrium, they will direct you to Cabanas and the sit down restaurant that is open for lunch.

When we have boarded, usually the dining room just off the atrium is available to have your sit down lunch. There are fewer people there, less hectic and more room for your roll-on luggage. Now, it will be slower than going to Cabanas which might take time from swimming, touring the ship, etc...your choice.

It can vary and usually will not know until you arrive. On my past 3 cruises aboard the Dream, embarkation day sit down lunch was different on all three sailings; Enchanted Garden, Royal Palace, and on my most recent sailing, Animator's Palate. I prefer the sit down lunch option but went with Cabanas on the most recent sailing.

That’s true on the smaller ship, but the atrium restaurant on Dream and Fantasy is reserved for the Concierge Embarkation lunch. Embarkation lunch is in AP, while EG is usually reserved for the dining assignment changes.

Thanks for the info on this. I did not know about the Concierge lunch...hope we didn't crash it a time or two.

It is a new offering from around a year ago. You can’t really crash it. There’s a CM at the door directing guests to AP and checking cards to check if you are Concierge, plus the Concierge hosts are inside and welcome you personally.

The Concierge Lunch has been around three years in April (Our first cruise was in 2018 and it started a few weeks before it). You would not be able to crash it. :)

Just idol curiosity, but what is the Concierge Welcome Luncheon menu like? I've seen the other embarkation day lunch menus but have yet to come across this one.

It is the same menu as the embarkation day lunch with a couple of added items. I know one of the added items is a poached lobster salad. Alcoholic drinks are also included.

yes, the drinks make it nice. It has always been quiet when we have dined in there in the past. Seems like I always get the Beef empanadas and the muffuletta sandwich.

That is what I get too. :) I am going to branch out this year though.

That’s what we got both times we ate there. Our first few cruises where it was offered, we couldn’t break our old habit of rushing to cabanas, but we now prefer going there. Bellinis and lobster salad make for a nice start to a cruise.C7ADDD7F-28AB-410F-AF1F-10516B6AC1C1.jpeg

About how long does lunch take in the sit down restaurant? Trying to decide between the sit down and the Cabana's. My wife is worried the sit down will take too much time from exploring the ship with the kids. Its our first cruise with the kids, but the second for my wife and I. So we can't decide!

I find the sit down lunches to be REALLY slow.

Fine with just my husband, WAY TOO LONG for the kids.

(Especially considering there is a long dinner that night!!!)

We often do a sit down lunch on embarkation on any cruise. The last one we did on DCL in May was fast. I believe we were seated and eating within 10-20 minutes. Skip dessert and it will go faster. Cabanas is not my fave on embarkation day.
