Two new Podcast members...still no diversity?

Let's be honest, compared to the early years of the podcast, there's no one in the current batch of the crew who is truly is a standout personality.

Who in the past has been a "standout personality"? I can't think of anyone who has been any more stand out than anyone who's on the show now. Maybe Charles?

I kind of agree. For me Pete is the Dis, if all of the others left, it would still be a great show because of Pete. I would miss some of them but they aren't crucial. Whoever sparks interest in Pete and whoever he can bounce of the best is who I want on the show. I've listened to some of Pete's patreon solo shows and alot of times he doesn't talk about Disney, but I am still hooked. I like his point of views and how he articulates those views. I really liked Charles and miss him too though, he had unique IDEAS and points of view too.

I agree that it would be refreshing to have different perspectives from people of different colors on the show. It's always nice to feel represented as it's easier to identify with someone who is the same race and gender as us. That being said, I don't think they are going out of their way to exclude any group of people from employment. I'm sure they'll eventually find a good fit.

Charles was tremendous.

Underutilized guy right now is Rhyno. Loved disPOP and I feel like he could do more on podcasts or have another disPOP-type show that he does on his own. i know he hosts 'best and worst' but, IMO, that theme is played out and they could use a new one hosted by him.

As a black dude myself (and I’m speaking from that perspective), I do wish that vloggers who look like me had more visibility whether it’s here on The DIS or otherwise. I also don’t believe for a minute that they’re being intentionally exclusive at The DIS. I have no doubt in my mind that if a POC who’s highly qualified for a role on the team was to present themselves, they’d be hired.

That being said, I do think that I exist as a minority within a minority. From my observation, I just don’t think that culturally there are that many black people who would consider themselves Disney Parks Enthusiasts. It’s kind of a double-edged sword because it creates a situation where my ethnicity appears to be underrepresented in this fandom because there’s not that many of us to begin with, let alone those of us who put content out.

All this being said, if anyone has any good POC Disney podcasts, I’d love a recommendation.
Not a POC Disney show, but I am a big fan of Double Toasted. It is probably my favorite movie, TV, pop culture podcast/vlog right now.

So diversity means skin color? Not people from all with different backgrounds, genders, sexual orientations, and ages?

Got it.
Do you not think those are ones filed? you have multiple genders, and ages, and clearly sexual orientations and abilities or at least one family with a child with additional needs. so yes, at this moment it is about racial identity.

I realize you can’t speak for the whole black community but why do you think black people aren’t Disney parks enthusiasts? Do your black friends/relatives thinks it’s weird that you are an enthusiast? I get grief from friends and family about going to Disney so often. I can’t tell you how many times we get the “your going again”. I would assume this it true for all Disney people regardless of race.

I 100% agree with you that if the right black person came along and the dis team was looking, they would get hired in a minute. I would hate for them to hire one just for appearance sake or to fill some unwritten quota like the op suggests.

The reason you are getting pushback is because you titled this thread “two New podcast members... still no diversity?
As you have just described, the dis podcast is full of diversity. They just don’t have someone at the moment that looks like you.

Telling people how to run their show also isn't a great look, especially when you aren't paying for it.

If you start forcing non-organic changes, then you ALWAYS end up with lower quality content, or the content goes away altogether. These shows are good because the individuals get along well and bounce off each other. (Organic meaning that Pete runs into someone, they become friends and Pete offers the person a spot on the show because Pete thinks that individual would be a good fit).

If they end up bringing on a POC, great! I'm sure that Pete will make sure that the individual will work well with the existing team.

I personally care much more about the content of the show than the skin color of the person delivering it.

And if a POC has a different perspective that only a POC can have (because everyone has a different perspective) and can add value to the conversation, then sure, I would be interested in hearing it.

But I would hope that Disney World isn't so racist that a POC person would have a different experience doing the same thing as a non-POC.

Although, it is entirely possible that POC in general have different tastes in food and entertainment. My gut reaction is that people have different tastes regardless of skin color, but I could be wrong. If I am wrong, then I can see the argument for having a POC on the show.

That being said, I'm a white dude, so what do I know.
SO much to unpack here but what stands out to me is your feeling that having people of color could be non-organic? I'm sorry do we not naturally exist in the world? Also, of course, one's existence as a POC gives a different world view than those of the majority that's what's beautiful about inclusion. Remember when the confederate flag was removed and I believe Theresa and Julie were on the panel discussing it. The very biased comments that weren't corrected? Those were moments of good intent but the actual impact. Moments that may be different if there were others at the table.

As for your last comment, yes you are a white dude, who likely knows many things but still has much more to learn, as do many people.

Come on... posts like this are unnecessarily obtuse.

We all know what OP meant... it's a podcast full of white people. It would be nice if there was a non-white person on.

Pete can hire who he wants, and I don't think for half a second there's any prejudice in his picking. But let's not pretend that what OP said is some radical request.

The Moms Panel never fails to have racial diversity, for the most part, every year. I don't think it's intentional at all but I definitely think its fixable, if they can bring Morgan in... why not others. I don't think we are that much of a minority within a minority as you say, I think its more about providing a platform/space where people will feel welcomed. Maybe I should start a thread for POC to come and talk about Disney. LOL

IMO, I see no issue here? Maybe they should be able to hire who they want, not be pressured into finding people who are a different race. Maybe there aren't any people of a different race who want to work there.

Plus people are pushing to have people who aren't white to be equal in the world, but it's hard to do that when society makes them seem like they're a completely different species who can't succeed, when they are just people who can.

We can agree to disagree. If the dis only hired middle aged gay men then there would be a diversity problem but they haven’t. As already stated, they have a diverse group of genders, ages, sexual orientation’s ect...

If the op wanted to make a post that said why are all the podcast members white then I wouldn’t have a said a word. I would have rolled my eyes and not even clicked on the thread. Contrary to what some people think diversity isn’t a skin color issue.

I hope the next person they hire is funny, snarky and has a vast knowledge about Disney like most of the currant members. If that person is black, that great. If they aren’t that’s fine too.
What ever happened to hiring the best person for the job? I know I wouldn’t want to be hired somewhere because of my age, gender or the color of my skin. I would want to get the job becase I was the most qualified.
