Two new Podcast members...still no diversity?

So, while I don't want to take away from the spirit of the OP, I would argue against the title of the thread, which includes "no diversity."

I kind of had to chuckle to myself a bit, because considering how many members of the podcast are members of the LGBTQ community, I would consider this statement of "no diversity" quite off-base.

I also think they have diversity in spades. They have diversity of sexual orientation, religious diversity, age diversity; people of different backgrounds, people who grew up with different levels of Disney experience. Single people, married people. Men, women. Parents, single with no kids, a family with a child with special needs. I think if you look at all the different podcast members, as people, there is vast diversity, in their lives and in their experiences.

Again, I totally respect those who feel differently. And, I can completely understand your wishes to see more representation. But, I think Pete and his crew do an excellent job of putting together a team that jives well, plays off each other, and promotes his brand well. I do believe that when Pete brings in talent, he will choose the best person for HIS team, whether the person is white, black, purple, or polka dot.

I think the OP could take a lesson from the words of a great man who once walked among us:

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Kinda in poor taste. Good intentioned I’m sure, but...

Slightly related, but Shawn Rosell/Negrolando did a recent video on the topic in general.

Also, not for nothing, but if you're on Twitter, he's one of the many great DisTwitter people to follow!

I don't do anything at all with Twitter, so I knew nothing about what was being discussed in the video posted. I'm just starting to watch it now, and I want to say thank you for posting it.

Trust me when I tell you that I am thrilled beyond measure with the LGBTQ+ presence on The Dis, but that doesn't mean that I wouldn't also love to see more and different types of diversity as well. The more diverse the group of members are who are doing the podcasts, the more perspectives they can showcase, and that is beneficial for everyone.

Chiming in to say that I think one benefit of diversity is representation. I read that Ellen Pompeo called out a magazine for a lack of diversity saying “When I show up on set, I would like to see the crew look like the world that I walk around in every day,” and I think that captures it for me. The crowds that I see at Disney are not represented by the cast on the show. I would love to hear the perspective on WDW from a POC.

Yeah white people telling POC to relax about diversity isn’t a great look.

Telling people how to run their show also isn't a great look, especially when you aren't paying for it.

If you start forcing non-organic changes, then you ALWAYS end up with lower quality content, or the content goes away altogether. These shows are good because the individuals get along well and bounce off each other. (Organic meaning that Pete runs into someone, they become friends and Pete offers the person a spot on the show because Pete thinks that individual would be a good fit).

If they end up bringing on a POC, great! I'm sure that Pete will make sure that the individual will work well with the existing team.

I personally care much more about the content of the show than the skin color of the person delivering it.

And if a POC has a different perspective that only a POC can have (because everyone has a different perspective) and can add value to the conversation, then sure, I would be interested in hearing it.

But I would hope that Disney World isn't so racist that a POC person would have a different experience doing the same thing as a non-POC.

Although, it is entirely possible that POC in general have different tastes in food and entertainment. My gut reaction is that people have different tastes regardless of skin color, but I could be wrong. If I am wrong, then I can see the argument for having a POC on the show.

That being said, I'm a white dude, so what do I know.

Prince Charming Dev is great! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQezjk0MAXoBU3UWTTxrdYw

The Top Flight Family vlog about luxury Disney travel. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjyhd4lm0Cd0DzBKDJhOYUw

Disney on a Dime hasn’t posted in a while, but she has good content. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQbwxA414ghUIoOxE48Y_yQ

They are out there.

DisLyfeofOurs is also great-- they cover the parks and DCL. Marcus Q is a new Disney blogger; I think he'll improve just like Prince Charming Dev has.

The vlog on the matter was good, but if Rossell really wants to reach a wider audience he needs to drop the Negrolando channel name. You can be successful on youtube by appealing to niche audiences, but the audience Rossell seems to be chasing with that channel name is the niche of niche. People regardless of skin color want vacations to be about escapism. They are going to avoid a vlogger whose channel's name gives you the feeling you are going to be hit over the head with social issues with your vacation news and tips.

In regards to him specifically, most of his videos are silly, irreverent stuff. Comically being cheap on production value with special effects and such. And when it's in-park vlogs, it's more comedic than your usual "What's Up Guys" kinds.

DisTwitter is like a vortex that once you follow one person, it will lead to others and then others and others. Next thing you know, you're following all these like minded people that are marginally famous in that very niche circle, hah!

You start with the obvious ones... Craig Williams, Ryno Clavin, Alicia Stella, Jim Hill, and then next thing you know, you're following 50 people who've all been into the discussion of x, y, z.

Prince Charming Dev is great!
I was just about to recommend Prince Charming Dev too. His videos are really good.
I don't base what I watch or listen to based on the colour of the persons skin, their gender or their sexual orientation. As long as the content is good that's all that matters.
I doubt if the show that you're watching is intentionally leaving out POC from their cast, it could just be that they thought the newest member had the most to offer.

This is an unfortunate take on the OPs very thoughtful critique. It is not about judging character it is recognizing that a reality in the US is that POC experience life differently than what I, a white man, do. Increasing racial/ethnic diversity on the show would be nothing but positive. We would all benefit from hearing from people who have different perspectives/experiences. We should all strive to make our businesses/organizations/social groups/friendship groups more reflective of our community's demographics.
This. I never realised how ethnocentric my life was. How much different EVERYTHING is for me because I am white. I dated a black American for a couple years. It was eye opening how differently he approached, HAD TO approach, even the most ordinary things. Things I would never have considered in my ordinary life took on new meaning, and I realised how little thought I put into what it is *actually* like. it was shocking, and I have no doubt that that stretches to the Disney. I think it matters that these experiences and the reality is visible, and noticed. THAT, surely, is how to remove the differences.

Not sure if any of you have watched the DVC show put out by the DIS, but John is a regular on there and, in my opinion, an excellent source. Very knowledgeable and eloquent.

I believe he is either Asian American or Polynesian background? Either way, he represents a segment of the cultural population that are a very significant percentage of Disney fans and visitors.

But, as someone else already mentioned, I'm not exactly sure what the OP's definition of "POC' is.
