Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

The ROI is more from increased cash prices in current resorts, and the cash flow from new DVC sales. I think--but am not remotely sure, someone who knows weigh in--that Disney cannot change the total annual point requirement of already existing DVC resort. It can move them around, but they have to sum over the year to the same total, I think. Bus costs pale in comparison.

For example Pop, AofA, and CB went up about 20% for 2020, compared to ~6% to 8% 2020 increases in the other mods and values. That sums to about an incremental $60 million in 2020 compared to having prices at those three going up at "just" the level of the other mods/values. Search "skyliner premium" on my site for the details.

So I'd look for a new gondola line location with a. a ton of already existing rooms, and b. land for a new standalone DVC after "Reflections" (a name I hate almost as much as I hate "HarmoniUS") opens. Off the top of my head, the drives me to the All-Stars and a new AK focused DVC, with lines to AK and either HS or Epcot.
Thanks for the clarification on the dvc, that makes sense that they can’t arbitrarily just raise the total points at a given resort. I think you’re right about their line of thinking for new skylines. Coronado is another appealing option given its location between AK and the studios, and the amount of room inventory there. Maybe that, connecting all stars to a line like this, and a DVC somewhere along one of the routes is the next step. I at least think that cluster of hotels makes the most sense for the reasons you listed

Rode for the first time today! Have to say it was more convenient than waiting for a bus. Took it from Pop to Riviera for breakfast.

One thought that came to mind is if one of the gondolas fall into the water - how fast they will be filled with water and in turn trapping riders on board. 😓
I don't see that happening.

The thought did cross my mind when I was over Hourglass Lake. I bet you could kick them open pretty easily if you tried.

I think the doors could easily be kicked open from the inside, but I hope no one ever has to find out if it's true.

But water gets in almost instantly with the ventilation ducts for air. Imagine trying to do something with kids on board. Surprised there’s no ability to float on board

Look, I also struggle with what some may consider an unhealthy level of anxiety. If I dwell on every. single. thing. that could harm or kill me once I leave the house, I'd literally never step foot outside of my house. There is a difference between being aware of possible danger and being consumed by it.

I'd have a nervous breakdown if I focused all the time on everything that could go wrong. I can't do that and stay mentally healthy.

Very true but the thoughts only came to mind as others were speaking about it in the rude queues 🤣

Gondolas are not new technology. They're widely in use at ski resorts world wide. I don't think there has ever been an incident of a cabin falling of the line.
Yes, it has happened a few times. Rarely, compared to how frequently they are used, though.

I have anxiety and I am terrified of heights. I made myself take the Skyliner and I really liked it. It’s much better than taking a bus. The only issue I had is when the Epcot line stopped and I swayed in the wind. It only lasted a few minutes but the thought of being stuck on there for 3 hours races trough my head.

Prolonged stoppages are a valid concern for the Skyliner, as we've seen it happen multiple times in the short time it's been open. Gondolas falling off the line into the water is not.

Buses have crashed, boats sank, trains derailed and any number of combinations of that. While tragic, it is life. Safety systems are in place on Disney's transportation and attractions. Odds are you have a better chance of falling out the sky on the way to Orlando.
Adventure is out there.

One person. Freak accident. Chair lift, not gondola.gondola
"In a statement sent to news.com.au, a Thredbo spokesman said the isolated incident caused minor bruising to the man involved only."
I agree. Accidents DO happen. Even Doppelmeyer had an issue in Canada where someone cut the haul rope:
Cable cut, sending cable cars crashing to the ground in Canada's Howe Sound

Even with the Skyliner, we saw issues with cars crashing into one another, causing a 3+ hour delay. They're all "isolated incidents"...
