My family and I got off a little while ago after one failed attempt where the ride broke down and we had to return (with a Fastpass) We enjoyed the ride, and my family said it was worth getting up at 4:45 to do it, however, we won't ride it again this visit due to the time involved in getting onto the ride. I hope it becomes more reliable in the future.
Why did you get up at 4:45? I don't understand why people get there so early if you can't get a BG until park open.

:) I mean I've been saying this since day one, I am obviously in the minority of people not stressing over number of bg, number of people per bg, time of day anyone was called to a specific bg, etc.
My motto since day 1 has been, be at the entrance to DHS at least an hour before opening, have your app ready and join when it opens, that's it
👍 Inside HS and being ready to MDE at official park open are 2 things we can control. We've seen masses of guests joining BGs and riding RoR without hassle. That is the majority experience.
  • The process sounds more intimidating than it really is.
  • Watch a video of a guest joining a BG for reference.
  • Don't stress about FPs/ADRs. For the very few who end up having conflicts, a GET CM can help adjust or offer options (inquire ASAP to allow the most flexibility).
  • Continue checking HS hours before your trip to see changes
To increase your RoR odds as close to guaranteed as possible:
  • Plan 2 mornings to be inside HS before official open (1 day as a back-up)
  • And try on a day mid-week, weekends have more crowds/competition
Important to remember:
  • Everybody joining a BG must be checked in to HS first
  • Regular BGs almost always get called (only 1 of last 23 days did not)
  • Back-up BGs still offer a good chance (last 23 day avg, up to BG154 called)
  • You may leave HS after joining a BG and return later
  • You have 2 hrs to get to RoR once called
  • Relax. If you've done what you can control, may the force be with you :yoda:

I see what you're saying...still doesn't seem quite fair to me but for as many years as I've been going to Disney, there's always someone who finds a way to beat the system. 🤷‍♀️

How is it not fair? No one is getting a boarding group if they aren't in the park. Anyone can ask a friend to help them from home (if they can trust that person with access to their MDE). I just don't see that as "beating" the system.

Yup. And imagine if they didn't have this system? the amount of elbow throwing and low-key sprinting would have been something to behold!

i think that is a great attittude to have ... but for those of us traveling thousands of miles and have 1 shot for the next 12+ months at this, it is a bit stressful just thinking of everything that can go wrong (especially when seeing days were all the regular BGs were gone after 90 secs and we are forced to rely on Disney IT working)

Thank you for saying this. I totally agree.

I don’t blame anybody who is not a frequent visitor for being stressed about this attraction. It is stressful when there’s a lot of aspects out of our control as guests that can really muck up the best laid plans. I totally agree with the advice to arrive early, come prepared, have your day pretty wide open, but honestly that’s stressful in itself when your Disney days are limited and you need to almost block off a whole day for this.

Personally I think it is beating the intent of the system which is that anyone requesting a ride be in the park.

Otherwise they could have just done FP+.

What is the intent of the system in your opinion? To have so many people in the same place accessing it that people have delays to randomize things?

I think the intent is to require people to be in the park before joining, and to deter people from arriving at 4 AM. Having an outside the park helper doesn’t hurt that.

Sure. But this is a theme park ride. It’s not life and death. No one’s life will be ruined if they can’t go on it. Everyone just needs perspective.

Not at all - FP has absolutely nothing to do with this. The point you're missing is that you cannot get a BG until the actually day and until you're actually in the park. That is the complete opposite of the intent of FP+. All you're doing is using a different mobile device. Who is using the mobile device from where is irrelevant and has nothing to do with any intent. And the fact that Disney could easily limit functionality to in park goes against your assertion that that was Disney's intent. All you're doing is cutting down the possibility of technical errors because your phone won't connect. The sole intent of the system is that only people in the park can be placed into a boarding group. Period. There is zero difference between this and me signing on to a friends account to get them FP 60 days out because I know what I'm doing more than they do and can do it more efficiently. No one is getting any more than they are entitled to get and no one is getting an unfair advantage over anyone else.

I think the intent was to deter like you said, but not to have people outside the park booking ride reservations for people in the park. That's what FP+ is for.

It's just an interesting question to me...I hear you and would just say that 1) it feels cheeky (to me) to have relatives and friends on their couches with coffee jamming on MDE for me and 2) there is no doubt that gives me an advantage over other people in the park standing next to me.

But it's a good idea and hey maybe I'll do it! I use all the tricks lol and always have!

If someone is booking for someone in the park, in all likelihood that same person would have secured a BG because they are Disney educated enough to even consider it as an option.

I don’t see someone booking outside the park bringing this any closer to FP+. It really doesn’t change much of anything.

I feel you pain but it helps to think of it this way... there's always something that can go wrong at WDW. Someone in your party gets sick, fireworks rained out (or Fantasmic, like just happened to us with my sis who never saw it yet), Space Mtn or Everest goes down (also happened to us the last day), get stuck in a Skyliner for 3 hrs :P (kidding), etc.

All we can do is prepare ourselves with a good plan. And try to leave ourselves some flexibilty so CMs have more options to help if needed.

I'm totally rooting for you! *fingers crossed* You'll be fine :D

I understand it's not as easy as getting to the park and getting in line, I'm not blaming anyone on being stress im just saying that you don't accomplish anything by being stressed. All of you here are way better prepared, ands you will, most likely, get a bg when you visit

I personally think only phones within a certain distance (small, like 1/2-mile) of the park should be eligible for obtaining BGs, but it appears that is not a popular opinion. Then again, there are very easy ways to circumvent that, too.

I know this was mentioned in the old thread, but I'm here at DHS and came to Launch Bay to see the new "meet the makers" movie, it has a lot of spoilers for RotR. So heads up. Also inside Walt Disney presents there are models of some elements from RotR

I think in actuality there is not much difference between inside/outside HS people joining BGs, mostly it looks to help get a lower number.

It can be useful for guests from outside US. Because most have to rely on wi-fi, this helps level the field for them if they can find someone to help.
