READ POST 1 & 2 FIRST-Rise of the Resistance Boarding Group Planning and Information-*No Spoilers*

I’m in the camp that the right choice was made to allow the abbreviated ride to remain open today. What should have been done better was provide basic context of what was missed in the next phase of the attraction. Avoiding spoilers, there is an reasonable opportunity to do so. You don’t want guests thinking they got the whole experience, or that DHS was hoping they wouldn’t notice.

Thinking about MMRR opening ...
I know when Galaxy’s Edge opened
they used BG’s the first day and they have done this for RotR since the day it opened.
How far in advance did Disney announce that they were doing BG’s for the land? For RotR?
This might give us an idea if BG’s will be used for MMRR

i think it is fair to expecta boarding group type system for any new popular ride. I think after Pandora/fop they new something different was needed going forward.

now how two boring group rides In the same park would work is a big question

Thanks to disboards users and moderators over the last few weeks to help my fam decide to adjust our holiday trip to take three days at DHS. That meant turning in early on NYE to attempt the BG process on 1/1, which turned out to be the right decision. This gave us insurance against ride issues and missed days due to illness, which turned out to be really important.

Galaxy’s Edge does many things very well. My family enjoyed most everything there, including the cantina, other than a few mediocre food items (Pandora’s bowl approach is superior.)

Good luck to all as the ROTR honeymoon period continues. And thanks again to all for your help!

I think when it’s something pretty integral to the story like what was bypassed today, the whole thing should shut down. The immersive aspect of this attraction is (I think at least) what is drawing people in.

I would be annoyed if I went through all that effort to get on this thing and I didn’t get the full experience. I would rather get called that much later in the day, or be given a FP for the next day if it came down to that.
It’s a tough question, and I can’t think of a good, reasonable answer.

Im not certain they can have the whole ride working tomorrow. If they can, giving today’s BG 40+ another FP for tomorrow makes tomorrow a disaster for new guests, and I wouldn’t want to mess up others.

I suppose I wouldn’t mind a FP for my summer trip....because after dozens of trips, today was my 1st ever rope drop, and what I experienced on RotR today was not worth attempting that, again.
(I consider FoP amazing enough to wait 60 minutes for that ride when I won’t wait that long for any other ride)

Going forward, they really, really need a viable plan C or D to at least give guests a believable story and transition. We were sent backstage, outside then rushed through an incredible set, but there was barely any story telling, it seemed some CM’s kinda regretted pushing us along.

Just wondering, is it possible to add park hours (open to close) instead of just opening time? Because that makes a huge difference on the total numbers being called.

I think Carousel of Progress and Country Bears Jamboree work out just fine.

On a more serious note: Interesting that only once since starting Backup Groups did they fail to get through all of the non-Backup Groups (January 3). Good news. And thanks to rteetz for daily update of the table. Provides extremely valuable information for those of us planning upcoming trips.

Actually not bad. I think that's now the highest the regular BGs have gotten since (based on the chart) Dec. 5. Granted it's also lowest # of Backup BGs since Dec. 27 (unless the 94 on Jan. 3 is accurate or is that supposed to say 194?) So the # of Bgs increased this time but they barely got any backups done :S

I wouldn’t really pay attention to regular vs backup. The major factor here is total # of BGs that are given an opportunity to ride - if Disney elected to only issue 50 regular BGs tomorrow but got through 100 total would that be better than today? If they issued 200 regular and got through 180 would that be worse than today? Just some food for thought.

1/3 is not a typo, they only got through 94 BGs - it was a train wreck of down time. Today was also pretty dismal given what some guests ended up experiencing. The chart is wonderful and I appreciate that @rteetz does it but if you aren’t reading all the comments on the thread you’re potentially missing a lot of the important narrative 😊

I think for most of us with upcoming trips there are 3 things that matter:
1) how long do regular BGs last in the morning; the longer the better
2) how long do backup BGs last in the morning; the longer the better
3) how many total BGs do they accommodate during the day? More = better

Very true. I was just noticing that they had a lot of regular BGs available. But I agree that it did seem dismal compared to some previous days. This is why I'm not a numbers guy ;)

I spoke upthread about taking screenshots. I figured I’d just post mine here for all you late sleepers.

As you open MDE you will see this screen. Here, you just need to tap “Find Out More”. (And yes I put a big black oval over the picture because I am afraid of you people when it comes to possible spoilers):

You will then get to this screen and tap “Join Boarding Group”

Since I was not awake until after park opening you will see that the ride had already started running and they were currently boarding groups 7 -23. Above, you will also see the note that initial boarding groups are gone which is why this popped up as I hit “Join Boarding Group”:

Just hit “OK” to clear the message. After the message clears, this is the screen you will see whether you are joining an initial boarding group or a backup boarding group:

You will see that the MDE account owner is automatically selected. Also notice the very handy “Select All” button at the top. In my case, not everyone is riding so I need to unselect and select a few people.

Of course, since I’m just practicing and we’re not at DHS, the following screen pops up after I hit “Join a Boarding Group”:

Unfortunately, from reports we’ve gotten, this screen may appear even if you are in the park. In that case, tap “Remove Guest From Party” and move forward with obtaining a boarding group for the guests that are recognized.

I definitely recommend practicing at home before the big day as it’s super helpful to work your way through the actual process.
Great info!
But FYI, after clicking on “Find out More” you can click on “my Status” on the “My Status” page you can pull down to refresh until “Join Boarding Group” changes color.

I'm a MDE noob in all of this so I apologize for my ignorance in advance. I've read up on this, but it is still confusing.

I have the MDE app and run the planning of my wife and 4 year old son. We are going to DHS in 3 weeks and I want her to be able to use the app with all of us on it as well for the best chance to get a BG.

Now, do I invite her on the MDE and link our accounts and she logs in with her own so we can both try and get BG's for all of us or am I incorrect?

Also, do we have to do anything in regards to the 4 year old when we link accounts?

Thanks in advance!
U can both log in to your account. Do not try to make her a separate account.

My wife is travelling to DW soon and is planning on riding RotR during her stay. I'm trying to understand some of the specifics so I can give her the best chance of getting to experience the attraction with her friends. Once you click the join boarding group option, I see that people say that is when you can add party members to the group. Then after confirming the party members you are shown your group number. Are you able to not add part members during that screen so you can be assigned a group number earlier? Then add the party members to the group afterwards? Haven't found anything online about whether the group number is assigned as soon as you tap the button or after the party members are confirmed.
U have to choose your party before you get a boarding group.

So, the MLK Sunday I am there, the park is opening at 8am (assuming there’s are no changes) I am planning to have no bag, and after going through the no bag line, it’s keep to the right at tap in? What time will be BG’s open? 8am? Not planning on rushing for rides at opening so what time should I aim to get there for considering it’s a holiday weekend?

The skyliner usually does not open in time to be in dhs at park opening. Today the skyliner opened at 7am which was 1 hour before Epcot’s opening.
Have they stopped adjusting the skyliner opening times to not accommodate DHS? When I went 3 weeks ago, the skyliner opening time was adjusted a bit earlier for DHS opening, ie. 6:45am Skyliner opening for 7am DHS opening.

That is a great tip. I didn’t realize a pull-down refresh would work from that page but you’re totally right!! I just texted my DD to tell her. Thanks!!
