Beach Club Availability

Outside of America, you don't poop in a bathroom. You poop in a toilet or WC, you bathe in a bathroom. One toilet - two bathrooms.
Maybe but in the USA f you sell your house and it has one room with a shower, sink and toilet, and a second with a sink and toilet, or a shower and sink. It is listed as 1.5 bathrooms. Not one or two. Rooms like VGF, PVB and now RIV have 1.5 bathrooms. I like them and wish all DVC studios and 1 bedrooms. Yes I know AKV and BLT have a second bathroom in 1 bedrooms, but the rest don’t. While the entire room is larger, a lot of that is taken up by the 1/2 bath and hallway next to it.

Just to chime in here, I just bought into DVC a week ago and choice came down between resale Beach Club or direct Riviera. Even with the shorter contract ended up choosing BCV. The benefits of SAB, walk to Epcot and overall feel of the resort were too strong to overcome. And this coming from someone who loved using the Skyliner on our trip in November.

You made the right choice.

If you’re planning to take a boat from BCV to Epcot, you’re going to walk further than you would have if you just walked over to Epcot.

BCV owners also have use of the Epcot Skyliner station. All things going well, it’s actually a bit faster to take the Skyliner to DHS over the boat.

Gotcha, I did not notice that. My bad.

So yeah, BWV is really a smoking deal with their points charts. We planned to add on this fall, so when we visited WDW in September we took some time there and really felt the place out. Then we went over to BCV, realized we were "home", and added on there instead. Which only proves the point that while point charts are important, they aren't everything! Strictly by them, we should've added on at BWV. But there's more to it.
Catching this a little late, but did I read that you added on to your BCV contract when you were there last? What was the price per point? I keep getting told by my rep that I can't buy the older contracts and while I haven't pushed, I was a little shocked to hear they were so quick to sell you BCV. How long did it take for the points to become available or did they have stock?

BCV direct is $235 per point. It is the worst deal of all DVC resorts on cost per year left. For most it doesn’t make sense to buy direct. Resale value s probably in the $140-150 range. DVC want to sell RIV, not other resorts. BCV is a small resort, I don’t think they use ROFR too often on it. So I don’t think they have many points on hand. They might have some.

WHOA! I guess I'm getting old....When we bought BCV direct it was $115. I can't believe it has gone up that much! I knew the resale prices because I watch those since I have two smaller BCV contracts, but I had NO IDEA direct BCV was $235! We love that resort. When we first bought direct it was at AKV and while I love that AK, I'm glad I also bought BWV and BCV because the variety is nice to have and the value of the BCV contracts just keep going up, I guess because it is small and harder to get during those wonderful F&W months, etc. Thanks for the info!

We wanted a 40-point add-on with our December UY, and based on what we saw was available through the fall it made sense to just buy direct.

Since it was a December UY, we had to wait until after December 1 for the points to become available. Had they sold us the points prior to December 1, they would've had to include 2018 points as well (we were still in the Dec. 2018 UY). They didn't seem to have those, but they did have 40 for us come December 1. In fact, my guide said he was offered up to 50, but we stuck with the 40.

I wouldn't regret buying direct because in the end, it's just so much simpler, especially when you need to match your UY, which really does make things convenient. Also, I never liked the idea of not knowing what they could take away, which they ended up doing as far as the resale contracts are concerned. I realize there is a savings and maybe some people argue our perks aren't really perks, but I've enjoyed lots of perks over the years and taken advantage of so many things I think people neglect to use. Also, as I already mentioned, for me it has already increased in price (almost double) and we bought less than 10 years ago.

In the end, we just love BCV. Of the three resorts we have points in, it's the one resort we never give up at our 7 month to try something else and especially now with SWGE, what a score to have access to it via walking distance! Enjoy your points, no matter how many people on these boards flip over you buying direct! LOL

Totally agree. Some people don't understand that it isn't always about going the cheapest route when there are benefits to be gained going direct. As you said, everyone decides and for many, the ease of direct, and the perks...for however long we have them....are worth it! My motto...life is too short, you can't take it with you...if one is happy, then its all good!
