RotR Planning & Daily Boarding Group Discussion - *CLOSED*

Very true about the opening time, but WDW does this with all other parks and attractions. If people show up for ropedrop at the posted park opening time, they are late. EMH included. I understand a casual guest may not realize that or research the actual opening vs posted times, but there really is no fairness to this system and I am sure they will still be frustrated showing up at 7am park opening time and maybe riding RotR at 9pm if they don't get a standby spot and the ride actually works that day. It should be called a virtual lottery rather than a queue.

To the bolded, exactly. ROTR is now the outlier, whereas it mimicked the other popular attractions (virtually) up until this point.

No, not if they'd posted an opening of 9:00 am but randomly opened at 7:00 am that day, opening the sign up for the boarding groups then. The boarding groups would be gone by about 8:00 AM, well before someone showed up just before 9:00 AM.

Before today, 13 days of data. 4 days BG were filled before posted opening time. considering this included opening week and the craziness of EMH, it's not bad you could still get a BG at park opening. Also, in the beginning (some of the days when BG ran out before opening), people were able to re-ride (get another BG) so that lead to BG filling up quicker.

How? You have to stand in line with 10 other guests waiting on your turn to speak to them while thousands of others are signing up on their phones? Can't possibly give you as low a number as it would if you eliminated the CM
People have reported there were multiple CM’s standing around inside the gates and down Hollywood BLvd. daily available to help. I’ve not heard any reports of any lines.

hm, I've checked every 2 days or so and yet to find boarding groups offered any significant time past park opening. DH, who doesn't research anything, keeps asking me how they are gone so close to opening time. No matter how many times I tell him they open early he doesn't understand.

There's a thread with a chart with actual opening, stated opening, and time BGs have sold out at. Looking quickly at the past week or so, it's been 20-60 minutes after actual opening it fills.

ETA - And you had mentioned groups selling out prior to actual opening and Disney opening the gates hours earlier, no? That has not been the case since they adjusted DHS's hours.

They started letting people into the park half an hour before they opened BG's. That's a lot of people getting into the park over that period of time. Being at the front of that group made no difference.
Rght - I think I agree with you, that everyone who taps in in that half hour window is now on the same footing. But I am also saying that IF the ride runs more efficiently and at full capacity, and that that group will get assigned a BG that gets called right at or a few minutes after 7, that that's ok. For the others who tap in after 7, it's still going to mimic first come, first serve, it will (hopefully) just be spread out a little more.

Sure, if everyone in that first wave of people were essentially put into BG's that opened right away (and the ride could handle it without creating long waits) then it would be fine because everyone could really head straight to the ride. But then you also haven't changed anything.....everyone will still want to be at the front of that pack and line up early.

Once you have your BG you don't have to remain in the park. You have 2 hours to return. This opens you up to do anything anywhere you want. We plan to head over, get a BG and leave.

Maybe, though you still had no control over when your group came up/what number you got. Odds may have been in your favor but you still wouldn't know your group till you got one. Same as today.

Okay ...what boarding group do you think you’ll get? If it’s Group 40 you’re going to leave and come back? I can only speak for myself but I’d stay. Based on today that would put you about 11am. So it’s going to be real hard for you to stick to that plan I think based on our experience

Nope, if we get anything in the double digits, we are leaving. Even if it's back at 11:00 AM.
Why would I want to hang out from 6:00 AM till 11:00 AM? That's 5 hours we could nap LOL

Bottom line - Disney has a communication problem.

They should say what they plan to do and stick with it. These changes make it hard for people trying to plan.

Nothing will please everyone. But let everyone know the procedure...let those people who disagree (me lol) complain and get it out of our system. But then don't change it again to open it up to a new round of whining (me hahaha). Just like parenting....consistency helps my behavior and attitude.

Cruising seems popular in Florida. Can you imagine researching, coming up with a game plan for Galaxy's Edge that you plan to visit after your Disney cruise before you step onto your cruise because you don't plan to pay for a wifi package while on board. Step off your Disney cruise only to find the procedure has all changed.

The only thing that might have changed is that BG assignment would be more random. I wouldn't advise anyone to make irreversible park plans that require a specific time to do a new ride during its honeymoon period. Too many variables, especially during the holidays.

i get that! For us the easy walk on SDD was just too tempting, then we got sucked into everything else. I’m a sucker like that....

THIS.....

So a few questions for speculation:
1) How long do you think this boarding group thing will last?
2) Isn't this boarding group thing just the OLD Fast Pass system ... just done digitally without having to RUN to the Fast Pass ticket machine?
3) When do we think that Rise (and MFSR) will go to the normal Fast Pass system .... or will they ever at this point (because it would be pretty impossible to get a FP unless do it at 60 days with a 6+ day resort reservation)

4) Do we think Mickey's Runaway Railway will be Fast Pass free when it opens? or use a virtual queue as well?

Honestly -they didn’t tell me to show up early that was our decision based on previous information. That’s the line they’re sticking to.

Disney really is causing all of these problems. Look at how well thought out and planned the initial opening of SWGE was on both coasts. DL had the reservation system where resort guests were guaranteed a visit and WDW had the EEMH throughout property to spread crowds. No one was shut out completely. It was announced, communicated, and followed.

RotR has been all over the place like Disney is throwing things at the wall to see what sticks. It is also the most highly anticipated attraction Disney has opened. Makes no sense to me! :confused3
