Booking last minute at SSR

Just looking at availability for the month of January, and I think you have a chance to get something if your timeline goes according to plan. A couple resorts with 3-4-5 nights of availability consecutively in your point range.

A different alternative (I think it's an option for resale) given the number of points would be to put them in RCI (160 points is a decent chunk of points) and get a week somewhere down the road. Not an ideal use of the points, but if you are just going to lose them it's a good way to extend them for another 2 years.

I was in a similar situation, the resale contract I recently purchased had banked points from 2018 that would be lost by end of January. Thought about renting them but the price-per-point/availability this late in the game wasn't worth much so decided to try to put together a quick trip during New Years.
If you're diligent at stalking, you can likely piece together a trip. By using suggestions from others on these boards, I was able to book 3 nights OKW studio and 1 night in a OKW 1-bdrm at less than 60 days from NYE (still waitlisted & working on that 4th studio night). The rooms show up when least expected but just keep refreshing and know that it is a possibility.

Of course, general availability today is no indication that things will be there tomorrow which is why we don’t allow posts with specifics to be shared...your info was general enough to be allowed.

The idea of RCI is a good one if, when OP is in the system and can actually book, if there is no way to make a trip work, then at least there is a way to get some use in some way!

Sorry about that with regards to the availability.

I had no idea this was even an option. Thank you both so much for recommending. Fingers crossed I can put together a trip. We wouldn't mind changing resorts if necessary. Heck, it'll be our first trip, might actually be fun to try a few different places.

Just wanted to mention that someone over on the DVC/Miscellaneous board posted that some SSR preferred units were loaded in to the system and yesterday I was able to switch my Vero Beach reservation for the first week of December - all six of the nights I needed. I was so thrilled to get the reservation a little more than 3 weeks out. I checked again this morning and there are 5 days in a row available. So as the renovations are completed more inventory may appear. I hope you are able to put a trip together!

I would log in a few times a day. Search all resorts. Make sure you've got both of your waitlist actively searching. You'll piece together something.

Thank you so much for the update. Can’t wait to “close”, then get my points so I can start cobbling something together.

So, the re-sale contract that was sent to ROFR on the 18th has 160 points that will need to be used by January 31st. While our broker did a great job of managing our expectations that there is no guarantee we'll be able to use these points, I am really hoping for a "bonus" vacation in January before my new points are added in February.

Has anyone had any luck booking this last minute? Assuming everything goes to plan and the stars align, we'd be looking at a early December closing, with points being added to our account in late December / early January. We'll need to burn 160 points, are very flexible on days of the week (as long as wifi is available), and accommodation type. We'd love to stay at our new "home" at SSR, but anywhere would be fine.
I have booked or changed last minute successfully at many resorts. I haven’t at SSR
specifically, but it’s such a huge property that I would bet your chances are high. Also, when I have looked to change last minute, SSR is usually one of the only villas still available up to the very end. Good luck!

Oh & Geaux Tigers!!!

Thank you so much! I received my closing documents today, so here’s to hoping!

Oh, & Geaux Tigers!

Woohoo. If the seller is fast, you could be in the system to try and book by December!

Yeah, nothing of importance to add to this thread (other than Welcome Home and the SSR refurb rocks),
but I wanted to throw out a very big GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!

Just wanted to share an update. We received our "one time code" yesterday. I called this morning, told them I had 160 points to use by end of January. The lady on the phone was fantastic, put together a 5 night Animal Kingdom Savannah View / 1 night Boardwalk reservation for us (we had to borrow 12 points). We are so stinking excited that we were able to put together a "bonus" vacation 46 days away. Thank you everyone for the great advice!

I was in a similar boat when we got our first resale contract. We closed in late July/early august and points expired end of November. As you can imagine -- getting a room during F&W was pretty rough -- but we were able to piece together some rooms and ended up doing 3 hotels in 4 nights. Not for the faint of heart - but it was nice to be able to see three different resorts so soon. I have a good feeling you should have good luck.
