Beach Club Availability

Just seeing that other people also see the skyliner as a negative. I can tell you that people with kids under maybe age 7 or 8 may also have a real problem with it. 2 of our kids were (like until 2 years ago- nightmare) intolerable just on the bus. I can’t imagine them on a “paused” and “stuffy” skyliner. Serious emergency situation for any poor people who happen to be in the cabin with us. Like stitch on steroids.

One word: skyliner. For me this is not bigger and better. I’d much rather be able to walk to Epcot (and stay for less points).

I was reffering to the studio room only - it has 20% more square footage has 2 baths and 2 real beds. How can you say it is not bigger when the facts prove otherwise?

At the DVC presentation on board the Dream this weekend, they talked about the very nice bathrooms in the studios at Riviera. I may like to try it once, but BCV or BWV are my Epcot Homes and my resorts of choice!

Not expressing opinions between the resorts here, but RIV, BWV, and BCV all have sleeping surfaces for 5 in a studio (since their last rehab). All allow 5 in a 1 bedroom (if booked on points for BWV and BCV) but only RIV has sleeping surfaces for 5. The big differences on sleeping is RIV rooms are larger and the murphy bed instead of sofa bed (BWV and BCV have a long time until a full hard goods refurb to be upgraded) and the murphy bed is queen sized not a double..

Our first DVC stay after we became owners was at BCV. The first day, after walking around the resort, my DH came back and said he wanted to sell our just-bought BLT contract for BCV instead (because of SAB). But after a few days of walking through the lobby, dripping wet, and having to split up because our toddler and our new swimmer wanted to be in different parts of the pool, he stopped agitating for switching. And after a couple of trips where we watched fireworks from our standard BLT room, or went to TOTWL with the kids in PJs to watch fireworks, he appreciated BLT more too. Different strokes, as they say.

A look at it like a less dramatic comparison to apartments in college. You could live downtown and walk to things but have to share a bedroom and bathroom or you could go a 10 min ride away. If you went further for the same price you got bigger rooms. Because they’re a little further away, it makes sense that the rooms should be a bit bigger. It does not make sense that they also cost more. If they were equal cost it would be different, but for a higher cost, nah! I’ll stick with my home at BWV (and soon to be BLT for balance of course....)

Sigh. Just as Poly doesn't have two bathrooms, neither do these. If two people cannot poop at the same time, it's not two bathrooms.

Fair point thst people should’nt be using the word bathroom in the strictest sense.

But they do hsve two different spaces for bathing so it is possible to have someone using the area with the toilet and bathtub while someone else can shower at same time.

So, there is a difference in what you get.

I can understand that it's not going to appeal to a lot of people for a lot of valid reasons but how is it an overall negative to WDW? Even if you never ride it, Won't the fact that it will be taking thousands of people off of the buses, boats and roads actually improve your experience in the parks? Sounds like an overall positive to me...

I didn't say it was a negative as a whole, I just think its a negative when deciding on which option is better to get to Epcot/DHS. Do I stay at the BW or BC and be able to either walk or take a boat, or do I stay at Riviera and have the Skyway (and buses?). I think, for the majority of people - and we are talking about MOVING demand from BCV to RIV - the Skyway will be a negative over the walk or boat situation. To move demand, you need more people to prefer the Skyway, over the long term. You need more people to prefer the extra room for more points over the long term. You need people to think RIV is cooler than BCV and SAB. Are more BLT/CCR/BRV/GFV/SSR etc owners going to make RIV their first choice when wanting to stay in the Epcot area.

My favorite feature of Riviera is that I don't have to get off the skyliner on my way to caribbean beach. :moped:

I'll check it out, but only as a mini excursion while staying at BCV. I am interested to try Topolino's, though. I bet it'll have a nice view. (I want to try it ASAP since most Disney restaurants are best their first year or so until they move their "A-list" chefs elsewhere.)

That's why I only used the word "bath" not "bathroom", I guess no one noticed that distinction.

As Sandi noted it is a solid and useful upgrade to have 2 areas for bathing and using the sinks. But apparently some hate Riviera so much, they can not even acknowledge the many actual physical differences in the studios that most would consider significant upgrades.

As someone who is not as steady when standing in a bathtub as opposed to a shower stall, I do appreciate the studios that give you a shower stall. I’ve experienced the VGF and Poly, so I do look forward to staying in Riviera.

I have asked housekeeping for a bath chair when in the other studios, and only BLT gave me something I could actually use. What the other resorts give does not even fit in the bath tub!

I do wish every tub had a grab bar.

I think you are taking this personally. This thread is titled BCV availability. And RIV came up as a possibility that it will move demand from the BCV. I've been watching this for 20 years. A split bathroom and some extra space and a skyliner will not move demand away from a walk to Epcot and SAB. Especially not given the number of points you pay over BCV to get a split bath and a little extra space and a ride on the Skyliner (which you can take if you want anyway). Most owners are trying to get the most nights out of their points as possible.

That isn't a personal hit on RIV owners. And it isn't saying that RIV is a lousy resort. Its saying that the chances that its attractions are significant enough to overcome its point structure AND the lure of BCV and SAB are low - and not enough to actually pull enough demand for it to be noticable.

As I've said, I've been watching this for 20 years. I became a member shortly before BCV opened, and I've seen a lot of the talk on new resorts. Each new resort is going to be the best and pull demand away from the Epcot area. It was going to be impossible to stay at the Poly, with all the pent up demand. Treehouse Villas would be impossible to get unless you owned there. Everyone would want to stay out at VAKL and see the zebras from their balcony - and its a huge resort capable (perhaps) of moving demand. The only resorts where the hype has proven close to true and its nearly impossible to stay there unless you own are GFV and VGC - and that is in part because both of them are tiny - too tiny for their appeal to have any impact on availability on any other resort. When BCV opened, it would pull demand away from the difficult to get BWV - it did for a bit - now both are pretty difficult to get at seven months for studios. And at this point there are so many rooms in the system that no resort is likely to have an impact on availability anywhere else. We are playing a game of musical chairs - adding 300 chairs and 300 players to a game that already has 6500 players just isn't going to change things (approximate total potential rooms within DVC).

Now, I personally wouldn't stay over at Riviera. There isn't anything there that has appeal TO ME. Split bath - my husband saw me deliver a baby - he can watch me poop if nature calls when he's in the shower. More space -we are hardly in the room at WDW. We never stay in studios anyway, so we always have a split bath in our unit and we always have enough room. I own BWV, so I can book there at eleven months. And we only have a 150 point contract, I'm not spending my extra precious points just in case I want some bathroom privacy. I do stay other places - not often, but I have, but there has to be a draw that's better than a split bath and more space - giraffes out the window. SAB. Hilton Head. That doesn't mean RIV is a horrible resort, it just means I have bad taste.

I agree with @crisi - I don't think RIV will significantly reduce the 7-month demand for trading in to BWV & BCV, but it might help a little. We are looking forward to spending one night in a 1-bedroom at RIV (booked with CC reward points), just as we looked forward to and very much enjoyed our one week in a 1-bedroom at VGF (that cost us the same number of points as a 2-bedroom at BWV would have), but as far as trading in at 7 months goes, I think the significantly lower points charts at BWV/BCV will keep 7-month demand high at both. DVC owners seem to be frugal in spending their points!

OTOH, when it comes to buying, if we were much younger than we are, wanted a resort with easy access to two parks and could use the many extra years a RIV contract would provide (it will be a race to see whether we or our BWV contracts expire first), we'd probably strongly consider RIV.

Last year the week before Easter at BCV was booked solid even before the 7 month mark. Waitlist never came through. This year I thought we were in luck but literally days before I could book, the rooms were taken. We waitlisted and it just came through yesterday! Again for the week before Easter. So I’ve experienced both sides...
