I Got Both Cars in the Garage

My rule has always been, 2 car garage, 2 cars in the garage. Other than a brief time few weeks during our remodel, 36 years in our house, 2 cars in the garage. But we currently have 4 cars. We have 2 in the garage, 2 in the driveway, and we have room for 3 on the street in front of our property.

When we first moved into our house 11 years ago, we easily put both cars in the garage. We then bought bigger cars and it was tight, but we still put them in there. At some point though, we needed to store a few things in the garage and my van got relegated to the driveway - the amount of stuff needed to store in the garage just grew and now there is now way the van is going back in :-(

We have a two car garage, but we haven't fit a car in there in years. We definitely never had two in there.

My sister and I are buying a house now with a two car garage that we should actually be able to park in. There's also a small barn where we can store the lawnmower and gardening tools, which frees up garage space.

Living in a harsh winter climate, I’ve never understood people here who have garages but don’t park in them. I can’t think of anything important enough to own (and store) that would cause me to willingly park outside. We lived briefly in a home that only had a single garage and that meant whoever was leaving first had to park outside on the driveway. 5 days out of 7 that was me. :sad1: Hard times.

Well, the snowblower for one. ;) That alone is big enough to only be able to fit one car in the two car garage.

DH and I agree that when cars no longer fit in the garage, it is time to get rid of crap. Luckily, we won't ever have that problem, because neither of us would allow it to get that bad.

We couldn’t fit cars in the garage for awhile while I figured out how to give away some of mom’s furniture when we downsized her to a smaller assisted living unit last December. I was trying to give a lot of it away to someone who needed it. All finally accomplished a month or so ago. My husband got rid of some of the shelving units that lined the garage and cleared out unused items. It’s really nice to be able to park in the garage again. No snow or ice here but a car parked outside often ends up with a lot of condensation on every glass surface that hinders visibility.

This reminded me when both kids lived at home and there were 4 cars: 2 in the garage and 2 in the driveway. We'd call "musical cars" and everyone got their keys and we relocated by who had to leave first in the morning. Thanks for making me remember this.

My parents just downsized and my father is insistent that both cars will wind up in the garage soon. I'd place bets that will NEVER happen.

One year my in-laws parked their 20+ foot boat diagonally in their garage to save on storage costs lol.

In fairness they always had a truck that would never fit in the garage anyways, the antique car did mostly sit in the 3rd car bay with exception to the year they had the boat in there where they stored the antique car in a property they owned not too far away (was my husband's grandmother's home), and the other vehicle was an old sedan that would be in the garage when the boat wasn't in there.

My mom is hoping that my sister and I will take enough crap from the basement and garage when we move that they can fit a car in the garage again. 😄 Most of the stuff isn't ours, but we're happy to take some free furniture!

My husband and I last year were epoxying our garage floor and painting the walls. Because of the crazy hot weather last year we started in May but couldn't complete the whole project until October/November so our cars were parked in the driveway that whole time. It did suck because of the heat we were having--def. made me miss having my car in the garage so I was glad when it was all over.

DH could park in the garage, there's plenty of space, but he rarely does. Too much of a hassle for him, I suppose, even with an automatic garage door opener.

Oh that room is for cars? I thought it was a paint shop/wood shop/storage bin.
lol most people in my neighborhood use the 3rd car bay for that stuff...but I have seen people use their entire garages basically.

One up the street uses the 2-car portion for a 'man cave' having 4 recliners and a big screen tv (the garage is still unfinished though).

Did someone say "third car bay?" Uh oh. Now you've done it.
