I took advantage of the Hilton points bonus. Bought 100k{500 dollars} to top off the 50k I have. It was enough to book a 5 star Hilton in Old Town Prague. The cash cost would have been 1k for the three nights. This hotel has an executive lounge which is a nice perk with my Aspire. When I get my Hilton Biz I'll use the SUB for my other plans. I worked out the math and I came ahead doing this. I also decided I didn't want to get a Marriott Card just for Prague. There are better Chase cards I can get and I prefer Hyatt and Hilton over Marriott.
There are no Hyatts in Prague in case your wondering.

DD, DM and I were there in June/July this year and it was very nice. The Executive Lounge had a good breakfast although the evening snacks weren't really to our taste, many seemed to enjoy them as well. It is in a GREAT location (the Prague Marriott is across the street for any Bonvoy fans remaining out there)-in Old Town, a block from a mall, and easy walk to lots of locations (although we took the tram to the Castle), including the Jewish Quarter and its amazing shopping for anyone who enjoys high end luxury items. This is one hotel to which I would definitely return, although there are also several boutique hotels in Prague I'd like to explore as well. Someday...

I am about to look into getting an MR card - I have none! Do all of them allow transfers to travel partners or is it limited to the premium cards? Also, I think I was reading that some transfers have a fee to transfer. Is there already a primer on Reddit (or someone on the web) about this (AMEX/Travel partners/Tranfers) someone can point me to? Thanks.

:woohoo::cheer2::woohoo:Oh, happy day! We are coming home from Australia next September! I checked this morning as usual (so glad I can stop doing that lol) and Tuesday 9/22 business savers to Houston were available :scared1: 160,000 UR transferred to United and $160ish woohooo

DH and I are proud new owners of Biz Green while the AF is waived the 1st year. Using it to kill time until I apply for a CIP in Dec and the SW Biz for DH to complete his CP.

i need to contact DS’s school to see when the calendar for next year will be available. I found United Biz saver class seats home from SYD but they on 8/26 and I think that will be their first official day of school and they will have unofficial days before that if they mirror this year’s calendar.
I hope you can take those 8/26 seats!
Hope your treatments are going well!

Balsam Hill has awesome trees! They were way over my budget when I replacing ourselves and opted to get a new one after Christmas for a steal from Home Depot.
We bought a Balsam Hill tree two years ago. I love it so much

Maybe something like this:

10/04 ($-80.00) balance on your card - did you have a refund, or make an overpayment?
10/25 statement closed with a credit balance: ($-80.00) This payment due date is 11/22 but you don't owe since it seems you have a credit.
11/01 $99 AF posted. Now your balance is sitting at $19.00 since $99-$80 = $19 Now you owe $19, however this is not on the previous statement, therefore not due 11/22
11/22 $19 balance due No payment due since statement closed with a credit to the acct.
11/25 statement will close with you owing the $19 remaining for AF, this being due 12/22 Your annual points should post shortly after this. You do not have to pay this, just leave it there.
12/01 Cancel before this date as I believe Chase is 30 days from AF posting in order to get a refund. You have a short window from statement close (which triggers your points) to your 30 days from AF posting.

Card should be closed, within a few days you should see a credit of $80 ($-80 is how it should look in your acct) because you paid $80 with your previous credit, you have $19 due, $99 AF was credited which covers that $19 due leaving you with $80 they owe you. You can ask them to move that credit to a different card or send you a check.

Your acct should show you the amount due from the previously closed statement. As long as you pay that by your due date, 11/22 in this case, you are fine as far as interest goes.

I agree. I had a $150 balance on a card, charged a DLR ticket, $300 TC applied. Then I used URs for a statement credit for the rest of the ticket cost. I now have a $150 balance left (the original statement balance) but 0 remaining balance because the TC and/or UR statement credit effectively paid my statement balance.

Amex Everyday is an MR card....it is not a premium card. It does allow transfer to travel partners and yes there is fee to transfer (I have only transferred to jetblue and delta so far). I remember the fee being nominal and I think I used MR points for fees.

I don't know of a primer per se but...

All MR earning cards can transfer to Amex's travel partners.

The airlines that have a fee to transfer are the domestic ones which include Delta and JetBlue (as mentioned above). You can pay OOP in cash the $0.0006/mile or use MRs to pay as well. There is also a limit of $99 that will be charged so any miles above the 165,000 will not be charged (so if you were to transfer 170,000 miles to Delta the charge would remain $99, for example).

If you have AUs (like your spouse, child, etc) on your MR earning card(s) then you can transfer your MRs directly to their travel accounts as well-handy trick I've had to utilize a time or two.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask!

If you don’t have any MR cards you first want to try to pull the personal Platinum for the 100k offer. That is where you check and see if pre-approved on your account or if you can pull it up incognito. If you can’t or don’t want a personal card then the business cards vary on what they offer.

Transfers to domestic airlines have the tax. You can also transfer to partners such as Marriott. Sometimes there are bonuses to transfer.

Just be aware that it is Amex and all the usual rules apply. It is especially easy for them to claw back or freeze MR points (and they will).

Thanks for the review. I'm making this trip with my 16-year-old son. I'm always happy when I can find a hotel in Europe that guarantees two beds.

Oh, I need to know more about this. Sometimes I feel like our trips abroad are really DH's taste testing and comparing ice creams of the world. :rotfl: In all seriousness, I would like to know more since I think DH would appreciate it if I added this into our tour. He loves the high fat Scandinavian ice creams he has tried over the years. My all time fave was the blood orange sorbet at Bertillon in Paris.

Orkney ice cream is super creamy and tastes awesome! You can find some of the flavors fairly easily throughout Scotland. I did find there to be more variety consistently available in Orkney.

Why are people so clueless?? Why? They look like newbs.
It wasn’t even just us. They stood there for the people before us and when we left they still didn’t move. The cm had us move to try and be in front of them but it obviously didn’t work. I almost asked them to move but I didn’t. I should have. We got pictures on Main Street too that didn’t turn out great because people stood there next to us/behind us staring at the camera. This is why we like after hours events

I hate people like that. Also, we had some super weird guy trying to hold his baby in our pictures in front of the castle one night... We were all standing there ready to take the pictures and the photographer says "hold on for a second" and is just standing there holding the camera. I turned around and there's a guy behind me just holding his baby up over our heads. I don't know if he thought he was funny or what. I yelled at him to get out of our picture and he looked pretty mad and stormed away.
I’m glad you said something. Who the heck does that? I just wanted some nice Christmas pictures because this was our first time going to wdw during the holidays

Congrats! It's such a nice feeling to have that done...and saver business flights...way to go!
Thank you! This Australia trip was the original reason I got into the cc game :)
Congrats. Just curious how many UA points is a saver award to Australia.?
80K miles per person for business, one way ... but now that United has dynamic pricing, the 80K flights are few and far between, one or two days per week for the time frame I've been watching.

Economy savers are 40K pp one way. We flew economy nonstop JFK-Beijing several years ago but can't deal with that long of a flight in economy again. My dh's legs just won't fit.

We are flying Air Canada to Australia. Because it's a partner airline, the business savers are 90K pp one way. But I grabbed J seats EWR to Vancouver and J seats Vancouver to Sydney, which were better options than what United had available at the time.

So these flights cost 340K UR transferred to United for the two of us.

Is there a specific place you'd recommend in Kirkwall or that area? We have a full day planned but I think we could squeeze in a quick ice cream stop.

Does this work with employee cards? I have a very reluctant P2, but she is an employee on my Biz Gold. If I can get her to apply for a personal Plat, would she be able to transfer those points to me somehow?

Hi all! I have been reading and absorbing as much info as I can on this forum for a few weeks and have learned a lot! This has been so helpful! Also realized a couple of mistakes I made just before I found you all - live and learn! My head is spinning with all of this and I'm still unsure of how to move forward from what I've done so far. So, a little about me:

I've been fairly successful in the past using Amex BCP, maxing out the $6k/year grocery 6% cash back and getting a $450-$600 cash reward each year through Citi Costco & Exec membership rebate. This year I decided to try Chase United Mileage Explorer, got the $250 SUB and miles for one free ticket for our February Disney trip; didn't occur to me to have DW apply separately so missed that boat. She has been removed as AU on mine and I plan to have her apply for a card of her own later. We each also just got the Chase Disney Preferred with the $200 SUB (minus $49 AF), but don't have much use for those other than possibly financing the balance of our trip at 0% for 6 mo.

I have delved into the cash back rebate sites and Raise.com. Managed to score a $500 DGC for $470 during last weekend's sale with my extra $10 off.

At this point, I'm not sure how much more I can do to save $$ on our Feb trip; the Costco and Amex cash back will pay for some of it (we'll bank the Costco $$ and use the Amex on the trip for dining & earn the 3% then apply the past few month's accumulated rewards as a statement credit when we return). I'm thinking we'll use the available $150 credit on each Chase Disney for DGC for souvenirs, etc. Then I have to weigh financing the balance vs purchasing the DGC from BJs at the 6% BF deal and pulling the $$ from savings.... so much to think about :-O

We are not huge travelers, but would like to do some more, but also need to be more cautious with the budget now. In 2020, my first priority will be saving $$, then maybe banking some cash/points/miles for a 2021 trip (Disney Alaskan Cruise??).

Here's our stats:
Me:
02/19 Catherine's - Comenity Bank
08/19 Chase United MPE
10/19 Chase Disney Premier

P2:
08/19 AU on Chase United - removed 11/19
10/19 Chase Disney Premier

-MONTHLY SPEND:
Gas $60
Groc $900
Cell $80
Internet/landline $100
Dining/Ent $300
Pet food/supplies $250
Other $2300

-CC's are paid off every month
-DEN airport
-No preference, but have started with United
-SW does service DEN, but not our fav
-No Hotel rewards pref
-No travel points
-M + DW

Thanks for any input!!

Had some great earning/spending opportunities yesterday
Staples $100 Disney GC w/Amex offer $25 off $100
Staples $200 VGC on CIC for 1000 URs
BB&B $25 Disney GC w/Amex offer $5 off 25, plus Rakuten for another $.50 off
Albertsons/Jewel $100 MCGC $10 off, so $96 and 20X TY points

Also DS needed dress clothes (he lives in T-shirts and sports pants) for 5th grade musical and party at the Chinese Consulate. Went to JC Penney’s and found him stuff, plus a blouse for me, paid $105. Realized I had a $10 off 75 online dept store offer on Amex. Came home, ordered same items online. Even paying 8.95 shipping total came to $95 and should qualify for the $10 off Amex so saved $20. Also went thru Rakuten for another $2.42 off. Just have to return the stuff I bought in store.

That is a great question that I sadly cannot definitively answer. I would think if you were her AU then she could transfer but I don't think (but again, don't know 100%) that it goes the other way.

DId you obtain any credit cards in 2018? That would potentially change any recommendations we would make since Chase has the 5/24 rule.
