Idk. This is how high demand services go. Everyone tries to get in/on at once, capacity peaks and then is exceeded, and the system goes down. Purchasing coveted sports or concert tickets goes the same way. I’m not surprised at all and I don’t think this is unique to Disney or it’s IT department. It will get better over the next couple days as demand spreads out through the day and as technological gremlins are worked out.
Yeah, I'm not faulting them specifically for Disney+, but all of their web products are abysmal. My Disney experience is constantly crashing and down. Disney Junior app is the same. They are just known at this point for having terrible internet tech. This really shouldn't be the case for a company of their size.

Good luck with that one.

I have my copy safely dwelling on my Plex server but I never expect to see it anywhere else. Pretty sure I had (some of) the only kids at WDW who knew where Brer Rabbit, Fox and Bear were from while riding Splash Mountain this year.
I am surprised they went with the full version of dumbo. I’m glad they did though. I wonder if this and a couple other things with the warning on Disney+ are testing to see how much they can do.

The D+ platform I believe is based on Hulu which has been doing it for years. I think they should be well in hand with that. Now their other websites...yeah, those need some work.

I'm surprised too since we read all those articles a few months ago that claimed they were removing it. I was agitated since I don't believe in censoring historical things, including entertainment, and secondly because the scene is kind of important for the movie, I couldn't figure out how they were going to edit it to make any sense with the whole magic feather scene missing. The crows are important to the story! So I'm glad they went this way. I hope they leave it that way. I think a warning on the Details is plenty sufficient.

I had heard they would not be releasing the unedited Dumbo - maybe it was backlash? I had bought the Blu-ray just in case - not that I care about such things that much, but Dumbo is a pretty short movie as it is.

I mean, it may be that for 364 days this year, they don’t need to meet the demand of a billion people streaming Mandalorean at 5:00 AM, so they didn’t build the system that way. It’s just this one day where there will be extraordinarily high demand when everything is new and everyone tries to get on at the exact same moment. It wouldn’t make fiscal sense to overbuild a system to meet a level of demand that will immediately taper offend then level.

no but they could have released the app early so people got get all their log in credentials squared away and just make sure the system was working on their set up, etc. - or phased it in - let those who signed up early get in a day early, etc.

My point was why do they see this (even if just moementary) as "unexpected demand" - of course there is high demand for it! you could have taken steps to reduce the launch day surge

Maybe they came to their senses in that it would hinder the story if they took that scene out.

How old is your Samsung TV? Ours is from 2015, and I couldn't find the app on there. I did read that the app may only be available on Samsung Smart TV's manufactured from 2016 to present. Thankfully, the 2 TV's we use most often have Roku and Amazon Fire Stick, so we are good to go.
Good to know! That could be why I don't see the app on my Samsung TV - we bought it in 2013. I really don't want to buy Roku or a Fire stick, but I would like to view on something other than my Fire tablet.

Got it half working on my phone and laptop. Was able to download the app on my PS4, but it would not open.

Does anyone know if the Clone Wars traditionally animated series from 2003 will be available on D+? I saw the 2008 CGI version, but not the old one.

Must be. I totally understand with certain things and am not one to get all indignant about it, but for Dumbo the story is thin as it is and removing that scene would basically make the narrative incomplete. I just didn't see how it could be done. I do applaud the warning - do they have the smoking warnings too?

I have not heard about the older Clone Wars show being on there - it would be nice though. They don't consider it canon anymore, but there are a few surprising deep cuts animation wise on there already so you never know.

There are at least two other things on Disney+ with a warning as far as I know. One including Walt and a smoking warning.

Cloud services can easily handle the kind of scaling you describe. I don't understand how they couldn't see this coming.

It doesn’t appear to show up on older Apple TVs.

Watching Imagineering but most menus just say Retry.

It looks like the old Mickey Mouse cartoons have the "outdated cultural depictions" advisory as well. I have seen it on Steamboat Willie and a couple others.

I supposed so. I guess I’m a cynic, but I don’t think headlines about crashing apps and high demand are a bad thing for Disney. It conveys a sense of excitement, interest, and popularity—that Disney created such a good product, everyone wants it NOW. If this continues much beyond 72-96 hours, they’ll have a problem. But right now, this is good news for the C suite.

I predict that they will still get backlash on some of the "outdated cultural depictions" from the great offended society and will eventually just cave and censor.

I don't disagree with that - pushing that demand is super high is good marketing

just commenting more on how they phased the statement that it was "unexpected"

Does anyone know why the first 2 seasons of The Simpsons are missing? Perhaps this came up in the past.
