Question:

Has anyone seen any DPs on young adults applying for the new Green card? DH is wondering if this would be a good card for DD to apply for since she doesn't have any AMEX cards of her own.
It used to be easy, but I'm going off 20 yr old data :) It was, and still seems to be, like a gateway card for Amex. Once they let you in they wanted you to upgrade to the higher AFs. My understanding is just a Good credit score is needed still, unless they decided to tighten up on the refresh in the last few weeks. Even if they did your DD has other cards so I assume a better than Good score and good payment history so should pass still, I'd think.

My DDs friend applied for the Amex Platinum at 20 yrs old and got it no problem. She is at West Point, so she gets her fees waived from being active duty. I had assumed she went through some military channels to get, but now I’m not sure because she just applied for the CSR after having the Amex a year and was denied that. I know that one she just applied from the Chase site so maybe for Amex too.

I don’t understand, but I’ll leave it at that.

Allow me to elaborate with examples. Many years ago there was a method of manufactured spending referred to as "the mint." Churners would purchase $1 presidential coins with their credit card, get free shipping and then deposit he coins in their banks and pay their credit cards. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. As this method gained popularity due to being shared publicly it eventually was shut down. Other examples would be banks changing things due to being shared publicly and increasing in popularity like Chase adding the 5/24 rule, Amex having lifetime language, Citi adding 24 month and 48 month language, Chase adding 48 month language, Barclay adding an unwritten 6 card/inquiry rule, BoA adding 24 month restrictions, Serve and Bluebird shutdowns, the death of Target Red Bird, the death of Amazon payments and I could go on but I am assuming I am making the point clear for all. When beneficial loopholes, strategies and methods are shared too often and publicly they will eventually be shut down and then this is why we can't have nice things. I would hope that if I missed a consensus of keeping something on the down low and just sharing in Dischruners someone would make me aware so I can edit my post. I'd rather not become one of the last straws that breaks my own camel's back. I would not view the advice to edit as being anything other than helpful to myself and this community.

It's no different than using support links from this community. We help each other out, give advice and give back in whatever way we can so we can continue the success of this hobby for everyone here. For example, I may not chime in on certain credit card advice like I used to a couple of years ago, but I always chime in on international flights and partner awards when I see a question or get tagged. That is one of my contributions to the community. If PlanePrincess doesn't have a support link for something I am going to go for, I always check the community support links and vice versa. If I am offering advice to someone outside this community and I don't have a support link for what I think they should do, I will send that person a support link from the community. Sharing advanced strategies publicly hurts this community and everyone in the hobby because it will contribute to a shut down all the more quickly. Much like sharing and learning from in this community and then going and using a support link from TPG, OMAAT, VFTW or any other sources other than this community is a slap in the face to everyone who takes the time to share and help others reach their travel goals. I hope this helps explain the importance of why certain posts may need to be redacted and why using support links from one another are good things. :flower3:

For those wanting Disney+ for free for being Verizon Unlimited or Fios subscribers, go to Verizon's website, log in to your account and select get Disney+. Accept terms and conditions. You'll be billed $6.99 a month starting in 1 year. You can cancel through your Verizon account.

Folks with Amazon Firesticks will need to go to Amazon and "buy" the free app. It will then appear on your stick.

The chatter seems to be that the Green card may be easier to get approved for than many of Amex's other cards. Amex generally is pretty approval friendly, but as you know that comes with the expectation the cardmember will spend on their cards or eventually get hit with a pop up. Folks who had been getting the pop up on other cards were able to get approved for the Green card with no pop up. I'll also add that Amex seems to be targeting the refreshed Green card towards a younger market. Lili Reinhart, who plays Betty on The CW's Riverdale, is the face of the new Amex Green campaign.

Consider whether you want to pull the 45k MR offer in incognito, or do a supportal from a Plat for 35k MR to DD and 15k MR to you or DH. (I don't think you have a BGR or Biz Gold, which has supportals worth 25k right now.) The 45k incognito offer comes with a $100 Away luggage credit, whereas the 35k supportal offer comes with a slightly higher $150 Away luggage credit. Both incognito and supportal offers have a $2k MSR, and every other benefit is the same. The supportal approach will split the MRs from this approval between 2 accounts, and DD will get a lesser 35k SUB but she'll get $50 more to use at Away, and the other 15k+ will be going to one of you guys. If you go the support way, I'd probably support from whomever hasn't received too many support bonuses this year to stay under the $600 1099 reporting threshold (Amex may still send a 1099 for <$600 in supportals).

A couple of questions for you guys....
1) I just signed up for Verizon today and it looks like I will be getting Disney+ for free for a year but I already bought the 3 years for $149 deal. Will that extend my subscription?
2) Re Amex Offers... I thought I had added the Verizon offer on my credit card but when I looked today, it was gone! Do I have any recourse or am I just out of luck?

1) "[T]hose who got in early on Disney Plus will still be eligible for the Verizon promotion, if they’re on a qualifying service. According to Verizon, customers who have already preordered Disney Plus will have their existing subscription “paused” for the 12-month period. The subscriptions they already paid for will then resume through Disney." https://variety.com/2019/digital/ne...free-unlimited-wireless-customers-1203379631/

2) If you have an Amex Offer added, it will appear in a separate added tab. If it's not there and you're not seeing it in your available offers, it may be that the offer is no longer available because it's fully enrolled. All Amex Offers are subject to enrollment limits. The Verizon offer was very popular ($100 savings on something many people will spend on anyway), so it may have filled up. Other popular offers include Best Buy, Staples, Lowe's, Sam’s Club, and hotel offers. It's always a good idea to add popular Amex Offers ASAP or you risk them filling up and getting pulled.

I also wonder if you have too many available Amex Offers? The app can display only 50 available Amex Offers, and the website can display only up to 100 offers. Any more, and the clutter may be hiding some offers. You can pare down the number of Amex Offers displayed by simply adding an offer to your cards whether you intend to use them or not. I tend to add offers I don't plan to use onto my less used Amex cards.

I have credit freezes on all 3 credit bureaus. I went online and lifted the freeze on them a week or so before applying just to be sure they were not frozen. Then I froze then again after I knew I was approved. It does take a bit of time and effort to do this and was one of the reasons I didn’t even want to open new cards. But once I started following this thread I realized it was worth the effort. But I didn’t realize that credit freezes put more eyes on my account. I thought it was just me taking care of that and the banks wouldn’t even know as long as the freeze wasn’t there when I applied. Am I missing something with this?

I think what you're doing is fine.

Did you delete all your posts? I"m not sure why some were being so hard on you. Congrats on getting approved. I'll be under 5/24 in Feb. It will be kind of funny if I get denied after waiting all these months.

Good luck. And thank you. I guess I deserve some flack since admittedly I don't keep up with this thread on a regular basis and just come in when I am ready to do something new. I understand the frustration. I have received a LOT of help from this thread and it doesn't go unappreciated. I think I need to do more reading and less typing :)

I just looked up RCL and they don't have any Europe cruises up yet for 2021 so I looked at next summer as a reference. I only saw one cruise to Norway and it's 7 nights which should work fine for us. I didn't see any for the British Isles or Iceland so I think it would have to be just Norway if we did RCL.

I think we would do the traditional dining. I wouldn't want to go wait in line for eating. I'd rather have a set time. If my parents go with I feel like we wouldn't be sat with anyone else. I wouldn't mind either way. My general plan for ports with a baby is to just explore where we get off. I don't want to deal too much with trying to go far and doing crazy excursions.
when we did our HAL cruise, we did anytime dining, and never waited more than 5 minutes or so,of course we were there when the dining room opened and put in our names. It was always just us and a few other parties at that time. Our main goal was to eat a lavish early dinner so we could hit the buffet for 'dessert' before bed later on lol...(I've never eaten so much!)

I do the same thing...I think eyes on account is if you happen to pull a blonde moment as I have done and forgotten to lift the freeze and then that's more attention to the account. That's my interpretation anyway. So you're doing it correctly if the freeze is lifted before the application.

Or hey, type! Check in more regularly. Let us know what you're up to, what you want to do, or plan to do! It really helps us help you better and it'll keep at least a part of your mind engaged in this hobby.
