Recent SSR stay

We are staying in SSR in December (over New Years). Never been there before. We have a 2 bedroom suite, so I am hoping there is a washer/dryer in our suite as expected. While I'd love a newer refurbished room, and am also hoping to get a room with that nice jacuzzi tub, so...we'll see.

I'm sorry to hear you were disappointed in the resort overall. I hope you had a wonderful time at the parks though and that overall your vacation was magical :yay:
I've only stayed in the 2 bdrm villas at SSR and have always had laundry in room.

As for OP I'm sorry your stayed was so crappy. To be fair, SSR is currently going through a major refurb and you obviously got an older room. One could argue that it shouldn't never should have gotten to that state, but never the less, it did and now they are fixing it. I think the major complaint to SSR is how vast it is. I personally don't mind the walks. We love staying at the Paddock and go to the Paddock pool frequently where you can get food and drinks there as well. From that pool its just a short 5 - 10min walk to the main house. But to each their own.

I have sensitivities to artificial scents and need hypoallergenic detergents. Are DVC detergents hypoallergenic?

They let the rooms deteriorate too far, some worse than others.

The refurb though is fantastic and the new rooms are very much ‘deluxe’.

Some won’t like SSR for its extensive grounds, and walking, others love it for that reason.

We go to SS when we want to go less expensively. Not quite as nice as the other DVC Resorts. Usually do a 1BR or larger to get all the amenities like laundry.

Just for clarification. DVC has villas, not suites. Suites usually come with access to a concierge lounge. DVC villas do not unless you are in one of the five two bedroom lockoff villas on the 6th floor of Jambo House (specifically noted as Concierge Villas).
Oops! Sorry for the mix-up. I am not a DVC member, but friends we are going with are. I am looking forward to seeing all the SSR has to offer!!

They have a new plant based laundry and dish detergent, ECOS. I thought the bottle said hypoallergenic.

We didn't care for SSR either. It's too big for us. We prefer smaller resorts (BLT, CCV/BR, Poly, VGF, etc.).
Its way to big if we come back with our young kids. Trying to walk them across the street or 3-4 buildings down for a pool isn't realistic... or having to catch a bus to go get breakfast wouldn't be great.

I am sorry to hear about the issues. Just one comment about airline check in. No matter what resort you were at, you would have to take your luggage with you to the airport. First, it doesn’t open until 5 am and in order to ensure your luggage makes your flight, you have to be flying out at leas t 3 hours or more from when you check in with them, So the earliest your flight can be, on the safe side, would be 8:30 am.

So this aspect of your trip was not a result of being at SSR. I have not found any of the laundry options for studios convenient, other than when I got lucky and stayed in The Grandstand section of SSR and we were in the building right near the pool. Luck of the draw I guess.

Unfortunately, SSR is a big resort and some things have to be planned for.
Grandstand is the best. It is close to all things at SSR

Well, don't stay at the GF or Polynesian in the future. Those buildings are a long way from some of the pools and the counter service.

Or Boardwalk where you have to cross the lake to BC for a more traditional QS.

Really, QS is a big adjustment with many DVC locations. (It was our biggest adjustment in upgrading from values to DVC).
We now plan to eat less QS at the resort, and eat more QS in a park. Plus we mitigate the issue by bringing food for more in-room snacks.

I feel your pain. Our first , last, and only SSR stay was in the Carousel section. It was awful. No Disney amenities and a crazy hike (and I love to walk) to everywhere. May as well just rent an AirBNB off property rather than stay there. That said, I really enjoy OKW for some reason even though the layout is somewhat similar.

SSR has buses to get on to make this easy just like OKW. Just get on any, because the last stop is at the Springs section right next to everything. The Carousel section is the most secluded part of SSR, and seems to be an afterthought but it’s not to far from the Paddock pool. The hallways at Kidani never end they are around 1000 feet long to get to the center. Everything at Disney is a long walk. We stayed at POR and it was a good walk to get to the amenities. PVB also has a long walk to everything. VGF has a long walk to the main building and bus stop. The QS at VGF about a 1000 foot hike as well.

I believe Kidani is >1/4 mile 1400’ from the farthest room to the center (I’ve heard 1/3 mile mentioned)

???? The GF pool is right outside of the vacation club building. As is the quick service at the Pool. The only pain there is the walk to the quick service in the morning for breakfast but at least it’s through the resort and not down the road.

I havnt stayed at Poly but really enjoyed the convenience of Bay Lake as well if I’m doing a trip that is focusing more on the resort.

Love love love the GS at SSR. Perfect location for everything, including the Westside walk to DS. We really like the ease of parking at SSR, vs. BWV or AKL-Jamba. So looking forward to the renovations, and in the meantime SSR is a great low point alternative.
