Did anybody here receive a recent DISboards Email or Newsletter which mentioned our thread? I'd be very interested in seeing what was said if anybody has it. You can just copy and paste it here in the main thread even!

Thanks!

It's often on the list of threads to check out at the bottom of their daily dis email. Guessing traffic to it has something to do with it. I posted about it the first time I saw it months ago when they started the emails.

I'm so lost on this thread. I feel discombobulated and detached from everything, period right now. Just slammed at work and life. Trying to claw my way to a promotion, come hell or high water. Had to have some hard conversations at work yesterday too. I wouldn't call them ultimatums, but others might.

I just booked my flight down to MCO for food and wine in September. Will trigger my $50 credit on my Delta Biz Amex. Used 26,000 skypesos for the 2 one-way seats. Nonstop seats. Good flight, expensive, don't care. LOL.

Will book the return when the flights come open in a couple days.

Quick, question for the USO people, @amalone1013 , @Alexle2007 and anyone else. Friend is going to USO for 2 days next week. Friday after breakfast at Chef Mickey’s, then Saturday. He wants to know best way to get on Hagrid’s. He will be staying onsite. Any tips?

I think they just need to be flexible and watch the weather for afternoon rain. They also need to look and see if the sign is posted out front about early closing. There also is a thread in the Universal section. Here is what I posted after our last trip in early Oct.

They have been closing the ride about 3 pm most days lately. We arrived around 5, so we didn't get to ride it the first day. The second day (Saturday) we arrived at the turnstiles about 8:20. Happened to be in a slow moving turnstile line, but still was off the ride by 9:40. Came back about 2 pm to get in line. Waited in line for about 3 1/2 hours and was right at the last room, but it had rained and they kept saying that they were working on getting the ride back up. It was hard to leave the line knowing how close we were, but the lady in front of us waited 4 hours and finally gave it up. Not sure if they ever got the ride going again.

It is an amazing ride!!!

Geez guys... I go away for 3 days and the place is burning down!!! Amex is shutting people down and clawing back credits... lots of other craziness on the thread.... Don't worry, I'm back now, lol!

 I hope things get back to normal for you soon! Good luck with getting the promotion!

I’m learning so everyone please bear with my dumb questions.
Im leaning toward the the SW Biz Premier so I can try for the companion pass. I’m looking at the application. I’m assuming sole proprietor. But it’s also asking for a Tax ID. Do you all with side hustles apply for a tax id? When you file taxes do you have to do anything?
I have a tax For my all night prom account, but I really don’t feel comfortable using that tax Id.
Sorry for all of the questions.
I looked at r/churning on Reddit to try to get some info as well. But dang, those people are not nice.

I think your questioned was answered already but wanted to say :welcome: to the thread. You came to the right place. We don't consider anyone's questions dumb. Everyone here all had to start somewhere and learn. Sole proprietor is correct and your tax id is your ss#, business name is your first and last name only.

I've been eyeing the Hyatt card since they are a great transfer partner they have had 60k sign up bonus I believe it's now 50k.
But I believe this will be my next card as most high-end hotels are capped at 30k a recent trip coming up with bonoys new point system a lot of the hotels I frequent have gone up 2x in points. If it wasn't for the free night I would have probably closed the bonvoy card I have had for years since it was Starwood. I do get gold status from my Plantium card, also so it makes it a little less hard to drop.

Also I love this thread more then some of the Disney threads I would have never noticed this without seeing it in the Disney email, I also think its great that there are people outside of Reddit who are into this as much as I am :)

:welcome: to the thread. Be forewarned, we aren't like Reddit at all. Everyone here is nice. The regulars are patient with the newbies and we do a lot of hand holding here. We also don't judge how anyone churns or redeems. The polite and fun atmosphere does make it one of the nicest threads on the DIS!

I'm with you on eyeing the Hyatt card. I'm purposely going to go under 5/24 for the first time since 2012 to get it. I'm loving all my hotel cards. The FN certs always come in handy and in 2 player mode are perfect for weekend getaways for the cost of an AF. After the peak pricing went into effect with BonBlah I thought I'd find myself contemplating getting rid of 3 cards but am still finding good use for weekend trips so far. I do miss the pre SPG merger days. That was my go to card for non cat spending. Now it's my BBP.

@SouthFayetteFan's Brief Universal Trip:
We had a nice trip - our flight into Orlando landed at noon on Saturday. Our flight home landed back in Pittsburgh at 9:30 this morning. So we did not even spend 72 full hours on the ground in Florida. Despite that it was a great trip - to my any trip where I focus and spend time with my girls is a great trip!

As you may recall - we stayed in a Future Rock Star Suite at the Hard Rock Hotel. The room featured a King bed, a couch & 2 chair seating area, separate tub/toilet/sink and shower/sink bathroom areas, and a separate bedroom for the kids with 2 twin beds sprawled across 800 square feet. It was pretty amazing! My younger daughter (whose career goal at 6 yrs old currently is pop star) was so excited when she saw it!! My parents, sister and brother in law were in a separate room a few doors down in a 2 queen room. They came down to visit one night and watch the football game.

At $735 a night, this room was NOT cheap. It would be hard to recommend paying that price for this but if you want space it was very nice. We did not experience any dining options (other than coffee for some of the folks in our travel party) at the hotel. We made a quick run to the food mart at the Shell Station for cereal and milk and POP TARTS to expedite our park departure each morning.

My (scattered) thoughts about Universal:
  • I should preface this by saying, I'm not a huge fan of Universal...I enjoy it, but it's NOT Disney to me
  • My general thought on Universal has always been that when I get home from a Uni trip I never say "I wish I could go back there NOW!" When I go to Disney, I could literally get on a plane back to Orlando when we get home...I don't feel that way with Universal.
  • This trip did not change that for me... (I'm not surprised)
  • This was my first trip where I had seen the Harry Potter movies (I never read the books) so that helped tremendously in my understanding of the Gringotts and Forbidden Journey rides.
  • Harry Potter again did not disappoint... LOVE the theming, Hagrid's was awesome (more on that in a moment), got to ride Hogwart's Express (both ways) after not getting a P2P ticket on our last visit and truthfully all the rides and shops there are amazing. Jurassic Park area has always had great theming to me but was behind a lot of construction walls this time (which I knew going in). Aside from that, I'm not crazy about the theming anywhere else in the park. It just feels shoddy to me...
  • Hulk is an ok coaster but I'm not a fan of banging my ears anymore and Rip Ride Rockit is not a very enjoyable experience after the first loop. Again too much jostling and banging.
  • I don't find much of the screen based stuff to be re-ride-able, it's all "1 and done" for me and some of it (namely Simpsons) have the potential to ruin my day by making me dizzy/disoriented for hours thereafter.
  • They took out 3D on Minions which made that SO much more enjoyable! It truly was a great change!!
  • As for things we did re-ride, we did Hulk 3x, Hagrid's 2x, Dr. Doom 2x, Forbidden Journey 2x, Hippogriff 4x, E.T. 2x, Gringott's 2x, The Mummy 2x.
  • The Mummy and Hagrid's are both PHENOMENAL coasters to me! I could ride them both over and over again! I like Gringott's but I wish it had a bigger finish with a couple more drops/fast section, I feel like that would make for a better ending.
  • We missed the Raptor encounter on the first 2 days and it was down the last day. I'm not exactly sure how the Raptor encounter goes down...but it did...it felt very odd/frustrating that basically a "character meet" was not operating...we really wanted to do that too.
  • I'm not sure I can ever go back to Universal without Express pass now. It was awesome to not wait in any lines...
  • We saw the Dark Arts projection show - that was neat but had no cohesive story-line so it didn't really create anything memorable for me unlike Disney's nighttime projection shows.
  • I do not like the eating situation at Universal. Maybe it's just my lack of knowledge of the in park options but we do not have good meals there. And every restaurant we've chosen at City Walk has had terrible (slow) service. We hit up Hard Rock and NBC Grill on this trip and both were way too slow for us. Toothsome was quoting an hour wait so we walked away from there. And priority seating as an on-site guest got us nothing. Our best meal of the trip was at Perkins last night, lol! We're just simple people. I think in the future we'll head off-site for dinner to something simpler and less expensive, it just fits our tastes better, haha!
  • So in general my 2019 trip was very much like my 2017 and 2015 trips. I enjoyed the time together as a family, the rides were ok and kept us entertained, and we'll probably look to go back in 2-3 years. I could not envision buying an AP to Universal despite it's relatively low price point. I can't imagine wanting to go back multiple times in a 12 month span.
Hagrid's Rope Drop Information: (@CyndiLouWho - if you want a detailed explanation here you go)
Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure on both Sunday Nov 3rd and Monday Nov 4th. Here is a detail of our experiences on both days:

- Sunday Nov 3rd
  • 8:15 am - Arrived at Park entrance. We were approx. 3/4 of the way back from the entrance to the ticket booths
  • 8:40 am - gates opened, people began full out sprinting to the coaster after scanning their tickets. There was no crowd control whatsoever to slow people down.
  • 8:45 am - (approx.) we got through the turnstiles after scanning our tickets and briskly walked to the coaster. We were passed up by a bunch of runners and I had to really protect my short 9 year old from a few folks who were darting in an out of groups.
  • 8:50 am - (approx.) we entered the extended queue for the ride and could hear people on it already, we continued to slowly move forward without stopping, we went past the lockers (which was a cluster of people separating from groups then pushing their way to join back up...) They DO NOT make you leave your cell phone in a locker and DO NOT have metal detectors. You just need to put bags in the lockers.
  • 9:05 am - we stopped moving finally. We already were past the pre-show movie at this point. They were not showing the pre-show movie this early which was super dumb because we still were going to wait 25 minutes from this point...a 5 minute movie would have been nice to watch...
  • 9:29 am - we boarded the ride - IT WAS AMAZING. Very well done in every way imaginable. I literally have no criticisms whatsoever of this ride.
  • 9:34 am - on our way to meet up with my wife and younger daughter who wouldn't (wife) and couldn't (daughter) ride.
- Monday Nov 4th
  • 8:15 am - Arrived at Park entrance. We were approx. 3/4 of the way back from the entrance to the ticket booths again.
  • 8:40 am - gates opened, sprinting occured again. We picked a bad line where EVERYBODY in the first group had ticket issues. We managed to merge in with the line beside us instead but got moving a little slower than the day before. There was again no crowd control whatsoever to slow people down.
  • 8:55 am - (approx.) we entered the extended queue for the ride and were told that it was experiencing a delay. We continued to meander forwards at a much slower pace than the day before.
  • 9:05 am - we heard the first people go by on the ride. This indicated to me that we were at least 15 minutes behind schedule from the day prior (plus we took awhile to get in the park due to the stupid ticket issues).
  • 9:24 am - NO PRESHOW MOVIE AGAIN! I seriously was angry about this. We literally were not going anywhere in the midst of 30 more minutes of line and yet no preshow movie for us.
  • 9:48 am - we boarded the ride - got the very back seat - it was so fun and more thrilling than a middle seat in my opinion!
  • 9:53 am - on our way to meet up with my wife so despite the delayed start still not terrible. We were able to get over to Pteranodon Flyers before the line backed up there. It was 10 minutes when the girls got in line (with my mom/sister) and ballooned to 50 minutes before they got off 15 minutes later.
  • If I had it to over again, I'd have tried to get to the park entrance prior to 8am both days.

For those that have used WiFi on a SW flight, What do I need to do or setup for DW's flight tomorrow to use my SW Biz card WiFi credits? Can I load the card on her SW account? Do I need to give her the number and info to enter on the web page during the flight? Just wondering how it all works and what I can do to help her beforehand.

How is MIB not on your reride list? lol I think we hit that one up 20 times a day. We are a little competitive.
This was the first trip we had ever rode it. Line was too long the last 2 times - with Express Pass this time that was not an issue. That said, I wasn’t impressed, lol. In the word of Randy Jackson “it was just alright for me dog”... I didn’t dislike it, it was just not a multi-ride for us.

While true that we don't judge how people churn we do judge about food choices :) It's all in fun so if you ever see someone call @SouthFayetteFan a dictator :mic: it's in jest. And people feel quite strongly about pop tarts :crazy2: and candy corn. :crazy2:

Also don't worry if someone gets sent to the shun corner, some will even self shun. There's snacks there but you may need to bring your own if you aren't a fan of dr pepper and oreo's. Though @amalone1013 might still have some candy left. :)

Well we certainly saw what can happen if the Benevolent Dictator goes away for a few days...

Also, his “benevolency” requests that you always use the word Benevolent in conjunction with the word Dictator... I don’t want anybody thinking that I rule with a reign of terror!

Forgive me if this has already been discussed ad nauseam, but the whole Amex Rat thing boggles my mind. I don’t understand how they can justify clawing back points (self referrals) and now credits for what appear to be flaws in their own system. I understand the referrals were not intended for self referrals, but in my opinion they f’d up when they created a system that let those things slip through. They should have accepted responsibility for the error in their system, and as soon as they realized people were self referring shut it down. Why claw back the points? It seems petty. Amex created a “flawed” system and people ran with it. Honestly I find it a bit tacky.

If I left an entire bucket of candy on my doorstep on Halloween and the first kid who came by took the whole bucket; I see that as my fault. The kid saw an opportunity and took it. Lesson learned on my part. But should I chase him down and claw back the candy? Maybe, maybe not.

Said by someone who has yet to receive her first Amex card. 😉
I don't get this analogy. Why would that be your fault? Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. If I have the opportunity to steal something because someone made it easy doesn't make it ok to do it. Maybe I'm just looking at this all wrong.
