Did I miss the discussion of the nerfing of the Barclays Uber? I got an email about the changes earlier today and just now had time to read. Big discussions about the card on Slick Deals and r/Churning too.

I will no longer suggest this card to people. In fact, I think I will just cancel mine. I have enough sock drawer cards as it is.

I don’t suppose many of us here have this card so it hasn’t generated much discussion, but it was a good option for some people. I also cannot in good conscience continue to recommend this card with the new changes.

I got this email yesterday as well outlining the changes and wow, the Uber is now a terrible, terrible card. I had actually been using it for category spend in between MSRs for a while but man, forget that. I'm at ~2,250 points so I might as well get to the $25 threshold and cash out before the change over, but yeah no reason at all to keep this card anymore.

Lots of chatter on r/churning that you might as well keep it open for AAoA because there's no AF but that's just dumb. Closed accounts continue to age for some time and I have enough sock drawered cards.

I'm guessing Uber either hopes most people won't notice, or most people were using their rewards for Uber anyway not realizing it was cash back. Who knows. Interested to see how this turns out a year down the line.

This. How many sock-drawered cards does one need anyway? I've got loads of them. At some point, you need to be able to streamline your life, mitigate risk - and stick it to these companies.

No. This new Green refresh is on a personal card. If you have a biz card it's completely different.

Yes if your 15 and 16 then 25 is ancient. Gen Z uses snap chat, tick-tock, twitter, and several others. Anyone using Facebook is a boomer even if you're 20.

LOL my kids told me 11+ years ago that anyone using FB was "OLD".....actually my oldest child informed me that as soon as 'old people' start using a social media platform, the kids start using something else. B/c it's 'ruined' now. I believe him,and I have no real interest in the never ending social media choices that 'kids' are using.....

So, how does this relate to people such as me, who are over 5/24, get a 'just for you' and get approved? Is there human interaction? Or do they just send the app through a different set of algorithms?

I won’t claim to have intimate knowledge of Chase’s process on this but my general thoughts:

• Something in their approval computer appears to ignore 5/24 on a preapproval application
• This might be intentional to avoid CFPB complaints, etc due to somebody being “preapproved” and then denied
• A computer is also identifying people to target; this is likely driven primarily by marketing with the risk/credit dept having a minor say
• I’m fairly certain the groups driving these 2 separate processes aren’t talking. That doesn’t seem to happen at big banks haha.
• I’d imagine they know that some 5/24 folks are getting past the gate that way but it’s not worth the cost/effort to Pursue fixing it

We also know they are using off shore folks to handle pending apps now too. So I guess I should acknowledge that those qualify as human eyes. However, if their use of off shore is anything like my banks use of off shore, those folks have a VERY narrow window to operate in. They might as well be computers because they probably don’t have any lee-way to “think”.

• Currently SW is offering flights through 4/13/20, and this next release will take their schedule out to 6/6/20 (covering the remainder of spring break season as well as Memorial day but narrowly missing the beginning of "summer break" trips). For those that care about "release timing" it's been all over the board recently (all times eastern).
• Flights typically go “live” between 7 am and 9 am Eastern. HOWEVER, two of the last three releases did not go live until 10:41 am and 9:20 am Eastern respectively.
  • The release on 9/26/19 went live at 7:30 am.
  • The release on 8/15/19 went live at 10:41 am.
  • The release on 5/30/19 went live at 9:20 am.

That’s just how their search works. Just make sure you aren’t buying any promo tickets that have a date restriction. Also - be aware you’re getting WILL CALL tickets and will need to present a credit card with a matching last name to pick them up. They don’t make that clear ANYWHERE until after you’ve picked up the tickets.

That’s what the lady at my gym said. I asked if she has Instagram because I don’t have a Facebook and she said “no I’m old remember?” Lol. She’s only 41. That’s not old. My parents are in their 60s.

I would love to do that! I’d have to go alone since DH and DS would not enjoy it.

I’m your mom’s age and I get it. I have FB, Twitter, and Instagram. I don’t do Snapchat though. I mainly use FB to keep up with people I rarely see. I have refused to be friends with people who have requested it (not FB friends with coworkers). I use Twitter to follow sports and of course hotel and airlines to help with issues.

My mom doesn’t have a Facebook though lol. She would never know how to use it and honestly probably wouldn’t care. My dad has one but he doesn’t put any pictures or anything. He mainly uses it to look at pictures of my nephews. I don’t have Snapchat and never wanted it. Seems pointless to me. I have Instagram, Twitter (which I never use), and Pinterest. Dh wants us to make a Facebook just to share pictures of the baby with people. I wanted to do a shared google photos folder but I got voted out lol.

Just saw they will be doing Villains After Hours during our February Orlando dates. So tempted... but sweet fancy moses I did not realize how expensive the tickets are for that for basically five hours in the park. Not sure I can stomach that... I'll see how bad DH wants to do it.

I got serious about MRs in the summer 2017, when my goal was 166K MRs to transfer to DL (just so I'd surpass the cap, lol). Then I started reading trip reports and realizing those MRs could do me more good as such and the rest is history. That said, I think transferring half and keeping half (or transferring 3/4 and keeping 1/4) is a good idea-you know you're travel plans for the next 2-3 years and likely DL will play a large part of that. There's no wrong way (well except for lawnmowers, dishwashers, etc IK...sort of ) to use your miles/points.

I need people to chime in on whether it's worth it haha. I really wanted to do VAH this past summer and even want so far as to price some flights, but I guess I just never paid attention to the actual cost of the tickets. I do really like the villains theme and DH is a biiiiig Hercules fan, so I feel like he would enjoy the stage show. It would have to be something that's less crowded than the parties though, because both MNSSHP and MVMCP were both PACKED and I'm not willing to shell out for that level of crowds again.

How fun!! I think we might have seen this hotel when we were in FL this past July. Is that where it is? We were going to do an airboat tour in the everglades and we looked over in the distance and there was this enormous guitar shaped building. Like so big it dwarfed everything around it. Looked really cool!!

Yes, this is the hotel! It just opened on October 25th (Maroon 5 opened the new concert venue).

@calypso726 if you are in town you and the Plane Princess should join us -- at least for a meal! It would be so much fun! Dd and I plan on arriving there before check-in time. We want to have time to explore the new 26,000 square foot shopping arcade and the pool area before we have dinner.
