DH flew SW to Chicago and back yesterday. He had people on his flight while waiting to board complaining about how SW does things....? lol

Gems such as:
Boarding would be so much faster if they boarded from the back and exited from the front
They should line the people waiting to board up in the jetway while still waiting for people to finish deplaning
SW needs to get with the (expletive) program and assign seat numbers

DH was just like, go fly United then if you are so concerned about assigned seats. They were B1 and B2 with SW. :rotfl:

Okay I feel dumb- @calypso726 or anyone else I was following your advice/guidance on BA Avois for an AA flight. Saver award is available on AA but I can’t even find the flights on the BA website. I did google but it just says “book via BA!” very vague haha

I would check AA first for a saver award. I'd write down the departure city, date, time and flight number(s). Then log on to BA and search for the award. If the AA award has a connection then you will need to search by segment. Don't worry about not seeing it. If it isn't there, call BA. Two years ago, I had friends that wanted to get to Hawaii with us. When they searched for the flight the website says BA doesn't fly that route. It's true, they don't. But the flight was available on AA as a saver award. So they called BA and gave them the AA flight number and BA booked it.

If the saver award is not available on AA then BA can not book it and neither can any other One World partner. It means that AA has not made partner space available. I was not able to book my return flights from JFK to MIA with BA because there was no AA saver award. So, I used MRs to book 3 flights for less than one AA anytime award would have cost.

I know there were quite a few people around her planning on Japan for next summer, and I just saw that the blogger who shan't be named posted about good availability on ANA in Bus/First today. Probably too late, but thought I'd mention it.

Ha! I had the same thought about United today. They are soooo on crack with their new award pricing (see below).

I also bagged a unicorn on United--and something I think will be seen even less often after November ... RT saver awards for SFO to LHR (one stop) in Business for 60k miles each way. I decided to take a last minute trip in a couple weeks, and there they were. Sold!

Finding United Saver availability from SFO to LHR is horrible. I can't remember the last time I found one when I was searching. I've tried numerous times even when they supposedly drop and nada. They have plenty of regular business at 155k each way but savers are mostly partner awards. So just for fun, I looked at flights dropping today in September with the new dynamic pricing in effect ... OMG ridiculous. Regular business awards for 240,000 each way. That is more Chase URs than it took me to fly RT to Japan in First Class on JAL. So basically after this trip I'm writing United off as a way to get to LHR. I wasn't even that impressed with Polaris--totally depends on the plane. For 60k fine, but 240k? No thanks. I guess I'll be resigned to my fees on BA and VS. I'm actually contemplating the new BA chase card that wipes off some of the fees.

I'm swimming against the tide around here with AMEX but I really love DH's new Schwab Platinum. I used the Saks credit today and he had a great AT&T offer on there again. I do wish it was easier to use the travel credit though. I miss the SWA gift card option. I guess I'll go the route on FlyerTalk, but if anyone has any other ideas let me know.

Yeah, I feel like United is the new Sky Pesos. Nice unicorn find though! I'm with you, I will suck it up with the BA fees. I am also scouring FT and will be doing some testing to see what works come January.

THE REFRESHED AMEX GREEN IS LIVE!

tumblr_pny8g75X0f1rmt1pho1_400.gifv

https://www.americanexpress.com/us/credit-cards/card/green/
  • 3X Membership Rewards points on travel including flights, hotels, transit, taxis, tours, ridesharing services, and more.
  • 3X Membership Rewards points at restaurants worldwide.
  • $100 CLEAR credit per calendar year.
  • $100 LoungeBuddy credit per calendar year.
  • $100 Away luggage credit.
Annual fee $150
Offer ends 1/15/20. (The Away credit seems to be part of the New Launch Offer and will likely be discontinued after 1/15/20. Existing Green cardmembers get the CLEAR and LoungeBuddy credits, but do not get the Away credit.)

The public offer I'm seeing is 30,000 Membership Rewards Points after you spend $2,000 on purchases on your new Card in your first three months.

However, I'm able to pull an incognito offer of 45,000 Membership Rewards Points SUB for the same $2,000 MSR in 3 months. Try different browsers, computers, and VPN settings if that's available to you.

Reports are the new Green card is support-able, with a 35,000 Membership Rewards Points SUB, $2,000 MSR in 3 months, and a $150 Away luggage credit (instead of the standard $100). That's in addition to whatever your P2 gets as a bonus from supporting you. (DO NOT self-support!) If P2 has a Platinum or Business Platinum that earns a 15k MR support bonus, that's 15k MR for P2 and 35k MR for you (or vice versa). AF is still $150.

(Note the welcome bonus language isn't prominently displayed, but you can find it under New Launch Offer and to the side of the application page.)

** For anyone considering signing up for this card, you won't be eligible for the SUB if you have or previously had the Amex Green card before the refresh. Also, it is a personal charge card that will add to your 5/24 count with Chase, but it does not count against the 5 Amex credit card limit.

I have to say, the new Green is looking like a solid card with 3x travel and dining – the same earning structure in MR as the CSR earns in UR – with "only" a $150 AF. By comparison, the CSP, which earns 2x UR in the same categories carries a $95 AF. The Green also comes with $300 in credits without the CSR's $450 AF, but these credits are highly specific unlike the CSR's general travel credits and seems intended to get you to spend money on things you might not have planned.

CLEAR is nice and generally considered faster than TSA PreCheck and Global Entry, but its availability is limited to fewer airports and it costs $179 per year; adding up to 3 family members will cost another $50 each (discounted for Delta SkyMiles members and cardholders and United MileagePlus members – even the free basic memberships). Away luggage is nice, but carry-ons start at $225 (Away does often send out coupons for $20 off). LoungeBuddy could be useful if you find yourself in an airport terminal without a Priority Pass, Centurion, or Escape Lounge, but other cards seem to have this space well covered, and LoungeBuddy doesn't have participating lounges everywhere to fill in the gaps.

As already being discussed on reddit, the Green's 3x MR travel and dining bonus categories could eat into the more expensive Gold ($250 AF) and Platinum ($550 AF) in signups and retention, or at least spend. 3x MR at restaurants on the Green is almost as good as the Gold's 4x MR; and the 3x MR on travel is broader and arguably more useful than the Gold's 3x MR and the Platinum's 5x MR on flights and Amex Travel.

Amex is still lacking a card that gives redemption of MR points through their travel portal a bonus like the CIP, CSP or CSR does for UR. The Biz Plat with a $595 AF offers a 35% rebate of points for certain kinds of award tickets on your selected airline for an effective 1.54 cpp redemption, but it's not instant or as useable as a 1.25 or 1.5 cpp redemption on the Chase cards. The Schwab Plat offers a 1.25 cpp cash out option, but it requires you to sign up for a brokerage account, another personal card, and a $550 AF. As @calypso726 pointed out, those fees really add up.

Different strokes and all that. I am an advocate for knowing what you’re buying though so people shouldn’t be surprised by SW’s processes. I’m happy boarding after the elderly and active duty (and now thank goodness before families) in Delta first. To each his own!

Bring on the flames- no I don’t understand why ambulatory children need 5 adults (especially at MCO) to assist their boarding 😡...once I counted 13!! boarding with a teenager 🙄

Slow morning in the points and miles blogosphere. Only DoC is reporting on the refreshed Green. I guess the affiliate links aren't ready yet.

ETA: TPG is up with news about the Amex Green refresh, along with their link for the public 30k MR offer. Nothing about the better incognito 45k MR or support-al 35k MR +$150 Away credit offers.

My step monster would disagree with you, Clear is the best kept secret ever. Uh, okay lady. :rotfl:

Rats, guess I have to wait for TPG to post his links before I apply!🤣

You laugh, but this has been a thing at least as far back as the initial CSR launch (and probably further than that). TPG had to wait a few days to get a link for the 100k CSR.

I only know this because of everyone on r/churning whining about it. That's how I hear the most about TPG, in fact. Reddit is good for angst.

LOL people are always complaining about something. I actually like their process. While I do like a reserved seat, Delta's boarding is chaos! Everyone in every boarding group crowds around waiting their turn, and it's always hard to hear whose turn it is to board and people push in when it's not their zone. At least with SW it's an orderly line.

I'm not ready to apply yet but I want to make sure I understand the airline credit on the Amex Hilton Aspire.

I know I have to select an airline first. I just don't fly much so I am concerned about it going to waste.

Does it work to purchase actual airline tickets? Could I purchase a flight (say on Southwest) from PHX to LAX or something and use that card and then they reimburse me the cost of the ticket?

If it does NOT work on a plane ticket, what other types of things could I possibly use it on? I won't have the card until after I've (tried to) get my reward tickets, so I can't use it on whatever fees are going to be associated with that.

Not sure if this was answered. Amex has made the airline incidental credit much more difficult to use. DPs of what works to trigger the credit can be found here or on FlyerTalk. Yes, you'll need to select an airline first, but it's easier to use up the credit on some airlines than others, so what works and what doesn't may influence which airline to select. It's always a good idea to check with us through reddit or the latest DPs on FT before selecting an airline or making a purchase in hopes of getting reimbursed by the credit. As a practical matter, the best time to apply for the Aspire (or any Amex card with the airline fee credit like the Platinums and Gold) is considered to be in the latter half of November through about mid-December; since the credit is a calendar year benefit, it's possible to use it in 2019, 2020, and again in 2021 before you're billed a second year AF.

While that may be true, it would greatly improve our Internet experience and allow us to do streaming.

This is why we are with Xfinity. We've had some of the others. It's less expensive for what we actually want. Our bill for net and basic is $125 a month. We wouldn't use the premium channels anyway, but streaming and a higher speed internet is important to DD. Your mother should call and see what they'll offer to keep her.
Edit to add: we could have a much cheaper internet from Xfinity but we choose the more expensive option. If DD moves out I'll go back to $29.99 internet, lol, but I won't like it.

So, how long do we think I should give this lady to refund me for the saddle pad I ordered for DH that she never delivered on? Requested a refund last Wednesday, 10/16, she said she would do it. Still nothing. She is a small business, don't know if that makes a difference to anyone or her refund time. I'm thinking I'll give her until next Wednesday before I start to drop the hammer.

It's been a week. Enough of this "I'll pay you Tuesday," "the check's in the mail" BS. Dispute the transaction and force a chargeback. You're sleeping on your time-limited rights otherwise.

P.S. I see you ordered the saddle on 8/27. Generally, you have 60 days to dispute a charge and that's coming up on Saturday, 10/26/19. Get on it!
