OK so I've been following this thread pretty closely since the end of May, and I just have to share that I have either mis-read a few of your user names, or I've made up stuff in my head that I'm clearly not even pronouncing right.

@DisneyMandC - I always think of Disney Mac and Cheese. I'm sure "M" and "C" are likely initials, but that's just what I thought and it has stuck!
@elgerber - Until I tagged you in the last post, I was reading "EL BERGER"
@LilSweetPeaPhoto - For some reason I am reading "lil sweet pea hot pot" (I swear I'm not dyslexic!)
@Alexle2007 - I am reading "Alex El 2007"

Am I the only one? Please tell me I'm not the only one....

*sigh* I'm probably the only one.

I swear I do know how to read!
You are kind of close.

It’s Alex Le(e) 2007

I know I’m new here, but I’d like to join the “I’ve been Bonvoy’d” club. Is there like a special pin or badge I can get now that I’m a member? 🤣🤣

Almost ashamed to say I purchased (I know I’m sorry) points as they are on sale and I needed 2000 to top off my account. Well it’s been almost a week and still no points in my account. Finally emailed them last night and today they replied “we have NO RECORD” of your purchase >:( will I forward them my confirmation email.

Hopefully not a big deal, but after reading all your experiences I feel like I get to join the club now. Ha!

Oh and payment definitely posted on my credit card.

Stupid SW question. I assume the new no expiration is for all miles we currently have, not just future earned miles? If I wasn't already starting a $5k spend and $1k spend, I would try that 80k link for dh just to stock his account. I don't think there is anyway in heck I could meet two.
That’s correct. No expiration on your existing or future SW RRs. No more having to use the shopping portal to keep them alive. I believe United also just made this same change.

I had to switch off Chrome.

Were you willing to let it close? I am struggling with how to start the conversation. It would be different if it didn't matter to me if they closed it but I definitely don't want that to happen.

This mom didn't know you bought into DVC either. That's great, so happy for you! Where did you end up buying?
I am on the fence on closing it. I don’t really use many of this features since we hardly ever Uber or pay for flights to reap the 5x and Haven’t made it to A Centurion lounge. I am going to give it one more try.

I did something dumb, dumb, dumb!! I’m very sad at myself. I used my spreadsheet when I went to support DHs last card. I didn’t realize when I did that spreadsheet entry, I had copied and pasted another card, but updated all the relevant info to new card. I thought. Turns out I updated everything but the last 4 numbers of the card. So I just looked at that last line and used the old 4 numbers. That card was closed in June. I didn’t realize until I looked for support points. And they did show as pending on the closed card. So I was hopeful they still might post. Sadly, they did not. It even generated a statement. Which got me excited that yes they would post. But this is what statement says

I just have to remind myself it is not “real” money. But let my sad tale be a reminder that not only do you need a spreadsheet but you need to be super careful with your spreadsheet. Ughhhhhhh. I will go sit in the cry corner now, a level below the shun corner, I think.
I feel bad for you, I know how you feel. I closed both my old SW cards out when the AF posted before getting the anniversary points. Only 9k points so not a huge deal just mad at myself for a lame mistake.

My thoughts on the SW Companion Pass Change... UNPOPULAR OPINION: This is a Good Thing!

I've been following "all things Southwest" for 5+ years now and I can tell you the SW CP was a largely unknown thing back in 2014 when I first started pursuing it regularly. At this point it seems EVERYBODY and their brother knows about it now. I've had the CP come up in casual conversation at business lunches with people who are decidedly not churners but read something about it.

I have feared the death of the CP for a couple years now! When they killed hotel transfers counting that looked like the initial nail in the coffin. With the exception of the 80k new card offer, Chase has also been a little more stingy with the "increased offers" as of late. We haven't seen a 60k/$2k in awhile, have we? I also find DoC's comment about taking issue with the timing to be disingenuous. They gave AMPLE notice. When Southwest announced the change to the hotel transfers they were met with tons of resistance because they did not give ample notice and they ended up backing off and allowing additional time before implementing the change. They have informed us 11 weeks before 2020 even begins that you now need to earn 125k to get a CP. Seems like good notice to me considering technically I can't earn points towards CP until Jan 1, and at that time I'd need to earn 125k then.

Why is this a good thing?...
  • Well, the common person will not be able to figure this out. They won't pursue business cards, they won't MS, they will just let it go. OR they will earn the CP by spending TENS of thousands of dollars on their card. SW and Chase will both be happy with that outcome.
  • Companion Pass should live on then - if it becomes harder to earn, there will be less pressure to eliminate or further tweak the program
  • 125k isn't that hard... even if you missed the 80k biz offer (which by the way that offer still loads HERE I think)...you can do the 2 biz cards. 70k + 60k = 130k. My math says that's a CP.
  • There are also a ton of other ways to get to 125k without 2 biz cards. Perhaps you might lose a few months of the CP polishing off your 125k but that's better than if they killed the benefit altogether.
(EDIT: Oh and the no expiration is pretty nice too! For those with huge point stashes who never pay for flights it will make things easier)

So do not fret my friends but rather rejoice that instead of killing one of churning's GREATEST benefits, that they have actually protected it for the savvy churner!! If you have been following my advice to earn the CP via 2 Biz Cards this change does NOT affect you at all :D :D
Time for a little churning history lesson with @SouthFayetteFan!
If you didn't already know this, I am a bit of a churning historian. I love the game, I've been playing it a long time, and I remember a lot of key events in the history of this great churn we all partake in!

First off I need to give proper credit to @Ngwira for sharing this gem of a blog with me today:
https://www.dansdeals.com/points-tr...west-plays-dirty-pool-companion-pass-changes/
Apparently Mr. Danny Deal Guru feels like this deceptive practice rises to the level of a DoT complaint...I read through his blog, and the comments, and I'm just not seeing this one like he does. I think it's a good thing, and I will continue to think this is a good thing. At any rate, he references the great Southwest CP rule change of 2017 where hotel transfers no longer counted. For those that weren't around then you might find this one interesting.

The announcement that came out on January 1 with NO notice was as follows:
We’re working to protect the integrity and value of Southwest’s industry-unique Rapid Rewards® Companion Pass by closing a loophole that previously allowed Members to transfer mileage and points from other partner loyalty programs toward qualification for a Companion Pass. As we closed this loophole, we also updated our terms and conditions which now clarifies that points converted from hotel and car loyalty programs, and e-Rewards, e-Miles, Valued Opinions and Diners Club will no longer count toward qualification for a Companion Pass. Members will continue to earn Companion Pass benefits through paid flights flown on Southwest, points earned through spend with Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards credit cards, and base points earned through transactions with Rapid Rewards partners.
I remember personally feeling pretty upset at SW for the timing of the 2017 change. With that change occurring right on Jan 1st with no notice, it just felt wrong. I had no skin in the game at the time because I was in the midst of the 2nd year of 2 CPs I believe (me and wife), but it still didn't feel like what I had come to expect from my favorite airline.

So within a few days the public backlash was SO great that they issued this statement:
As we began the New Year on January 1, we took the opportunity to close a loophole in our Rapid Rewards Companion Pass terms and conditions related to transferred points from our Partners. This was an effort intended to clarify qualification requirements for Companion Pass, one of the best benefits in travel, as well as to protect the integrity and value of the Rapid Rewards program.
In doing so, we updated our terms and conditions which now clearly state that points transferred from hotel and car loyalty programs, and e-Rewards, e-Miles, Valued Opinions and Diners Club will no longer count toward qualification for a Companion Pass. Members will continue to earn toward Companion Pass benefits through paid flights flown on Southwest, Points earned through spend with Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards credit cards, and base points earned through transactions with Rapid Rewards partners.
Many of you have reached out to us since then, and we greatly appreciate your honest and candid feedback. Because we are a Company that values our Customers and believes in doing the right thing, we are offering a limited window for Customers to earn toward Companion Pass by transferring their loyalty points from these Partners.
To that end, points converted from the above mentioned programs will count towards a Companion Pass until March 31, 2017. This is a hard deadline and we will not be able to make any exceptions beyond March 31. If you have points with these Partners that you wanted to transfer, please do not wait. Make the transfer before the deadline.
We appreciate all of our Customers and look forward to seeing you onboard very soon!

I'm fairly certain that this grace period had nothing to do with Danny and his DoT campaign, but either way, they made it right!
Hopefully you guys enjoyed today's history lesson, lol! I don't see SW backing off on this one, but we'll see what happens! Hopefully everybody is able to earn their CP via 2 Biz cards as we've discussing a lot lately!

Got the same offer. Had the same reaction.
Thanks, I got that offer but didn't see the new AF so was going to check that out, now I don't need to.
I was sad to see the SW CP go from 110k to 125k on Jan 1. I wasn't overly optimistic that I would be able to get another SW biz card and didn't really want to use my 5/24 slot for SW if I could buy my way to the extra 30k. I'm not buying my way to another 45k so I guess I better make sure I get the other SW biz before I use my 5/24 just in case.

agree with you.....SW does not have to offer CP.....and there are other ways they could of changed it....not allowing the sign up bonus to count would of hurt more......for him to do a write up over having to earn 15k more RR points seems like a sense of entitlement.....
That said I understand people made plans based on earning 110k RR points and it’s disappointing....but it’s not a right

I agree, if the CP was no more I would still be dang happy with my 80k points.

The Southwest CP HAS to be the topic that draws the most clicks to these "travel hack/point" blogs. No wonder they are upset. :charac2:

So I have the Amex Hilton Biz (fairly new... just received it a couple weeks ago) and when I log into my Amex account it says "You have 1400 HHonors Points" (I think they came from answering some surveys or something because I haven't even had a statement close yet).

I just now got my HHonors "October Monthly Statement" and it says I have 0 HHonors points.

Anyone have experience with this? I don't care (yet) but I'm wondering whether you've all seen similar discrepancies.

I have an educational discount when/if I pull the trigger. I'm trying to decide between the top level and the mid. I doubt I'll ever need the pass thru feature. Like I said, I have the universals so I got the "big daddy" lasers already. And my legit CNC is 3'x4' so I'm thinking I can get away w/ the mid level. Which do you have?

Oh interesting, Friend of mine inquired about an educational discount and they either said they didn't offer one or it was the same as the referral so he just used my referral so we both got the $. They offer a better discount than the normal referrals $100~$500? I have the basic because I was not planning on using it full time so didn't need to active cooling of the Pro model. I don't think the Plus is worth it $ to feature wise.

Did you add your Hilton number on the application? My first thought is maybe AMEX assigned you a new number
