That didn't take long...Skyliner Accident

A friend who rode this past week, with a baby and stroller said there was extremely difficult getting off with the stroller and her family in the time allotted when the car slowed down coming into the station, and she is on the young side.

We never felt there was an issue with a stroller and a toddler. I guess if you aren't prepared when the doors open then there could be issues but that is when they would stop the line.

The gondola have two long, narrow windows, one above the other, on both the front and back. They also have ventilation near the floor, under the seats.

Correct but that is not what the post was referencing. The person I was replying to had responded to a comment I made about the DL monorails having down time when outside air temperatures are high. The comments were not about the gondolas but about the new monorail cars they got that did not allow windows to open which was the issue and I added about air conditioning.. I had speculated that the Skyliner might end up having similar downtime if or until they can consistently stay moving since it's a passive cooling and from my experience it does warm up quickly when it is hot outside and stops.

just to let you know monorail just had a 2 plus hour stoppage with rescue last week

I get it....totally. Was stuck on the monorail on my trip in June. Wasn't that long and luckily we were in the Contemporary where we could just get off. Took about 15 minutes for a bus to pick us up and take us to TTC. At 1:30 in the morning, I was done. Had a complete breakdown and was only "stuck" on the monorail for 30 minutes. So that and the bus coming was maybe an hour. I wouldn't do well with waiting 2 hours.

Sorry, a billion-dollar company like Disney should not have monorail and skyliner breakdowns for hours long. Maybe some of you on here think that is acceptable but many do not, also if Disney would spend the $$$ these issues could be fixed. It's all about the $$$. Monorail has been having issues for years. I remember a year or two back of a bunch of people removing a window in the monorail to get some air because they were stuck for so long. Disney needs to address these issues instead of ignoring them.

..... The ride will be back up later this week and maybe sooner.

Was off by a few days. Primary change is they say they are going to improve communication to the cars. Which is exactly all that was needed as that was the main issue.

The most important change is the communication to the cars??? Not in my opinion. So everything will be fine if Disney tell people In the cars, "you are going to be stuck in this hot sky box in the sky for over 3 hours" and then everyone will be ok with this???

Okay? In the expert opinion of the experienced manufacturer/installer in conjunction with the property owner, and the inspections, reviews, work, and repairs that were done over the last approximately maybe 180+ hours - apparently.

Our opinions only matter regarding whether or not each of us individually will use the Skyliner.

Oh come on, that is ridiculous I don't care what million dollar CEO or manufacturer who sold the skyline to Disney say, the poor communication to the people stuck was NOT the biggest issue. The biggest issue was people got stuck for over 3 hours and they couldn't get rescued in a reasonable of time and Disney and their emergency services had no clue either how to rescue the people either. What about if it was 95 degrees out midday and people were stuck with no air conditioning??? Are you meaning to tell me some people wouldn't of had medical issues??? Oh, I forgot there are a few vents in the enclosed capsules!!!

ie - if windows don't open then they needed air conditioning, yes? That is what they forgot when the decision was made to not have working windows like they had on previous monorails there. So, with no cooling options the monrail gets shut down if the heat is too severe.

The windows on the current Disneyland monorail DO open, but they only open halfway. The previous monorail had windows that you could pop out slightly. The cars also have a fan blowing air all the time, but it's not an AC.

When they stopped running the monorail this summer from 11am-6pm, it was a budget cut, not a heat issue. The monorail shuts down when it's over 85 degrees.

I'm confused. Where did that article day anything about biggest issue? Did you miss, "Following a complete review with the manufacturer, we’ve made adjustments to our processes and training, and..."
What about if it was 95 degrees out midday.
If, if, if. Az di bobe volt gehat beytsim volt zi geven mayn zeide'. It wasn't 95°, it wasn't midday, and if it ever happens again, well, it shouldn't - because Disney has made changes to its processes and training.

we'll be at YC in 10 days and I asked my husband if he would ride it and he said sure! I want to but the thought of being stuck in one scares the crap out of me. :rotfl:
