Statement from Disney about the reopening of the Skyliner (via Disney Parks Blog)

"We know many of you have been looking for an update on Disney Skyliner and are glad to share that it has reopened to guests today. Following a complete review with the manufacturer, we’ve made adjustments to our processes and training, and we are improving how we communicate with guests during their flight with Disney Skyliner. We again offer our deepest apologies to the guests impacted by the malfunction that resulted in extended operating delays on Oct. 5. "

That statement points to human error rather than mechanical or software issues..

I don't necessarily read it that way. There could just as easily have been a mechanical issue that caused the initial "incident" but they adjusted processes and training on how they dealt with it over the 3+ hour delay.

We were at the Texas State Fair this weekend. There are gondolas there. It’s funny because I looked up to see if the numbers were on the bottom of the gondolas after all this discussion on here about the fact that the Disney ones didn’t have numbers on the bottom. FTR, there were numbers on the bottom of the ones at the fair.

I don’t know that we are going to get a detailed report. Whenever the monorails go down, I’ve yet to see a detailed report on the specific issue made public, how they fixed it, and what safeguards were put in place to avoid it happening again. I’m not saying it doesn’t exist nor am I commenting on what I think should or should not be made public, but I’ve never seen a detailed report released.
We rode gondolas that were very similar to the ones at Disney in Vermont. Made by Dopplemayr and they seat 8. https://gostowe.com/listing/gondola-skyride-at-stowe-mountain-resort/ They did not have a vented end, but the door had two windows you could drop to open. We stopped twice on the way up and once on the way down and the cars do sway, from wind and from momentum. It is also bumpy going over the towers and the entire car rumbled.

I did not see if they had numbers on the bottom, but there were numbers on the sides of each gondola.

I hope that’s not just lip service and they actually did recognize how much their lack of proper communication contributed to the situation.

Typical Disney jargon that says a lot without saying anything. Wah wah wah.

I was wondering that too ... though could have been a combination of things. So Doppelmayr reviewed the system and adjusted anything that needed adjusted with the system (so fixed/adjusted any mechanical part) and they have also identified ways to modify practices to make this safer and more efficient. Perhaps also the way they were doing things just didn't jive with how the system was programed - or just when it was open for full they realized the way the system was set didnt' jive with how real people were really using it and they needed to adjust both the mechanics and the processes

maybe my expectations are just super low but there was actually more in there than I would have expected with them explicitly stating they will modify processes and training - that is straight up admitting something on their end was not adequate - more than we often get

Can’t speak for the communication but Dopplemayr was on site for this past week that it was down.
I suspect Dopplemayr has been there all along. In fact, I'd wager a guess that some of their engineers and other staff were moved to FL while it was being built and they will be there for months after opening, especially given the current circumstances.

Of course, and from their perspective they want this system to be successful. If it is they can use it to show other places around the world what they can do.

These were my thoughts as well. There is at least an acknowledgment that communication WAS, indeed, an issue. I expected any release to simply say "we fixed the problem - yay!" and move on, without any acknowledgment of that piece. That communication part - between CMs, with guests, with emergency responders - was pretty clearly the larger issue in terms of prompting the 3hr wait.

Now that it is back open, if you have ridden or are riding let me know which number, color, and if it is a character or not. This was I can work to complete the full list of cabins.

I was wondering if Disney is still in some form of manufacturer warranty period on the Skyliner.
(Even if not, it would be smart to hire manufacturer reps on time and material)

I’m sure that’s part of it but like I said also Doppelmayr is going to want this system to be very successful to tell other potential buyers “look at what we did for Disney” that sort of thing speaks volumes.

I assume blue 108 and yellow 066 were retired?
