As the Ticker Turns...the neverending saga of the Resort Changers

Debating a switch... We're currently booked 12/21-12/28 at a cabin at FW. According to the site, switching from the cabins at FW to AKL with free dining could save us nearly $1000. If those number can be believed. What are the pros and cons here? I've kind of got my heart set on the cabins but if that number is real, it's hard to pass up those savings. Appreciate all thoughts!

Chiming in from an old RCer...
If it were me I'd book AKL. It's a beautiful resort with a lovely pool. Whether you have a savanna view or not, there are plenty of places to view the animals throughout the resort. Add in the substantial savings and I think you have a great deal.
Happy planning! :flower:

Everything that @gwynne said plus with Free dining you won’t miss not having a kitchen. You’ll be missing out on space of the cabins HOWEVER you are saving a bunch AND the amount of space to relax and explore at AKL is amazing. Also AKL is so compact compared to Fort Wilderness I think I would make the change without hesitation!!

Howdy @pas130 and all the RC gang,
Thought I'd take a minute and post what's new. My DH is doing well, he continues to get wonderful care here. He is better now than he was before we moved a couple of years ago. Retiring in the Midwest was a very good decision!
I'm having one of those ends in zero birthdays this year. To celebrate, we are planning a trip to the mouse in Oct. Food and Wine and a belated birthday celebration will be so fun!
Wishing all the best to RCers new and old,
Happy Resort Changing! :flower1:
Wonderful news HUGS

I am certainly not new to this thread (lol)... and I just have to put it out there that I think we're "set" on our final choices for a stay next month! It began as CSR or CBR split with AoA. Then turned into CBR split with Beach Club. (We stayed on that a for a good couple of weeks!) Then it was POFQ and AKL. (Again, that was also for a good couple of weeks and "the final decision." hahahahahahaha!) As of yesterday, it is now (and I hope stays as) POFQ for 4 nights and Yacht Club for 6 nights. (Of course, we've still got a month to go... )
:rolleyes1:confused3:rotfl2:

I've made so many changes that just today I literally am back to the resorts I started with. I'm beginning to think I have some serious issues. I also have 50 days left. DH thinks I'm ! I try to tell him when I change reservations and he doesn't want to hear it and he says I'm just going to just change them again anyway. Finally he just tells me to let him know when we're on the plane.

I would not change that split!! POFQ is amazing and YC, while not my favorite in the Crescent lake area...is perfect for Food and Wine 🎉

My DH is the same!!!

Yes I was also looking at YC but then a reservation became available at BWV through DVC so I grabbed it. Don't have to pay cash so that's always a perk. It also allowed me to grab a Club Level room at Gran Destino. DH will love that!

Oh oh oh - I have found my peeps at last! A few years ago, I stopped using a touring company because I know that they sighed *huge* sighs every time I called to switch. Now that I do everything on the website, I am free to make 10 changes per day if I want. And when that latest set of discounts dropped, it made for a roller-coaster of a day. We have a trip in March for which I’d rented DVC points at AKL. Very excited to stay there, but no possibility of switching since I paid up front last April. But then (hallelujah!) my brother-in-law wanted us to come a few days early so that he could join us. So I booked a couple of nights at POP, but then realized that there is a cheer competition that week and he’s grumpy if it’s noisy. So then moved to POFQ ... and then the discounts came. I swear, I was just going on to see if I could get POFQ for a cheaper rate, and I saw OKW was a great deal! Switched there, but then saw that not all buildings have elevators, and he needs one. So switched to Saratoga Springs. But we’ll be spending both days in Epcot. So maybe, BC! But then, I got worried about the Juliet balconies, so YC. Then decided I was being wasteful and went back to POFQ. Then back to YC. Then caught a great deal on YC Club Level (standard room) and then it was midnight. Seriously, all of this happened in one day. And now I’m stalking the site in case a water view club level opens up. So ... please tell me that I’m at least fairly sane. My wife is unconvinced.

Welcome! I’d love to know how you found all those great rates! I have terrible luck with rates. Also, I’d be afraid to make so many changes on the Disney site as I fear they’d mess up my reservation. Congrats on a great deal for YC Club level! It will be fun to see where you wind up staying since you’re not going until March you have plenty if time to find your perfect resort and deal! Happy changing! :flower1:

We're AP holders, so I just jockey between Annual Pass rates and whatever discount is being offered. Of course, a "great rate" also depends on the trip. For instance, the Club Level was $75 more per night than the regular discounted rate. Since there are three adults in the room, getting breakfast, snacks, drinks, apps, and desserts for each of us is a great savings over buying those things outright. Of course, if we were doing a rope drop to closing trip, I wouldn't have considered it.

Ahh...yes, that works well. I was an AP holder for many years, visiting a few times a year - absolutely loved the flexibility an AP gave me to hop down for a long weekend or take advantage of a great rate. Life changed, we moved, and Disney trips slowed down. Now an AP is so costly that I will never likely have one again. 😥 Sure miss my former Disney life...former CM, former AP holder, former often visitor. I even used to be one of those lucky folks who received regular email or snail mail pin codes - 40% off was typical, or 30% plus free dining, or 40% plus a gift card at check-in - those days are long gone. Like the saying goes...all good things must come to an end. :charac2::flower:

Can anyone help or advise. I live in Portugal so cannot phone any of the numbers given on MDE. I have a booking for ASM 12/9 - 12/12 but I want to change it to Caribbean Beach, but there is no modify/change option that I can see on my hotel reservations page? Is there an email address I can send a message to. I've paid in full for the booking.

New here!!! We have a 2 family trip planned in Jan. Started off with the Poly, hoping for a great discount. As yall know that didn't happen. So now we are at the Riviera with the 40% discount. I think we are committed. Unless something else awesome drops lol

Sooo-I've actually made reservations and not changed them this time! (well yet-have POFQ booked for first part, and Doubletree in Disney springs last couple days...that part may change!)

So I stumbled across this thread. I didn't know you could change resorts! This thread made it so I could change my mind, which I did on our upcoming trip. We originally booked all star sports but the fact that the beds were going to be doubles and the rooms not being refurbished was getting to me. So I emailed our Dreams agent and was able to switch to movies. I'm feeling good about the change. I would have gone with a moderate but we're trying to keep costs down.
