I'm in for Nov. 22, 2019 (Friday before Thanksgiving)

Is it possible that the teal car had juuuuuuust barely passed that sensor before getting stuck, so the system thought all was well? I have no idea where the sensor would be located, or whether there might be two, one just before and one just after the critical point where the gondola rejoins the cable. To me, it would make sense to have two, so that if it passes one point, but not the other within x number of seconds, everything shuts down. But I have No idea how it’s set up.

Does anyone remember, with the MK Skyway, did they have any CM monitoring the cars as they came in and out of the station to make sure they didn’t collide or fail to launch?

The old ones at Disneyland were hand moved around the station by CM's and put on the cable by hand. So if something went down they just wouldn't move them :)

It was the same at the MK Skyway if my memory serves me. They also have a similar set up at Busch in Williamsburg. Those were/are defiantly smaller gondolas and much easier to maneuver by hand.

I’m guessing mid-November. Those gondolas all need identification that is visible from the ground. It’s going to take time to take care of that.

The gondolas are all already numbered. Just not from underneath. How long could it possibly take to put reflective number stickers on a couple hundred of them at the storage station? Sounds like an overnight job almost.

You would think they would have sensors that could tell the teal car hadn't left the station and that should have triggered a fail safe shutting down the system.
They don't just "didn't grab the cable". That has to be a 100%, no if's no buts. These systems are all over the world. They also tested for over 5 months running. There had to be some other technical difficulty. Power outage has been suggested. And that may have been the culprit because the sensors need power. Wondering to myself whether the haul cable motors still had elec and the Riv station didn't? I would think that software would verify power to all locations at all times.

The original story (from CM's, not Disney itself) was that a sensor failed causing the accident. Maybe the sensor lost power, or maybe it just quit working. But I think the sensor quit, the blue car got stuck somehow and the other gondolas just kept coming until a CM manually stopped it.

Regarding other people talking about the 2 or 10 minute stops, those are (mostly) intentional. There are tons of reasons ranging from somebody failing to get on soon enough, to taking a car off the line for some reason. It happens on all systems around the world and it's going to continue happening. But the longer 10 minute stop could be something failing or overheating(do things still overheat?)

I doubt that they’ll be running to the closest Home Depot or ordering from Amazon. They should take the time to choose a product that has good adhesion, won’t wear off easily and is of an appropriate size. Only then will they be able to schedule workers to do the job “overnight”.

Right, but they also have in-house departments that basically specialize in that stuff, right? I know with big corps the 2nd toe on the left foot isn’t always in communication with the 4th finger on the right hand, but it’s basically nothing they ~couldn’t~ (operative word) accomplish in days, not weeks or months.

You would think they would be able to put some sort of simple GPS tracking on each cabin, or as far as that goes, didn't the people needing assistance call from a CELL PHONE? Unless you've turned off the location services, you can track those already. IMHO, it doesn't really add up that they couldn't find the cabin.

So the millisecond a sensor stops reporting "a" condition, then the system should automatically shut-down as a precaution right?

Oct. 11. I would’ve guessed the 12th, but it’s already taken.:)

The gondolas did stop during for more then a few minutes on several occasions. Posters suggested the temperature was about the same, maybe a degree or two higher. The temperature didn't rise to well over 100 degrees.
FAKE FACTS.

Stencils and spray paint. Putting numbers on the bottom of the gondolas could probably be done in a day, maybe even overnight
Actually many people did report them becoming hot when stopped and if they were stopped for three hours during the day, they would reach well over 100 degrees.

Fake Facts? According to whom? It’s October, not May. Right now the temperature may not climb too high, however it will in the summer. It’s simple science. Lastly, I believe the OP referenced car temperatures and how quickly the temperature can increase. Perhaps take another look.

Compiling on a forum isn't going to change the fact that they don't have AC in the gondolas because it can't be powered enough for it to be effective If Disney and Doplemire thought that it could be implemented it would have been put in them.

I know little to nothing about their capability to be air conditioned, but apparently they can be.

I think they don’t have ac because it’s perfectly safe not to. I don’t think Disney is stupid enough to install a system that if stopped for several hours, would allow temps to rise to a life threatening level.
