Both are one in the same. A roller coaster by theory doesn’t have to drop you off at the same place as it starts. If it didn’t then it would be transportation. Space Mountain drops you off at a place different from where you got on so technically in a way it’s very unhelpful transportation with some thrills in the middle.

I understand the point you're trying to make but I don't view them in the same scope. A thrillride ... people purposely avoid those kind of things because of some fear. People will board public transportation because there's more a feel of "safeness" to it. Regardless if I agree with that logic.

And if Hagrid's had failed and people were stuck 60 feet in the air for 3 hours you know as well as I do it would have been with more scrutiny than a "it happens" mentality. ;)

It was wrong of them to make that statement and like I said on Twitter, I’m sure some lawyer told them to make it to protect themselves. It’s not okay. My defense isn’t for Disney. It’s for gondolas because they same people who are tearing it apart after one accident are the same that have been criticizing it for months. Try it, don’t try it. I don’t care, but don’t openly badmouth a system and then use one accident to justify it for the rest of time.

Ah... okay makes more sense. I didn’t know there those who were constantly criticizing them.

AND IT MADE NATIONAL NEWS

But, you're right. The DIS didn't rant about it on their show so it's cool... no big deal...
Not what I said but ok.

you wanted a transportation comparison and I gave it.

People have gotten stuck on attractions for hours before as well.

Considering the more notable groups of people known for burning books... it's just a bad and unproductive analogy. You're skirting right up to the edge of Godwin's Law with that one.
You’re right. To be honest, when I said it I was thinking about people in the past who have burned Harry Potter books for bringing up witchcraft along with bands that have had their albums burned after ticking off their fans. I didn’t think of the full implications of the statement and that’s on me for not considering the whole part of it.

I worked in a theme park though so I know it happens. When people got stranded at the top of Rip Ride Rockit it was sensationalized but the fact is that it happens. Yes, it’s scary. No, I wouldn’t want to be there. But it happens.

I feel like this thread has done a much better job at hashing out all the different sides and analyzing what happened then the discussion yesterday.
Everyone at the table was allowed to share their thoughts. No one was there “shilling for Disney” as it has been put multiple times now in different places and I think Pete would probably be tearing those people apart for even accusing us of that because he doesn’t allow that which is why we only review meals and hotels we pay for. He might disagree with the rest of us, but he would most likely take offense of people accusing us of trying to be PR reps for Disney in this case, which we aren’t considering from the second the story first posted we were calling it what it was instead of a downtime.

I expect a heartfelt apology at the start of the next podcast.

As others have said I think the real problem a lot of us are having is more to do with Disney's response and communication. One issue I don't see mentioned here is that Disney kept saying all the gondolas that collided were empty, and indeed the one that got "stuck" was, but there's tweets and comments on this story all over from someone who was on the gondola that hit the stopped one saying their car absolutely was not empty.

This was a spirited discussion back and forth here, it was fun to read. It’s a complicated thing, I wasn’t wanting a rant just some passionate opinions.
I enjoyed reading this, thanks for coming to engage with the fans.

i'm still not clear why the comments on the video were turned off.
Because if and when comments get out of hand we reserve the right to turn comments off and I made the call that they were going off on this video based on what I was seeing and dealing with. I don’t control the boards so if the discussion happens here then that’s up to the moderators. We don’t turn off comments often, but it’s happened once or twice before and the last time before this Pete even thought about wanting all comments off all the time.

regarding what might have happened...
since it's been said that the system was down for about 10 minutes before the accident, my guess is that the system was rebooted during that down time.
i'm of course surmising, but i think that what might have happened is that the blue gondola, the one that started the incident, had received instructions before the reboot, but once the software rebooted, it went back to zero so to speak.
So now the blue gondola was past the point where it receives instructions, but the prior instructions were no longer in effect, thus causing it to not do what it's 'supposed to do" at that point.

this is a programming error.

i'm of course guessing that this is what happened but it's what makes sense to me.
This is a software development issue. The software developers didn't take this scenario into account in their programming.

again, just speculation on my part.

i should add that if that's what happened, it can be fixed by inserting the necessary code for this scenario...

Not to mention the fact that the people stuck had to listen to an endless loop of a prerecorded message that had absolutely NO details or useful information. That alone would have driven me completely bonkers.

when you say "get out of hand", you mean the comments were abusive? sorry if that's what happened..
chani and i just listened to the podcast now.
while i disagree with you about being stuck and all that, it's no reason to be abusive..
people can disagree....friends can disagree....no need to be abusive for sure!! :)

that's for sure!!!
i would have certainly been a basket case just being up there hanging from a cable..
and the thought of being stuck with strangers and having to go to the bathroom is rather chilling...
i doubt i'd have been satisfied with $100 compensation if that had come to pass...(so to speak)..
