This week's episode - comments disabled, no discussion?

Greetings! I noticed the comments were disabled on the You Tube broadcast for this week's show (I am a lurker - I don't comment, just scroll through) and there hasn't been a word about the show on the boards, unless I am missing them. Nothing in the chit-chat thread. Is the mood just too negative surrounding the Skyliner right now? (I know there's a thread on the Skyliner, but not necessarily on the team's take on the situation.) FWIW, I will ride the Skyliner when it's back up, I agree with Theresa...but I feel that the situation was a little more serious than "well, no one died, so people should just accept it." The story about the kid's picture broke my heart. I continue to think Deni is a great addition to the team, and Ryno is my leader.

And if I'm not supposed to talk about this please don't ban me! :disrocks:

It seems this like the DVC financing episode there isn't either an understanding or an acknowledgement of both sides of "arguments". With this specific one getting stuck in a bus or a monorail is vastly different. There is A/C in both of those, the Bus you can just walk off if you choose, and monorails can be evacuated in roughly an hour or so.

On the flip side what they seem gloss over is that Skyliner has no A/C, no easy exit for guests (like a bus), and takes several hours to evacuate (supposedly only a couple guests were lifted down after 3 hours).

Personally I wish I would have been on them when it broke down to say I was there. That being said I can see the seriousness of the issue and that the current evacuation protocol is 100% unacceptable. They couldn't even evacuate 1/3rd of the line in 3 hours and from all accounts couldn't even evacuate more than a handful of visitors during that period of time.

Yeah, I was a bit surprised at the nonchalant attitude about the skyliner incident. I feel like the discussion would have been VERY different had Pete been there.
Accidents happen and life moves on. There isn't a need for a rant or big stink about it really. Yes its unfortunate but transportation incidents happen on a daily basis and life moves on. No form of transportation is 100% fool proof.

I agree 100%. Disney and Dopplymeyer will use this as another data point in making/improving this and other systems in the future.

It would have been a very different conversation had Pete been hosting for sure because he was against them from day 1. Honestly it's a shame it happened so close to the opening and after months of testing, but they're called accidents for a reason. Like Craig said it can happen with any mode of transportation. Let's not forget how many issue Hagrid's had when it first opened, yes you're not suspended in mid air, but spending hours in line when the ride wasn't even working is probably pretty miserable as well. The death of a CM when the monorail crashed doesn't stop people from riding it so I don't foresee this stopping people from riding the skyliner.

LOL they closed the discussion because they didn't like the heat they where getting for their disregard and complete lack of empathy towards people being stuck for 3 hours. What's so disingenuous is these are the same people who get ticked off when they have to wait an extra 15 minutes for a reservation, but we are supposed to believe they would totally be cool being stuck in a hot box.

Yeah Craig is having a conversation about it on twitter - he's really defending Disney in this matter.

I'm kinda surprised, because Craig is usually a straight-shooter and doesn't engage in Disney PR. I do think it's strange because like the person above me said, if he or Ryno had gotten stuck, the reaction would be entirely different.

I remember the Amatista review from Universal when he and Ryno were furious because they had to wait too long for their food/server (not saying their reaction was unjustified). They didn't give Amatista any breaks because it was brand new, they didn't shrug it off...

I had no problem with the discussion on the podcast, but Craig's reaction on twitter is definitely a little unexpected. He's comparing those who don't like the gonadals to people that burn books. Uh, what??

Sure things happen, but how will next time be different is a fair question.
And if it can’t be different and I may have to use the bathroom in front of strangers, personally, I’d like to know that so I can weigh the risks.
Overreaction, meet kettle.
ETA: I agree with Craig there is some over reaction, but some valid concerns did come up.

I highly doubt that's why they turned off the comments. People tend to say pretty vile things about Craig and the others on a regular basis and they haven't shut the comments down before. I didn't see the comments, but I imagine there was a lot of arguing between the commenters themselves.

I agree that being stuck for 3 hours sucks and they need to have a better plan in place for a quicker exit. I feel for the parents, kids and those stuck with them. As a parent with a 6 and 2 yo I can't even begin to imagine how hard those hours were.

You have listened to the show, right? (rhetorical question)
Pete has "raised a stink" about things considerably less serious many times.

I'm not saying those past rants were unwarranted. But, I think it's pretty obvious that for you to brush it off as not a big enough deal to warrant discussion stands in stark contrast to the other topics that have been beaten to death over the years. I mean, I don't recall the last time I saw national news cover someone's meal not being worth $50. But they sure did cover this incident.

I know that but not everything needs a rant. I thought Craig was pretty fair about it on the show. I’m sure when Pete is back he will mention something. Like Teresa said, it’s not any different than a car accident really. People still get in cars after that. This incident just amplified those who were already afraid or against them to begin with.

If anything is justified in "needing a rant" this would certainly be at the top of that list. I can accept crowds, overpriced pizza (at Disney World, which is expected), a baby stroller running in to me, etc. But Disney having such a major issue on a brand new mode of transportation isn't something that I would just say "oh, that's ok, car accidents happen". Nevermind the fact that an automated form of transportation is completely different than you being on the highway with a bunch of people who are distracted by any number of things.

Wha?? I don't twit on the twitter so I am left to wonder what line of reasoning would lead one to THAT conclusion!!

After today, I’m finished talking about the Disney Skyliner. I feel like the people who blow the accident out of proportion are on the same level as people who want to ban and burn books. Way too intense for very little reason. It’s a shame that it happened, but it did. Move on.

Yes, it would’ve been different because Pete would’ve said his point and the rest of us would’ve said what we said. My opinion doesn’t change based on what Pete rants about and I’d hope no one lets their opinion change based on the feelings of one person. People tuned in hoping to hear us rip Disney apart and apparently none of us felt it was warranted or they had the floor to speak up as I didn’t try to silence anyone.

To each their own. While yes Disney has major PR issues with this like trying to down play it. I think how they talked about it on the show this week was perfectly acceptable. These aren’t unsafe, and they will run again soon with people. Craig and I basically have the same thoughts on this.
