Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

Oh, well, so much for being optimistic about human nature.

I am convinced, though, that there must be a method in existence that would successfully deter the majority of would-be emergency-kit pilferers -- I just am not up on my state-of-the-art pilferage prevention to know what they are.
Have you ever checked to see if your live vest is actually present in your airplane seat? I have. Some of them (but not all that many) have been missing.

I hope that when they do reopen it, they provide some sort of explanation (even a vague one of mechanical issue) as to why the teal gondola jumped the track. Mainly because I'm curious to learn the play by play of the evenings misadventures.

Anyone want to start a pool for when the Skyliner re-opens? Pick a date, closest to the actual date wins Internet bragging points.

I'm going with Jan 15th, 2020

I can't imagine Disney waiting that long, especially with the super-busy holiday season coming up. They spent a lot of $$$ on that system and they aren't going to just let it hang there useless. They'll test it for a while, declare it a 'freak accident', restart the system, and cross their fingers.

My prediction is no later than October 31 of this year.

I'm going with a week or two. You want a guess, October 15. Not the 15th, I'll go with earlier not later.

BUT

I wouldn't be surprised if the Riviera station doesn't open right away, other then on a testing basis.

If each station had a display showing what items are in the emergency kit, that would have at least prevented the bloggers from opening kits for page hits or general curiosity.

I like your prediction based primarily on my arriving at WDW on October 31st.

Based on some of the earlier comments, I'm guessing they are going to paint the number on the bottom of each cabin and I'm not sure that can be done on site.

With them already testing, I wouldn't be surprised if they opened back up this weekend. They have likely already determined what happened and "fixed" the issue. Otherwise they wouldn't be running the lines just to see if it happens again without correcting anything.

I actually would say closer to June of 2020, Disney made a huge error with not putting in AC in the Gondolas and this accident proved it because had this happened during the day, there would have been guests in the hospital and possibly worse and Disney knows it. This means they have to install AC on every single Gondola before they can even consider reopening them, as Disney doesn't want to have the potential liability of someone dying on the system due to extreme heat. Remember, in a car temperatures can climb to well over 100 degrees in the matter of minutes, even with Windows cracked, the Gondolas are the same thing when stopped. Disney dodged a bullet here by having them stop at night and not during the day.

I seriously doubt they will install AC. The system is not set up for that capability. How would you power them?

If they are not going to add the numbers on the bottom I could see them opening back up in the next week or so.

If they are actually going to make adjustments to the gondolas themselves I think it will be more of a 2 to 3 weeks or so.

Season really starts to pick up by November so I would imagine they want them open by then.

It's not funny, BUT I had to chuckle a bit when I read about how they couldn't locate specific gondolas from the ground because the numbers are only printed on the sides... as in, after all that evacuation testing, NO ONE thought about that???

I’m guessing mid-November. Those gondolas all need identification that is visible from the ground. It’s going to take time to take care of that.

The gondolas did stop during for more then a few minutes on several occasions. Posters suggested the temperature was about the same, maybe a degree or two higher. The temperature didn't rise to well over 100 degrees.
FAKE FACTS.

Stencils and spray paint. Putting numbers on the bottom of the gondolas could probably be done in a day, maybe even overnight

As someone who really wants them to be open next week for her vacation, I hope they get open soon, but I find it hard to believe it would take more than a day or two to slap a sticker on the bottom. I know there's more kinks to work out besides that, but I highly doubt numbers would be a huge factor in when it reopens.

I think this is a wish more than anything related to reality. They aren't adding AC to the gondolas.

I'm guessing 2 weeks... October 23 or there abouts. I'd also stipulate that depending on what actually was wrong (with the cable, gondola's, evac procedure, whatever) that it may only run for awhile at select times or conditions.
