Wow! So glad she is OK. That could have been much worse! The last time I took my car to an Autobody shop after an accident they didn't take credit cards at all! Total bummer, especially that they didn't even tell me until I came to pick up car. Ummm, what do you mean you don't take credit cards? Had to go all the way back home to get a check book and then tell them not to cash the check right away. lol I didn't have that kind of money just sitting in my account and it took awhile for insurance to reimburse me.
I think this is the craziest story I’ve read in a while. Glad she’s okay. And yay for easy MSR.
Yikes!! Sorry about your wife.
Wow! So glad your wife is going to be ok. Sounds like it could have been much worse.

Good that you can at least see a silver lining.
Oh my goodness! I'm glad she will be ok, and so glad that nothing worse happened!
That sounds very scary. Glad it turned out ok.
omgoodness, that is terrifying! So glad she is ok!

Thanks guys. I was actually out of town at a gig when it happened so it was crazy to hear about it over the phone. I got a text from my wife that literally said. "Ran my arm over with my car. Car is wrecked. Ouch" with a picture of her in the back of an ambulance (she does have a great sense of humor). She had gotten all the way out of the car to see what she hit and it was going to quickly for her to jump in so she tried to dive in to push the break with her hand. The door knocked her over and the tire went over her arm. Our kids were in the back of the car. DD8 jumped out while the car was in reverse and turning towards the house (DD10 stayed in the car til it hit the tree). So yeah. This could have gone worse in so many ways and we are counting our blessings. We are so grateful things turned out the way they did. I hope my previous message about the MSR didn't make me seem like an insensitive selfish jerk. She was actually excited yesterday to bring up the points and meeting MSRs were as a silver lining. She is amazing and besides a sore and very black and blue arm things are kind of back to normal already.

you didn't seem insensitive...just like you were making the best of a bad situation.

Oh man, a CP + WDW AP is definitely a deadly combo. The year we had that, it was all I could do to keep myself from scheduling 5 weekend trips. We managed to hold it to just 1 for my daughter’s 4th birthday but other trips were booked in a moment of weakness and then cancelled 🤣
We had a 2 CPs and APs that just expired in August and we went for 4 weeks total (never paying for a flight for our family of 4). We didn't do points for hotels and spent way too much money on food though. It was an expensive year and now we are on a budget lol.

My terrier had so many skin issues as well. It started when she was about 5/6 years old. Same thing! She would scratch and bite her poor fur off. It was so sad! Tried Apoquel and it did nothing for her. Tried all these different holistic diets. Nothing. Special shampoos and weekly baths. Still nothing! Finally took her to an allergist after years of trying different things. She wanted to put her out and do all this testing, but I couldn't put her through that (she was getting up there in age!). She gave her an injection of Cytopoint which I believe works similarly to Apoquel. Instant relief! She has to get shots monthly, but it was a huge change for her. Her quality of life is much better. Her silky shiny coat is back to normal and has been for a few years now!
We tried Cytopoint a couple of years ago, it didn't help at all :-(

We had the CP/WDW AP combo in 2018 and did the BEST bonus trip! We were supposed to go to DC for spring break and the forecast was sleet and nasty weather. So I cancelled the DC hotel, booked SW flights for the next day with points/CP and we spend 5 days in sunny WDW! :-) It is one of my favorite WDW trips. We booked on such short notice, we had no expectations for "the best" FPs or ADRs, just went with whatever we could find.

Definitely not insensitive, it came across as wry humor. Thankmgoodness everyone is ok (or will be in 6 weeks)!

Edit: I've rode plenty of ski lifts - never had a problem probably due to the fact that they are fairly close to the ground. That said, I haven't skied in a long time.
I have to deep breathe on ski lifts, I am not a fan of heights. Ski lifts with my kids are even more terrifying, they are so wiggly (the kids, not the lifts, LOL)!!!! I don't know if the gondolas would ever have been for me! Ha!

Any tips on booking an Alaska cruise? My friend who we often travel with suggested an Alaska cruise for our Aug 2020 trip (looks like we are late to the party already!). We are open to an inside passage cruise from Seattle or a 1-way to/from Vancouver. Need something kid friendly since we have 5 kids between us. open to booking tips (points usage?), kid-friendly lines, etc. Thanks!

I recently booked an Alaskan Cruise for June 2020. Decided on Princess. Going out of Anchorage and coming back from Vancouver. I used Delta points for the flights. I also had a bunch of MR points that I did not know what I would use them for - don't fly international. So, I went to the AMEX site and got Carnival Corp Gift Cards at a 1:1 rate. These Gift Cards are good for any Cruise Line that Carnival Corp owns. So, I was able to pay for the cruise with these gift cards.

Your wife sounds like my kind of people. 8-) So glad she’s ok, and the kids too. I’m sure it will make a great story to tell at parties. Lol

Finally all caught up! My CIP came Monday, so I now have a big MSR to work on. Still also have $700 left on my Amex Bonvoy biz but trying to spread that one out over my 3 months.

Not so much a fan of Reese’s anymore after trying the Trader Joes’s Peanut butter cups!!! They are awesome! Also, the Dove chocolate peanut butter candies are excellent. Just bought some yesterday since my nearest TJ’s is an hour drive.

The whole Skyliner incident is disappointing. DD and I have a stay at Pop coming up in November and I was really looking forward to making use of it. Maybe we still will if it’s open then. Maybe not. We’ll have to think about that. This will be my first trip there ever without having a car available.

I want to say that if you aren't afraid of heights, and if the skyliner is open, ride it. November is not hot, more like 80ties in the day time, and I should clarify that my fear of heights is going to keep me away, but just like an airplane, if it's necessary for me to ride, the safety of the ride would not be a concern for me. The inconvenience of getting stopped for 3 and 1/2 hours might be, but I don't think that will be the norm going forward or even likely to happen occasionally. My takeaway from all my reading is that - and this is just my opinion - that human error played a big part, with basically inexperienced personnel operating the gondolas and that possibly when the system glitched (fail safe mode) someone over rode the system to start it up again, causing the low speed crunch of the cars at Riviera - just my hunch, not fact, not supported by any documentation. And just from reading that the blue gondola had stopped and then the others crushed into it.

3 weeks ago I shared a comment all about the Southwest Companion Pass (SW CP) on DISchurners entitled: A Fireside Chat with SouthFayetteFan on the Southwest Companion Pass

If you didn't have a chance to read it and you are pursuing a 2020/2021 companion pass (or even are mildly interested in the CP), I recommend taking a look:
Within that comment I share that my recommended CP strategy is 2 biz cards founded a little bit in paranoia but perhaps also a logical argument around the 1 SW card rule.

I am sharing this again today because I feel strongly that Thursday or Friday is the absolute safe zone to apply for your first SW card in pursuit of the 2020/2021 CP. Some people have already applied and that is fine, but if you were waiting to give yourself some buffer, 10/10 and beyond should be a good date with little stress around how to make it all work.

Additionally you want to note that Ads have been circulating on the Southwest Performance Business Card 80,000 Point Bonus stating that this offer ends on 10/16/2019 (next Wednesday). Nobody truly knows what will happen with this bonus after that date but there is certainly a risk that it will decrease and 80,000 SW points from one bonus is a phenomenal deal. The 80,000 point offer is NOT available via support link so you aren't able to cross-support or self-support and there is no need to check DISchurners on that one. However, when you pursue your 2nd card (likely in Dec or Jan for most people) there is probably a chance to pay it forward with some support on that one.

Good luck to all pursuing a CP. If you are interested in some specific guidance on this, don't hesitate to drop me a PM here on the DIS.

EDIT: There are now 5 SW cards (3 personal and 2 Biz) with various bonuses and rules across each so if you haven't been keeping up with CP news recently then it's important to develop a strategy before you pull the trigger on the first card. Things have changed a lot over the past 12+ months there.
wwyd? not sure if I should have P2 go for the big biz offer before next week...not for the CP but just for the points..... this is literally just FOMO before bonus goes away..... but I can always use more of those points..... and I think he's 4/24 right now....
-----ETA------- no. silly me. I'd rather have 80k UR than 80k swa. Stay the course and quit having FOMO! (spoken to myself) :rotfl:

I think I've seen this discussed before, how many times do you need to use a SW CP for it to be "worth it"?
I used to travel once a year using it to (4 people) and felt it was valuable just for that. Now we use it 3-4 times a year, and it's invaluable! We always grab it asap after Jan 1,so we can book away...but I've also advised people that it's valuable for 1.5 years,or even just one year if it fits their plans..... I just think it's the biggest no brainer in all of travel,if SWA flights work for you!

Funny, never had an issue with chair lifts but then a lot of my anxiety has developed in later years. When my anxieties pop up - crossing the 4 and 1/2 mile bay bridge, going DOWN mountain roads, etc, my kids and family tell me I need to go see someone. I practice avoidance.

My takeaway from all my reading is that - and this is just my opinion - that human error played a big part, with basically inexperienced personnel operating the gondolas
This is what I’m thinking too. They keep saying that CMs received more than the average amount of training, but no hours of training could prepare them for max capacity operations.

I am a researcher by profession, so I run through statistical probabilities to calm myself and convince myself I'll be safe. I'm such a nerd!

If you fly Southwest regularly and your pacing allows for a card now I would absolutely grab the SW performance biz now. The 80k offer is excellent, and provides great value and obviously is reportedly going away. And then I’d make sure to delay the bonus to post in Jan even if CP isn’t on somebody’s radar right now. It would provide the opportunity to earn the CP at any time in 2020 then if it becomes a good strategy.

I just don’t think anybody will regret getting that card and 80k SW points.

Try adding DVC to that mix and grocery delivery for breakfast stuff.

Hmmmmm... maybe we need more MR points! I just burned through our balance during the Delta promo last month.

oh this was SO me back when I used to ski with my family...... I used to get anxiety building up... 'we're gonna drop,we're gonna freeze to death b/c we stopped, this is too high, someones gonna fall out and die'..... I quit skiing b/c of the stress....

Chase UR experiences portal isn't working for me..... anyone else? I see an experience that I want to learn more about.... this is my first time looking in this direction
