I thought the travel credit had been switched to calendar year (no longer anniversary year). My AF just posted this month and the website says my travel credit will reset after my December statement. Am I missing something?
Calendar year is for people who opened one prior to the switch to anniversary year in 2017. I opened mine Apr 2018 and it's definitely anniversary year.

Is yours prior to the change in 2017 or did you do a PC? If you PCd your AF and anniversary may be different I think.

I'm in a similar situation. My dh works for an airline. We've had a relatively easy time flying standby. I've started earning some AA points to use if we're flying during a busy time. AA and Alaska are partners and AA points are ridiculously easy to get. I would also look at cards that you can transfer points to Delta or Alaska. I find the airline co-branded cards to be pretty worthless once you've get your SUB. If you're looking for a high point yielding card to use every day I would look at one of the Amex cards that earn MR's. Those MR's can be transferred to Delta.
Just to add it's still going to be hard to use points for last minute flights.
Thank you:) Yes, that's our biggest obstacle. We can't plan longer than 2 weeks out, ever!

anyone else get the Amex 35% back at office supply stores offer? We only got it on dh’s BBP but he also had the Staples $25 back on $100 purchase. I assume these will stack?

Would be nice if they stack! Let us know. I'm wanting that offer! Going to check see if they did another driveby on my account...

Thanks -- I did open it before 2017. I guess anniversary year makes it harder to triple-dip the travel credit.

There is an Interesting comment on r/churning regarding how a bank may apply a payment against a cash advance when subsequent charges come later in the month.

This might be worth perusing to anybody who is doing bank account funding with CCs. In the event you ever unexpectedly find yourself with a Cash Advance that posted... Otherwise, this probably doesn't mean much to most people.

A brief commercial on DISchurners...
Recently there has been an uptick in requests to join DISchurners - which comes as no surprise given our recent announcement that we would like to keep some information and discussion over there regarding certain cards. I figured the timing was right for a little update post:

What is DISchurners?
DISchurners is a private Reddit group that includes a lot of churning related information information. Perhaps just as important, it gives you an opportunity to support other DISers when you sign-up for cards which is an excellent way to give back to our awesome community!

Who can join DISchurners?
The group is open to anybody who finds us here on the DIS thread. You MUST be a verified DISboards member. This is an important note because if you've never made a comment on the DIS, I cannot verify you. So come out of lurkdom - say hello, or thank you - we won't bite!

How do I join?
You'll need a reddit account. IF you don't have one, you can easily register - most people use the same name or a similar name as they do here. Then you can simply send me a PM right here on the DIS and I'll get you setup.

In Closing... if you haven't joined and you're signing up for cards, you are potentially missing an opportunity to give back to the community. And at the very least, you are missing out on a valuable churning resource.
I just joined reddit, user name is jbluemaxie24. Can I be added to DISchurners please? Thank you:)

DD1 just applied for her first card. No instant approval so I called the 800 number. She is getting the 7 to 10 day message. Does that for sure mean a denial? Or since it's her first ever card, possibly just needing to verify information or something?

She received the southwest mailer offering 60,000 points with $6,000 spend over 6 months. She used her special offer code to apply. She is currently not making a bunch (I believe she put $34,880 as her yearly income), but she has a great credit score (800+). I'm hoping she doesn't get flat out denied, she'd really be discouraged.
Unfortunately, it seems for a cobranded card , they want to see some more credit history than being and AU. My DD got denied for a Marriott card (from a mailer sent to her) and had had her own credit union Visa and a Discover for almost a year. At one year of having that card, she was approved for a Freedom. She hasn't tried again for a cobranded card...but soon!

As some of you may know I started churning in May 2018 to save for a WDW trip in April 2020. Hard to believe that trip is now booked! And I will soon have to part with my URs. So since Disney is no longer on the portal I've been trying to figure out the best way to pay with my URs. I figured cashing out to buy discounted Disney gift cards would be my best bet. I'm still looking to grab a few more cards and I came up with this plan.
I'd like about $6000 in Disney gift cards, so...
if I apply for a Chase Ink Cash and buy $3000 worth of Disney gift cards at Staples. I'd get $650 back between the 5% and the SUB.
So it would basically cost me $2350 for $3000 in DGCs
Then I would have DH sign up for a CIU and again buy $3000 worth of Disney gift cards getting back $545 between the 1.5% and the SUB.
making the cost for $3000 in DGC = $2455
Add those together and I have $6000 worth of Disney gift cards that cost $4,805 - which is about a 20% savings right?
I would then plan to use my existing URs to pay the balance on the cards or maybe better to get a check and deposit it and pay it off from a bank account.
I just came up with this idea and would love to hear some thoughts on it. Am I missing anything obvious (or not so obvious) that would make this not work?
Thanks as always!!!

ETA: I just realized for the CIU spend we could even buy at BJs for a bit more of a discount!

Have most people here done the MDD when going for those cards? I am working on convincing my husband he won’t be thrown in that bank’s jail if I do this :rotfl2:He has 1 biz card from said bank and I’d be putting 3 months between apps.

Also Amex- we have different definitions of 3 business days! Where the fork is my Gold?!

I just want to make sure that before you pull the trigger on CIC and CIU cards that you've read the information available here:
A different strategy might make more sense and you could leave those CIC/CIU cards for later on down the line... if you want more guidance on this feel free to PM me or ask questions over on the DISchurners thread.

I personally have not seen any negative repercussions from anybody doing a MDD. I also can confirm that the banks do not actually have a jail. He might be confusing the vault for a jail cell :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: (They don't lock people in there - at least not at my bank)

I used to only like sweet milk chocolate, until life forced me to completely overhaul my diet a few years back..... now I have no taste for overly sweet stuff. A tiny square of dark chocolate is enough to satisfy my chocolate needs,so much flavor! As far as peanut butter cups..... my current massive weakness would be Trader Joes or Aldi DARK chocolate peanut butter cups...(or Justins brand) .....which is why I don't buy them in general b/c I just can't stop if I have them at hand..... i can't even go near Reeses anymore after trying these.....it's like comparing a Big Mac to a Filet Mignon (for me at least):mickeybar and as for honey...... oy. learn about it folks..... honey from local sources is so amazing and flavorful in so many ways!

YES! I mentioned the TJ's ones earlier (we don't have Aldi's). I can't buy them because they are just sooooo good that I keep eating them. But after trying one the Reeses ones just disappoint me.

If she can't get that card, try the CFU. My DD and other college kids on this thread were able to start with that card and very minimal (far, far less than what you listed) income.

Hi all:) I have been reading this thread off and on and I "like" some of your posts, so I wanted to introduce myself so nobody thinks I am a stalker! Our situation is quite different than most here since we currently live in Orlando, about 30 minutes from the mouse and go often. We are originally from NY (NYC & LI), but we located here since my oldest son (24) has autism and is non-verbal, BUT speaks when he is at WDW or on DCL. Disney has some type of magic with our kid and this is a pretty common phenomenon. My husband also works for an airline and travels frequently (not a pilot), so most of our trips are last minute. We try to fly stand-by, but lately flight loads are full, especially when we always need at least 2 seats together for my son. We have used points for hotel stays for years, but no where as creative or inspiring as you guys! I love reading all your adventures! We are trying to branch out and try new things and I am trying to learn from all your expertise. My other son attends UPS in Tacoma, WA and plays football for them so we try to attend games, but the flights are $$$ last minute. Alaska and Delta fly nonstop from MCO, so we're currently working on that strategy. Sorry for the long opening post!

Welcome to the thread! Glad you came out of lurkdom. How wonderful about your son and Disney! I have family members who went to UPS - I hope he's happy there.

Thanks -- I did open it before 2017. I guess anniversary year makes it harder to triple-dip the travel credit.

Yeah, only 50k UR and double dipping for us peasants who joined in too late ( :teeth: totally first world problems) They figured that one out quick. I think the CSR launched late 2016 and by mid-year 2017 they had updated it to anniversary for new applications.

DP - I received my SUB for my CIP even though I was short of the MSR by about $13. I was shocked! I knew I was close to my MSR, but still have another month to meet it, and don't have a specific use in mind so I wasn't in a huge hurry to meet it (plus working on another MSR for my DH). So all of you going for the SW CP it does actually happen, make sure not to get too close to your MSR!

American and Alaska ended their partnership last week so you can't redeem one mileage currency for flights on the other amy more.

I see what you're saying @SouthFayetteFan.
I did the math on getting a CIP and buying $6000 worth of DGC from BJs and I come up with:
1000 sub+ referral
60 1%
240 BJs discount
1300 TOTAL Discount

TOTALS spend=$4,700 for $6,000 in DGCs

ETA: sorry it posted before I was ready -
alternatively:

CIC spend $2,350.00 (for $3000 DGC)
500 sub
150 5% for office stores
650 TOTAL Discount
plus
CIU spend $2,335.00 (for $3000 DGC)
500 sub
45 1.50%
120 BJs discount
665 TOTAL Discount

TOTALS spend=$4685 for $6000 in DGC

Sorry my formatting is so bad - looked so nice in my excel sheet.
Anyone care to double check my math. I'm thinking slight edge to the CIC and CIU plan?
