Just a little churning discussion post-

Have you ever gotten a card you regretted? Or have you decided to skip getting a card and then regretted it later? What card was it and why the regret?

My husband hates talking credit cards with me, I’ll bother y’all instead :)

I only regret the cards I spent thousands in interest on when I was much, much younger (and poorer) and didn't know any better.

I regret not getting CSR for both DH and myself. Got him one with the 100k bonus but I was having trouble seeing the value with the high AF. I wish we had both gotten it and triple dipped the travel credit.

It’s not even 1 and I feel like this is the longest day ever.. Had to drop dd off to take the SAT at 7:30. Then run to Walmart, the bank, and Publix. Then drop the dog at the vet. Back to pick the dog up. Drop my son at a football team event. Ran to Costco. Picked my son up and dropped him at the library for French tutoring. Still have to pick both kids up then 3.75 hours of volunteering for dd’s swim team. The days are long but the years are short!
I'm exhausted reading your post! Dd took the SAT this morning as well. Now the waiting beings for the marks.

When is your dd getting her new car?! She must be getting excited! You can then have her drop your ds off!

I know I'm late to the party, but it's been a busy week:

1) When did you begin churning? (feel free to expound on this a little bit if you have details to share)

I signed up for a CSP in January 2018. Can't remember what sparked me to start looking into it. Started reading the original thread soon after.

2) Are you in 1 player mode or 2 player mode?

I think P2 is warming up to it. The last 2 cards have been his! Just referred him to his very first Chase card, a CIP!

3) How many cards have you gotten total? (and how many for each player if you are in 2 player mode)

P1- 4 personal 8 biz
P2 - 1 personal 2 biz
15 total (plus I've had the Disney Visa since "Day One" and the JetBlue since 2007)

4) IF APPLICABLE: What is one card you have gotten that is somewhat peculiar or not mainstream?

N/A

5) Share any other details you think might be fun about your churning efforts.

I've learned so much and have particularly enjoyed the added benefits of bank bonuses and status matching that I have learned about here.

I regret not getting a Rose Gold Amex---next time (fingers crossed) that it's offered, that's when I'm applying!
:rotfl:

Haha, I had to have it! I did not need an Amex MR fee card at the time, but the card itself drew me in. Plus I got the 50k bonus, the 20% at restaurants, $10 credit each month, the easy $100 sw gift card twice so far, plus numerous offers. Amex tells me I've cashed out $303.85 in offers. And, I was able to get Home Depot gift cards at 20% off - I know this drives some of you nuts that a person would use their MR's to buy a John Deere - you should have heard my older daughter! Cards Cash value so far = $1325.85. Next year I won't be counting a bonus.

It's paid it's way, but even so, I'm going to have to close my eyes when I pay the fee in December. I will see how my credits go for next year and we will look at it again. I haven't counted my stash of MR points that I still have in my account from the card, plus, it doesn't turn a year until end of November.

So, the 20% offer is not currently available - that knocks out $100 for a new applicant. The $100 airline credit may be useful - or not, as the case may be. But at 4MR's for groceries and restaurants, it's pretty easy to accumulate MR's with everyday spend. Despite the fee and the fact I don't like paying fees that don't give me free nights, its a keeper.

In case anyone was wondering, here are the ingredients of Brach's Candy Corn. I knew there was a reason I didn't eat them. o_O
Sugar, Corn Syrup, Confectioner's Glaze (Shellac), Salt, Cocoa Powder, Hydrogenated Palm Kernel Oil, Gelatin, Dextrose, Honey, Artificial Flavor, Sesame Oil, Yellow 6, Yellow 5, Red 3, Soy Lecithin, Blue 1, Red 40.
Honey is natural, right?

The JetBlue biz card. Barclays scared me a bit, but by the time I realized I should go for it, the elevated bonus was gone. I will be ready next time!

Talk to me about the Blue Cash Preferred... looking for a family member who likes the 6% back on groceries idea. They could refer their P2 from their Biz Plat for 15k MRs to an offer for $300 back on $1k spend, AF not waived. I'm bummed as the referral bonus on the Biz Plat was 20k MRs not too long ago but $300 on $1k spend looks like a decent offer on that card?
I have the BCP now, but I plan to downgrade back to the BCE since the annual fee just posted. I accepted a nice upgrade offer last year. I like having the 6% on groceries, but it doesn't make sense to pay the fee given our grocery spend. 3% on the free card works better for us, but it all depends on how much is usually spent on groceries.

Totally OT but did you guys see Enchanted Rose has soft opened?! https://www.wdwinfo.com/news-storie...se-at-disneys-grand-floridian-resort-and-spa/ As a Beauty and the Beast fan over the age of 21 I am SO EXCITED!!!
Yes!!! It really looks gorgeous. I can't wait to check it out in person! The ONLY thing I am hesitant about is the exterior color. I wonder if there is any truth to the "gutting" of the lobby rumor from years ago because that pale blue doesn't exactly match the pristine white.

I can’t believe they get the scores in 9 days. This is her first time. And she was telling me about the mystery 5th section that was different for everyone.

She got it last week but has 68 days until she can drive it alone. And yes I’m hoping she can help but they are like oil and water right now.

I was just looking at that card a few minutes ago. Unlike UR cards where they are both points and cash cards, this card looks to be only cash, not cash or MR's. Someone correct me if I am reading this wrong? While the 6x grocery is really tempting, I still like collecting MR's as I perceive their value to have higher potential in the long run.
I guess what I'd really like is a Chase UR card with a 6x category, lol.

Actually I have no clue about how any of this works. Last time I booked a hotel was 2 years ago and last time I flew was almost 5. My head is spinning with all these posts about manipulating stays to maximize points. I don’t even have a Marriott rewards account yet (I don’t think... I need to check)
Yeah, it takes a while to get up to speed with all the different currencies. I only know stuff about the ones I use regularly - some of this stuff is still greek to me. If you have a Bonvoy card (and didn't previously have a Marriott account) they probably assigned you a Bonvoy account number as well, since that is where the points on that card will go once you earn them.

Just talking groceries here:
I did some Math with a capital M and I figured out that at $264 in groceries a month, the BCP would clear $95.08 and the BCE would clear $95.04 in a year.

So anything over $264 a month, you would then get double return on the BCP.

I don't know. I just found it on the website yesterday and plan to take advantage of the $30 deal tomorrow, but for a nice dinner, not a gift card. I feel as if a gift card could count, but not sure.

I guess it depends on how the information on the sale is communicated.

Be careful your card isn't linked to another dining program (or delete them first). I signed up for the promotion, but had my Rose Gold linked to Dosh already. When I went out last night, I immediately got the notification from Dosh but looks like no credit from Marriott as of today.
