If DH likes the car I want to get (Honda CRV) then we can afford to just purchase it outright. It will be his car though, so it's ultimately up to him.
I love CRVs (especially the new model 2017 and newer). That's my next car after my Odyssey dies (hopefully no time in the next six years). The problem I found with Hondas is they hold their value so well that used Hondas are relatively expensive. If you found a good deal, I'd jump on it:) I hope he likes it.

Thanks! Yeah, looking at 2016/2017s on Carmax. AWD is a requirement and we both like our cars to be fully loaded as far as things like heated seats and sunroofs go. I bought the base package for my current car without any of that and I do really miss having all of that, so I won't skimp on my next car. Wouldn't mind a Toyota, but the Highlanders have gotten a little too big and are just above what I'd like to pay.

So I ask this question in the sincere hope that I will not actually need to exercise this option...

We found out yesterday that DH is going to need a new-to-us car soon due to some issues with his. We will buy used. I am hoping I will not need to get a car loan, but in the event that I do, will getting new CCs make any difference in my ability to get one (other than a couple point hit to credit score)? I've never had to get a car loan before so I wasn't sure what they look for. Obviously, credit scores are excellent.
Running of to check my BOA offers....

Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Checking for the offers I found a balance due of 2 cents!!!! Not sure if they would have hit me with a late fee - payment is due Oct 10 - but if they did I would have had to make the phone call to try and get it waived. You definitely saved me from that possibility. I use bill pay and must have entered the wrong digit. I sent them another bill pay of $3.02 even though it will go over as I want to make sure it gets entered and I'll probably take advantage of the 10/12 restaurant offer - I have 5 choices - Rosa Mexicano, Del Frisco's, Cheddars, La Madelaine & Little Ceasars.

Have you checked Carvana? Also, I spent a lot of time recently on autotrader and cargurus. Easy to sort by great deal, good deal, etc. Then they provide dealer reviews. There were some good deals but I had to expand my search to include Fredericksburg, Warrenton, etc. where prices seem to be more competitive than in Richmond.

Some of the new car financing deals are pretty low. Might be worth it to finance and put the cash in a money market or something. or put it in one of those bank bonus thingies...CRv's are 1.9 financing.

Yay for WDW discounts!
They don’t help me much since I have Gf booked on miles and 2 nights at Pop with an agent rate but it’s nice to see the deluxe resorts a little more in line with what I would pay.
I am afraid to look at the aa rate for GF on the night I booked. I booked it for fear the Disney resorts would disappear but it will be tough to see I could have saved a bunch of miles by waiting. Not going to look.

Have been away from the thread for a couple of months, so I apologize if this has been covered already. I have the old IHG card ($49 AF) from 2016. I was grandfathered in for the unlimited free anniversary night last year. So I was expecting to have a cert capped at 40,000 points this year. Just checked my IHG account and my anniversary date was Wednesday and I have another free night (unlimited/any property/no 40,000 language) in my account. Has there been a change or was it just my lucky day? Lol!

Also, if I cancel this card, I still have the free night correct? Though if they keep giving me an uncapped free night, I will keep it. TIA for all of your knowledge!

Unfortunately with the Fed dropping rates (25 more basis points likely this year and probably 50 next year) even the best MMAs are or will be under 2% again:(

my Dsis is looking to get rid of her (new to her) CRV...I think it's a 2015(?) and developed some pretty bad transmission shaking issues...which she later found out was common on her model so be careful.

Can't remember if it was mentioned, just4U offer of 10x points on Happy cards (and iTunes and a few others). For those of us in Sunoco areas, starting now you can use your points at Exxon/Mobile which you can stack with the AmEx 10% offer (Sunoco ends 10/31 if you want to get a last run in)

The last car deal I helped to make was for my son and we got it at the Honda dealer in Fredericksburg which was an hour and a half drive for us/me three times. Son saw the used car online - a Mitsubishi with 2900 miles on it - 3 years old in 2013. We ended with a really good price and the car is now 9 years old with no problems except maybe a recall and regular maintenance.

We scoured the dc/md/va area looking at new and used and this was the best in his price range at the time.

Was approved for Citi AA Biz 9/10 60k/$3k, it’s 75k/$5k MSR. Can I just message them to have it matched? Will I have to meet the higher MSR?
Matching is pretty much mentioned as dead at this point. But that’s largely related to a different loophole so it’s actually worth trying in your case. You would likely not have to meet the higher MSR.

We have an (ahem) close financial relationship with Carmax... so Carvana is a four letter word in our household haha.

I am severely allergic to new cars haha. I just can't bring myself to buy a new car and know that my value is plummeting as I drive it off the lot.

Thanks for the update! I may actually put aside my aversion to flying to do a London/Scotland/Paris/Spain/Italy excursion but not anytime soon. Even though I bought a John Deere with my MR's, I've accumulated a decent stash, so free seats are possible, and I've got Radisson points along with a big bunch of Marriott. I've noted the War rooms as something I might have interest in. I've also not yet watched Stumptown but may give it at least a onceover. MF is a sometimes thing - so many stereotypes in that show, but I guess that's part of the humor.

Sadly we didn’t make it to the Churchill War Rooms because my +*^%#}! husband didn’t listen (as usual), got directions to the main Imperial War Museum and when he found that out the only pertinent information he obtained was “it’s 20 min away” vice actually receiving directions. Since our tickets would expire by the time I strangled him and gotten accurate directions sadly no visit. I guess next time I’m in London...sigh...

ETa- no husbands were harmed in the making of this post, promise.

Have you tried booking a night that is more than 40K? I got my night in August and I didn't see any restrictions, so I tried to book a 50K hotel. It doesn't work. It will give you the 40K and below options and cash prices for the higher point values. Hope yours is different. Used my last free unrestricted night in July.

You can still get value out of the 40K cert and for $49 I wouldn't be so quick to toss it, but yes, it's yours if it's in your IHG account so you can cancel. Just be aware that it will cost $89 to get the same free night back.

I also have a serious aversion to new cars, but when we last needed to replace my car (6 years ago?) a hurricane had decimated the used car inventory in our area, and the difference between new and used was practically nothing for the cars we were looking at. Like $2000 in price difference between new and 2+ years old with 30k miles on it. So I sucked it up and bought new. Also, may not matter if your're set on Carmax, but we've done better in negotiating price when we've financed - the dealership gets a cut of the financing. Then we just pay off the loan right away (also, could be a way to take care of an MSR...)

Pohanka is very aggressive.
