Fun Midweek Exercise - How many Cards have you gotten?
Obviously yesterday I shared the exciting news of being approved for my 80th card as a churner. (This does not include the Discover card I got back in 2002 as I wasn't churning then). I'm sure we have some other VERY prolific churners, and others just starting out who are proud of their accomplishments so far. If you aren't able to answer this question - perhaps this is a good time to sign up for an Experian.com free account or CreditKarma and figure out just how many cards you have gotten!

Gotta keep that spreadsheet up to date :D :teacher: :D

Here's a list of questions to answer if you want to participate:

1) When did you begin churning? (feel free to expound on this a little bit if you have details to share)

2) Are you in 1 player mode or 2 player mode?

3) How many cards have you gotten total? (and how many for each player if you are in 2 player mode)

4) IF APPLICABLE: What is one card you have gotten that is somewhat peculiar or not mainstream?

5) Share any other details you think might be fun about your churning efforts.

1...Found this thread in May of 2018....my oldest card is a BOA which I’ve had for 30 years

2...2 players

3.....myself 36 cards...DH 11...total...47

4...Odd cards opened...LensCrafters

5...started out very slowly, regret not going for the DD last year when it was available....trying to MS a little now when Staples offers the fee free Visa cards

DH and I both had the Citi Premier Card. We really don't use at all, but still have quite a few points on his. The annual fee on his came up last month and I product changed to a Citi Rewards+ Card.

I was thinking of just transferring my points to his card and cancelling mine. Would that be bad for any reason? I'm not a huge fan of TY points. I used ours for a hotel sale that they had when we traveled to Europe and have been sitting on the rest of them. I did think the Rewards+ card seemed interesting with the round up feature. My breakfast costs $1.28 each morning, so that will get me an extra 9 points each day lol!

Anyway, would it be bad to just cancel mine? Or should I PC it like I did for DH's card?

Thanks for any advice!

1) When did you begin churning?
(feel free to expound on this a little bit if you have details to share)

DH and I each got a SW card in 2011 when we flew to DW. They had a signup kiosk in the airport and it intrigued me, so I remember checking into it when we were staying at Wyndham Bonnet Creek for the couple of weeks that we were there. We each applied for a card while we were there.

Until we were planning our trip to hawaii, we just churned the SW card every 2 years and were quite pleased with ourselves lol. When we flew to Hawaii in 2016, we each got the Alaska Air cards and started thinking about what all else we could do with credit cards.

2) Are you in 1 player mode or 2 player mode?

2 player

3) How many cards have you gotten total? (and how many for each player if you are in 2 player mode)

Definitely not the big churners that many of you are:
P1 - 12
P2 - 8

4) IF APPLICABLE: What is one card you have gotten that is somewhat peculiar or not mainstream?

Really none that I can think of other than we each got the CSR when they were offering 100,000 URs. That was probably our biggest churning victory!

5) Share any other details you think might be fun about your churning efforts.

DD1 studied abroad for the spring semester 2018 and did a program called Semester at Sea. We flew the family to San Diego where she left from and spent a week there prior to her departure. DH and I flew to Hamburg Germany in April when her semester wrapped up and stayed in Germany, Paris and London for 10 days. Churning paid for our flights as well as DD1's flight home from Europe along with all of the Europe hotels other than 2 nights which I booked through hotels.com and paid with discounted gift cards.

DD2 then studied abroad fall semester 2019 (their semester started in July and ended in November). Churning paid for her flights there and back along with DH and my round trip flights to visit her. It also paid for our hotel in Sydney for the week.

People can't believe we did both of those trips in one year, but honestly it was harder getting time off than it was paying for the trips all because of churning!

So last week when we were at BC on a room only reservation booked using a "magical" rate, the front desk said that I owed $3xx dollars for the room, due to taxes and extra adult fee. I contacted my agent and she said after an hour on the phone that it was taken care of. Before we checked out I checked with the front-desk and it showed a $1563 credit, which was the full amount of our stay. I emailed our TA again and she said she'd get with them. I haven't heard back from her yet, but now I have a $563 balance on my DGC, which really should be $0. I'm thinking the other $1000 is probably on another DGC somewhere, although I'm fairly certain I've checked all the cards they could be and the balance isn't there. So, I guess I'll just hang out with my extra $563 and assume eventually it'll get taken care of. Not sure how this got so screwed up! I'm glad I normally book on DVC points!

Quoting myself, I just heard back from my TA, she said if it's in my advantage (it is), just keep it!
:scared1:

Not sure what to do, transfer it off of the card or just leave it for now, knowing eventually it might get taken back? And also, where's the other $1,000? I was mainly worried that the agency might be out the money, but if there's no risk if that then don't worry about it any celebrate?:banana::banana:

January 2017

1 player

19

They're all peculiar to my family and friends, except you guys!

I don't know about fun, but it seems funny to have a binder full of cards.

I'm happy to report that Plastiq reimbursed me for the cash advance fee BoA charged on a tax payment. It stinks that I lost out on the cc points which would have negated Plastiq's payment fee (the reason I used that card in the first place), but at least I got the bank fee back.

I posted this a few weeks ago:
Update on my World of Hyatt Free Night. Card opened on 7/7/2018, AF charged 8/1/2019. Free night has exp of Sep 5, 2020. I am sure it was not in my account on Sept 5, but whatever. So about 60 days from opening anniversary, about 8 weeks to post because I swear I looked yesterday.

That is for the newer World of Hyatt CC. @Judique has the older Hyatt CC and hers came immediately. They told me to expect 10 weeks when I asked.

ETA @pillow applied not long after I did. Did you get your night yet?

That's so weird. I'm planning on getting that card in addition to the one I have next year, so as to have 2 free nights. I'm sitting in my Ocean City Hyatt right now. I was upgraded to an ocean front room, and when I got to the room, I went straight to the balcony to check out my view. On my return I noticed a nice card and snack plate with fruit, chocolate, and salt water taffy! The card addressed me by name, so no mistaken identity, lol. This is the kind of treatment I used to get at SPG, before the merger - acknowledgement! The staff here continues to be outstanding in their friendliness. Makes you feel happy to be here! Plus breakfast this morning was very good.

In other news I started the week at Courtyard Marriott. My check in started with 'you have been upgraded'. No, I wasn't upgraded. I booked a ground floor ocean front room. I got a ground floor ocean front handicapped room. (It was fine - this one had a normal height shower in addition to a hand held one.) This was just one night and I enjoyed my stay, except - the room was on the end and people kept going outside and then the outside door would clunk, all evening. That was my upgrade. I'll know for next time. I'll return because the price is right especially with extra offers, and the hotel itself is nice.

I then moved to Residence Inn. Very nice hotel. Again, 'you have been upgraded'. As far as I can tell I got the room I booked. Normal room and as expected. Very quiet, no door clunking. Excellent front desk assistant. Just, I'm not feeling this 'you have been upgraded' thing. It was the same line at the hotel in Chincoteague in July, where I eventually did get an upgrade after complaining about the first two rooms.

Anyway, I'm glad I'm ending at Hyatt. I hopped around hotels to take advantage of Amex offers, and other deals and since I'm by myself, it worked fine.

That’s fantastic! I have heard about the Semester at Sea. My older DD looked into to, but she ended up doing the DCP instead. So wonderful that two of your kids were able to take advantage of such great opportunities. I hope that our son may try to study abroad.

Maybe PC to a Double Cash card? That makes it a no AF 2% cash back earner and you don't lose the age that it gives your credit report. DC can also now transfer 1:1 to TYP, but unless you have a Premier or Prestige, those TYPs don't transfer to many partners. Just don't use it to pay for anything that you want an extended warranty on!

:wave2:from DTW skyclub! Today is taco day and in true vacation fashion I’m consuming my weight in guacamole :)
We’re flying to LHR and Friday the dispodcast ABD begins. I’m horrible at reporting on my phone but plan to give a brief synopsis when I return.

Anyway, happy churning for the next two weeks!

Enjoy the guac! Safe travels! I can't wait to hear about the podcast trip! :wave2:

HAHA I love it! I did mine immediately too. I would hope the old card isn't deactivated as well. I will try using my old one to see what happens once the new one arrives and is activated. I only use mine now for Chase offers, WDW room/event discounts (if applicable), and the occasional character spot meet. LOL

Those are the only real uses.
I used to always call them cattle dogs but have gotten into the habit of red heelers because BIL/his SO will correct you  I'm just like... it's the same... lol
Sometimes people around here adamantly call them ACDs. 🤷🏼‍♀️
So this is the 5th year I've done a health screen at work. The first year I did off site and had bloodwork sent in, but every other year I've done the setup at work, with the finger prick and the little tabletop machine that reads everything in a few minutes.

There's history of high blood pressure and high cholesterol on my dad's side. So I've been happy that every year those have been good numbers... except last year because I went an hour after eating pizza for lunch, and my cholesterol was high :upsidedow but my good cholesterol was still in the good range.

So this morning my good cholesterol reading was so low it didn't even register. And the nurse told me about how you can't really do anything to raise your good cholesterol level, you're just born with it.

So if I've been in the good range for 4 years straight, where did it go??? 🤷‍♀️
Have you lost weight recently? Usually weight loss or malnutrition drive it down. Certain birth control pills can also lower HDL and raise LDL (the bad stuff)
yes but....(I know I'm late here as usual) you can't compare a three hour sport event or quick trip to six flags with a week at Disney in terms of pricing...we all know this! Most people are visiting with the whole family, for multiple days, and that's the killer for pricing.
Yes, that’s true but having an option to bring food/snacks can really help save. We never have a sit down meal for breakfast at WDW. We pack cereal, bowls and spoons and buy a quart of milk at the resort. Could easily save hundreds over a weeklong stay.
speaking of O/T subjects..... :rotfl: my Mom has been driving our whole family CRAZY with her unbelievably long and loud text ringtone.... it's Moana's "How Far I'll Go"....and EVERY text is like 1/2 the song...... I thought I loved Moana music until our June trip together, and she refuses to silence it...keep in mind, this is for the approximately 1 million texts she gets in a day, not phone calls!
My text tone is a minion laughing. Also gets funny looks. But working a hospital, I can’t have a beep or buzz as all the monitors constantly going off would be confused with my phone. I’d never hear it.

If any of you like young adult fantasy I just read one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. It’s called Reign the Earth by AC Gaughen. It was extremely good. I read it in one day

Thanks for the rec! Just added to my goodreads To Read list.

I just finished another book by the same author as Behind Closed Doors that I recommended last week. This was called The Breakdown. It was even better than the first. I really like this author. Same psychological thriller genre. I couldn’t stop listening.

I’m up to 29 books so far this year. Way behind my goal and usual total of around 50.

thanks! Unfortunately my anniversary is 1/30 and I was hoping to use it for a hotel room on 2/17, so that won’t work lol. No big deal though, I figured I’d be out of luck. I’ve been toying with MSing with that card, but there aren’t any good categories. At least even though I’m paying the fees on VGC at Kroger for my Hilton Surpass, I am earning 6x Hilton points for grocery.

Sounds just like my last Marriott “upgrade”. :confused3

This is more crazy than my random $261 charge over week after I got home that didn’t even match my reservation number and when I called mysteriously turned into a $12 charge. Disney’s billing dept is on par with their IT dept.

:offtopic:
Do a google search for Ross Gellar, click the couch, then click it 3 more times. You need sound.

Go ahead and do all the characters, though I think Phoebe Buffay is best lol Ross is the only one that needs extra clicks though.

To bring this CC related, as soon as my daughter showed me I knew I had to share with the Friends lovers here. Things that make me think of my CC friends lol
