Cancelled Disney Magic 5 Night Western Europe From Dover 13 September 2020

I would gladly be here and post and ask here on Diaboards. The dark side!? 😆😆😆

Well, one of the thingsI loved with my last cruise and what I miss with the other cruise line I’ve used is the «dark side» cruise groups. I am not interested in FE and lugging presents with me after the cruise and me and my partner (Thomas) are unfortunately not very dress up people either although I love people that do dress up or Disneybound (was this the term?). But I liked the fact you’d find people to do non-disney excursions with. And just having trivia etc while the cruise seems so far away.

If you are from Dublin then you need to know that we loved your city ( also Howth) when we were visiting couple of years ago. We also began to appreciate Guiness on that trip 😀

Thank you for starting the thread here!

Thats ok, everyone is different. Im here on Dis almost every day, and I plan to keep this thread active, and hopefully we will find some more cruise mates here on Dis over the next few months :)

As its my first cruise ever, Im just excited to experience everything for the first time. I cant wait to have a go at the various ship activities. I travel alot solo, so I'm fine sight seeing on my own in the ports.

In my day to day life I dont get to dress Disney and I tend to dress on the conservative side, so when I go to Disney parks its a chance for me dress up . I Disney Bound in the parks and I'm planning to Disney Bound on the cruise too, but only on the ship. When I go sightseeing in the ports I will be wearing my usual jeans and hoodie :)

awww thanks, its been a few years since I was in Howth, I live in the the other side of the city

I just came across some interesting information. On the 2019 11 Norwegian Fjords Cruise from Dover there was an overnight in Reykjavik. The MDR that night were Open Seating. Lumiere’s was open from 6pm to 8.30pm, Rapunzel’s Royal Table from 6.30pm to 9 pm , and Cabanas from 9pm to 12 midnight. As we have an over night in Le Harve, its very likely we will have the same Open Seating for dinner that night.

I was also thinking - what about dinner on Le Havre day? But you can be right. I only hope we’d have the chance to dine with the same server team on that night too (if we like them of course). And I hope everyone on the ship gets to experience the Rapunzel Royal Table with the entertainment there at least once. 😊

according the Reykjavik Navigator the menu that night in all 3 restaurants was Land and Sea. This is the 2017 Wonder. There is a trip report from the 2019 Norwegian Fjords Cruise being written at the moment here on Dis, the next part they will post is about the Reykjavik days, so hopefully we will have an idea of what to expect Land-Sea-Dinner-Menu-Wonder-May-2017-768x521.jpg Land and Sea Menu posted here https://disneycruiselineblog.com/wp...d-Sea-Dinner-Menu-Wonder-May-2017-768x521.jpg

Transatlantic Flights or in other words how the heck to I get to Europe 🤔

The cheapest airline from USA to Europe is Norwegian Airlines. HOWEVER please research this airline and its routes thoroughly. It has a similar operating system to Southwest, with various ticket price levels, and where various parts of the flying experience, such as checked luggage, in flight food and entertainment etc are priced separately. They fly only on specific days from a select number of USA airports.

Dont just research USA based airlines. There are a huge number of European airlines which fly the same routes as USA based airlines and their prices may be cheaper than USA based airlines. I always use www.skyscanner.com which is flight comparison website to research routes and prices

As an aside.....

We took Norwegian to Rome - booked through DCL for our recent Rome 8 night cruise. Seating was a tad cramped, but the service was good. Only thing I missed was having Direct TV - they had videos & TV shows - but they weren't the best.

The DCL price included a dinner & a snack - plus luggage. It was around $900 round trip. If I had booked it myself - it would have been $1500.

I had to choose that airline because I wasn't into multiple stops. It was the only airline that flew non-stop into Rome from NY\NJ.

Good luck to all planning :)

Interesting concept "Disney Bounding" Have not heard the term before but researched it. I have learned so much from you! Really have to give packing some re-thinking now. :ssst:
Whats weather been like in Dublin?
Only 2 weeks and 4 days away from first DC on Magic. :tigger:

aww thanks, and best of luck with the packing :)

Weather here in Dublin is turning from the warm summer to cooler Autumn. This week I've started wearing my hoodie to work, where as a few weeks ago I was just wearing light cardigans. Layers are defiantly needed, as the morning can be cool but the afternoon warm. Also its been raining A LOT this August, it could be dry and sunny for hours then suddenly it gets dark with very heavy showers which last about 20 minutes and then its dry again. I always have an umbrella in my bag when I'm out and about.

Short update, this week's cruise shopping a suction cup shower tray for the shower in the staterooms. A number of trip reports and cruise websites suggested this as the shower s don't have shelves. I looked at a few photos of the showers in the staterooms and decided to buy a shower tray. I looked on Amazon and there are lots of inexpensive ones, so I found this plastic pink one for around €7, I didn't like the generic metal ones

And then after work one day I wandered in The Disney Store and found this little guy. It's a Porg on your shoulder, I saw people with them in Galaxy's Edge but they were all sold out. I have a Rey Disney Bounding outfit so he will be coming with me when I go back to Disneyland and Galaxy's Edge on June and for the cruise.

I have been following the personal navigators for summer 2019 Magic European cruises.

We have an overnight in Le Harve.
So far this summer there have been 2 over nights, 1 at Reykjavik on the Norwegian Fjords Cruise and 1 at St Petersburg on the Copenhagen to Dover cruise. On both of these overnights, there was Open Seating dining in Rapunzels and Lumieres MDR and Animators was closed. The menu in both restaurants was the Land and Sea menu. Both restaurants were open from 6pm to 9pm Cabanas was open 4.45pm to 7.45pm and 10pm to 11.30pm

It is very likely that our overnight in Le Harve will be the same.

So this is how I think our MDR will be

Dover Departure
Let The Magic Begin - All 3 restaurants

Amsterdam Departure
Lumiere’s: Lumiere’s
Animator’s Palate: Animators Palate
Rapunzel’s Royal Table: Rapunzel’s Royal Table – Thug

Zebrugge / Bruges Departure
Lumiere’s: Lumiere’s
Animator’s Palate: Animators Palate
Rapunzel’s Royal Table: Rapunzel’s Royal Table – Thug

Le Harve Overnight
Land and Sea in Rapunzel and Lumiere's

Le Harve Departure
Lumiere’s: Lumiere’s
Animator’s Palate: Animators Palate
Rapunzel’s Royal Table: Rapunzel’s Royal Table – Thug

Good work!
I think it looks like in Le Havre (the spelling! 🤓)the menu in Rapunzel’s will be the lantern menu as Thug is according to the page you linked to offered only sailings that are 7 days or longer.

Ah ok, I missed that. Hopefully we will have the Snuggly Duckling takeover in O'Gills one night

I know there are may repeat cruisers here on Dis but I'm sure also there are many first time cruisers and people thinking of a first Disney cruise. So I decided to post what I have learned in my cruise research about Disney Cruise Line Rotational Dining.

Disney Cruise Line Dining and Restaurants 101

The 3 main restaurants are usually abbreviated to MDR
The rotational dining is a unique to Disney Cruise Line experience
You can request a private table just for your party. This can be done in advance by contacting Disney Cruise Line. You can also request a private table just for your party when you first board the ship. Just remember this is a request and is not a guarantee you will get a private table just for your party.

When you check in at the departure port you will be given your dining room assignment.
  1. On your first night restaurant you will be assigned a server team.
  2. On night 2 you will eat in the second restaurant on your dining room assignment. You will have the same server team and be seated at the same table number as on night 1
  3. On night 3 you will eat in the third restaurant on your dining room assignment. You will have the same server team and be seated at the same table number as on previous nights.
  4. On night 4 you will rotate back to a one of the other restaurants. You will have the same server team and be seated at the same table number as on previous nights.
  5. Depending on the length of your cruise, you will eat in some restaurants multiple times and some restaurants only once.
Each of the MDR restaurants are themed and have a unique dining experience. Each of the restaurants has its own specific menu. Our cruise is on The Magic ship and the 3 themed restaurants are
  1. Lumiere's - Beauty and The Beast French Fine Dining
  2. Animators Palate - Disney Animation Fine Dining
  3. Rapunzel's Royal Table- Tangled / Rapunzel Italian Fine Dining
Disney Cruise Line always a themed night. On this cruise, as we will be in Northern Europe, most likely it will be Frozen Theme Night. On the themed night, all 3 restaurants will serve the same menu and food. There may be other nights on our cruise when the 3 restaurants will serve the same menu and food such as the first night or the last night. On our overnight in Le Harve, most likely they will serve the Land and Sea menu in the MDR.

You can choose not eat in the MDR on any night of your cruise. If you know in advance you will not be eating in that nights assigned restaurant, make sure to let your server team know, so that they do not delay the food service for your table mates. The quick service and Cabana's buffet restaurants serve food in the evening time as well, so you will not go hungry if you choose to skip the MDR.

This could be for any reason such as
  • late back from an excursion and you miss your assigned dining time
  • you don't want to sit with your assigned table mates
  • you have booked the upcharge adult restaurants Palo
  • you are participating in onboard activities or events
  • you don't like the food served in that particular restaurant

Any suggestions for Le Havre? I am not seeing much here on disboards.

waves hi, are you on this cruise, so that I can add you to the cruisers list in post 1 :)

For Le Harve, many people do the Normandy Beaches.
This is a list of previous Disney Port Excursions for Le Harve. Disney have not posted any of these yet on the official cruise port adventures page, so just use this as a guide to what MIGHT be available.

My plan for Le Harve is DIY. I will probably only spend a few hours ashore and just go to the shopping district of Le Harve.

BPTink, :wave2: Currently undecided about which cruise next summer but looking at trip reports and excursions
We like to DIY but this port may be too far away from Paris or Normandy for DYI's
Have been reading your updates and appreciate all of the info.
Will Hurricane Lorenzo be bothering you tomorrow? :worried:

aww thanks.

I've been to Paris and multiple times to Disneyland Paris and I'm not really interested in Normandy.

However, as we have an overnight in Le Harve, if I wanted to do Paris, I would be seriously thinking about an overnight in a hotel. At an overnight port, do you have to get back to the ship for the overnight, that would be something I would as Disney Cruise direct.

Paris is a bit far for a day trip but again as its an overnight port, you can get back late and you will be fine.

Not sure yet about Hurricane Lorenzo. The south west of Ireland will get hit worst, Im in the east. But by the time it reaches us it will be downgraded to a tropical storm as the Atlantic Ocean temperature is alot cooler around our coast. The met office have given an orange weather warning for the west of the country and a yellow weather warning for the east, so hopefully it shouldn't be that bad.

Interest would be in the D Day beaches and maybe sharing a van with other cruisers for an excursion there to keep cost down. Maybe others would be interested.
Lots to consider. I read other sites where cruisers actually stayed in Paris or in Bayeux overnight rather than return to the ship. I guess a question for DCL.
Looking forward to future posts. :thumbsup2

London Update
At Christmas I will be in London for 3 nights. I do this most years, I stay with my sister in the West of England for Christmas Day and then take the train from where she lives to London for a few days , then fly back to Ireland.

When I stay in London, I book hotels direct and either stay in Travelodge or Comfort Inn. In London these chains are proper hotels, with inside corridors, not motels like in USA.

I check the hotel websites and book whichever works out cheaper for my days. I know London very well as I used to live there, so I know which areas are good areas. Any hotel I choose has to be less than 5 minutes walk from a Tube Station.

I have booked a Travelodge for this years Christmas visit and have paid £238 for 3 nights, non refundable, double room, no breakfast, no WiFi. The rate is prepaid, so I have paid the full amount now. I always get the basic rate with no breakfast where possible in London, as I prefer to go to a local Starbucks or similar type coffee chain for breakfast.

I will book my train ticket from my sisters town to London in a few weeks. Usually the best prices for trains in England is 12 weeks before departure.
