I don't think you can book UA with MRs (or at least I haven't come across a way) but I don't consider myself an expert. If you want to use MRs you might want to check out who their partners are, unless you are set on flying United.

I definitely don't think we are immune here, but I think it's far less common to have that sort of issue here. It's most likely because of the weather. Ants, on the other hand, have invaded once or twice when it started pouring outside.

A question for anyone in a position to hire employees - do you care what undergraduate school they went to?

To make this cc related, other than schools that accept CC payments directly without additional fees, what methods are good for paying schools?

In my field, the big firms recruit at certain schools, so if that was the goal, its a lot easier to get "seen" if you go to one of those schools. On the other hand, there are plenty of people who got their degree elsewhere who have very successful careers - other than getting the first job, it really doesn't matter. There are a couple of programs around where I have met people who really didn't know anything they should know, despite having a degree (sometimes a masters!) in the field. I would not hire a new grad from one of those schools. I'm generally hiring people with at least 3-4 years of experience, so school is not much of a factor (but 3-4 years of experience in a big national or regional firm really helps a resume get my attention).

In all my years of living in the south, we never completely stopped seeing cockroaches. They are very difficult to get rid of in their entirety - they can survive on drops of water and almost zero food. If you have an infestation you know it, but if you don't have an infestation you will basically always have a few here and there. The really large cockroaches are looking for water. However, if you pay for pest control, you might as well call them and see what they say.

And I did forget something relevant for our Delta Hostages! I got my own bag at MCO and watched the clock. My suitcase was about 25 mins from arrival to scanned onto the bag belt. DL guarantees 20 minute delivery so I filed my paperwork for 2500 Delta miles while on the Magical Express. My claim was instantly approved and the 2500 points posted to my account a few minutes later. I also realized even if you let Magical Express get your suitcase you should check the bag tracking in the Delta App to see if you should file since it’s not an in-person thing and is all done by computer tracking. Thank you so much!!!! I actually found a saver from IAD (Econ)-LAX (Biz)-SYD for 80k. I don’t see any return flights in Biz but there are plenty in ECON SAVERS for 40k.

Now for the international pros- is there a way to book via MRs or do I need to use my URs? It will be sad to deplete my URs but it is $18k in flights for 240k URs.

For anyone who knows about cockroaches:

We pay for a pest control company and they focus on the outside of our house with spraying and a centricon system. We’ve seen two small cockroaches in our master bath and Dh found a cockroach in our pantry today. I’m assuming I should call them about this but I’m wondering if it’s normal to get a couple here and there in the south or if I should be more worried. I see them in our garage too

Nothing wrong with having a pest control address the issue but I would ask what kind of treatment they are doing. If it's not an infestation, I wouldn't be too quick to have pesticides applied inside your home. Over the years the use of pesticides is more scrutinized then it used to be (when they used to come into your home or a food establishment and set off "bombs", containing chemicals that can be detrimental to your health) but I would still ask about what they are applying and mention you have pets. (Deal with this with my job as a health inspector). Good Luck!

Yes, but it is complicated. I think you can use MRs to book award travel through Air Canada, ANA, or Singapore on United flights, but you can't necessarily see the same availability or rates as through the direct UA mileage plus portal. Also, all three of those airlines tend to charge higher fees for international award tix. Sorry!

Depends on what you book. There are so many different fees based on what type of award you book and what type of change/cancellation you are trying to do. If he gets jury duty notice for your vacay time can he put in to postpone? CA lets you do that once each time you’re called and you can pick your date over like the next 3 months.

Thanks, it’s a little more complicated than that. He got a notice for jury duty for 10/2. Can’t do that due to work conflict. He went online and put a request for 2 month extension. The paper said he could postpone between 2-6 months. Called a few days later to confirm and found out it’s grand jury nd lasts for 3 months. So the next one isn’t until January. So if he gets picked it could last January - March....l so he asked if he could postpone for 6 months instead of 2 and they said no. Even though he had just put in his request online the day before. So, now I am a bit apprehensive to plan anything during those three months. And we can’t vacation April - October due to our work schedule. Luckily I have a trip booked with DVC points for March which I was going to keep until I knew for sure if we were doing anything else. At least that I can cancel up to 31 days before and get my points back.

Our property xaxes are due in late October / early November; well in excess of the $5,000.00, but the county charges a 2.5% fee on cc payments. I was thinking that I could meet the MSR on an AmEx platinum to cover the tax payment (I checked and they accept Visa, MC and AmEx). Actually I am pondering if I should try to get a 100,000 platicorn MR offer -- never tried before and I'm not going to try until I am ready.
