Magic light card?

Does anyone know if you need a light card on the Magic? Last post I could find was in September 2018 and they said no but when I called Disney they said yes.

No, the better ships, the Classics, do not need a light card. Only those newer ones need one.

We can confirm from our July sailing that no light cards are needed on the Magic.

I’m curious what you like better on the classic ships? We have been on most of the Disney ships and I love them all.

Based on 15 DCL cruises across all 4 ships at least twice, first off, the classic ships have the best variety of itineraries, with Disney Magic spending the summer in Europe, while Disney Wonder has Alaska and the West Coast, so that is why Disney Magic just edges out Disney Wonder for best. The newer ships are stuck in the way too short Bahamas milk runs on Disney Dream or the alternating Caribbean rut on Disney Fantasy. The classic ships are smaller which means fewer passengers and a less crowded feeling, even intimate. The newer ships have 60% more passengers, but they did not expand the common spaces on the larger ships in the same proportion, so it is crowded feeling all of the time, and Disney Dream even more so due to the large number of first-time cruises, who will do things like stop in major thoroughfares or coming off of elevators trying to figure out where they are going. The classic ships have more senior CMs, so the level of guest service is higher. And since Disney Dream only really does 3 and 4-night cruises, those CMs never seem to get invested in the guests as they know they will be leaving in a few days, and most of the guests are running around trying to cram everything into a 3 or 4-night trip.
