Stay Strong SEPTEMBER WISH Challenge

I love this group. It's part of my morning routine before work. I get up, do my workout, make my shake, say goodbye to husband, son & daughter, then visit this group as part of my quiet time to help focus my day. And it is much needed today as I ended my day upset. Yesterday was a day of last minute changes that really messed me up. As a major planner, changes in plans really mess with me, not only in accomplishing all the items on the schedule, but also mess with my emotional state. I get so upset when I worked really hard to find ways to make everything work and then at the last minute schedules change. I usually plan my week out on Sundays. When I meal plan, I look at the different actives each night and try to pick something that will fit in the allotted time for dinner. So changes in schedule, also mess with my meals. And my husband & kids don't really understand how much thought goes into making everything work. So that always hurts my feelings because I feel like its hard work that goes un-noticed. Then I get emotional and they don't understand why. I realize it's a minor thing compared to the much bigger problems in life. But it just really hit me hard last night. But everything worked out okay, and today is a new day. Today's plans are made, but we'll just have to wait and see how they go ;)
TGIF!

Hope today goes better <3.

I also love this group and look forward to checking in and hearing from y'all!

I had a wet cough this morning, which has me distressed because I can't think of what I ate that would have triggered it. I think I was really on point with my food choices yesterday. Grrrr...

I'm down another three pounds this week, so that makes me minus five for the month - woohoo! I've re-done my step count goal because for some reason my steps have been lower than normal lately, down around 5000, so my new goal is to add 1000-2000 steps and get back to to 6000-7000 step range, which I did accomplished yesterday.

We had another wild thunder and lightening storm last night, this is really strange weather for us. It's also been much cooler, and my desire for pumpkins and all things autumnal has really kicked in. I think I'm going to go the State Fair tomorrow, that seems appropriately fall like. I can't have any pumpkin spice Starbucks drinks, so I may have to go buy some pumpkins colored yarn.

Have a wonderfully healthful weekend everyone.

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend. I have just re-explored MFP computer based as well as the app and have reset my goals with what I think are close to my Keto ratios. I know that my snacking must really be knocking me off my goals at the moment. So I need to start holding myself more accountable there!

DD and I have a plan for the morning - today was a gorgeous day - so we are going to get up earlyish and head to the beach for a walk and for a relaxing lay down on the beach for a few hours before she starts work at lunch time. I think the water will still be a little cool for me but she wants to swim. Looking forward to it :) We ate lunch sitting outside in the courtyard today and is was sooo nice. I am really looking forward to my work break in about a weeks time - depending on how much paperwork I have left at the end of term.

Thanks

For Thankful Thursday, lets do a "five senses of thankful" -
something you can see
something you can hear
something you can taste
something you can smell
something you can touch

I'm behind but love this and wanted to post it

something I can see - Hummingbirds. I have a hummingbird feeder on my back porch that my mother-in-law gave me and I am always so thankful to see the birds come and eat from the feeder. Brightens my day.

something I can hear - I am thankful for hearing stories of generations past and reminiscing on fond memories. Also I am thankful for the rain. Laying in bed listening to the rain is one of my favourite things to do, and I don't get to do it as much as I did when I was younger.

something you can taste - I am thankful for burgers. I would not be able to stay keto without a really good lettuce wrapped burger. yummm.

something you can smell - I'm thankful that I actually kind of like the smell of canabis... I know I'm a bit bonkers... but as I work with the plants all day I'm very thankful I don't hate the smell.

something you can touch - my pillow. I LOVE my pillow. I've never spent as much money on a pillow as I did on my current one. I am very fussy about pillows as I'm a tummy sleeper and need a very flat pillow and I am very thankful to have found this pillow.

So sorry to hear about the loss in your family - some days just suck.

Soooo DS15 hiking camp has been postponed phew - fire conditions expected to be bad next week as well and the national park is being closed. They will now do it in week 3 - term 4 which will be in October - which means warmer weather to be hiking in. Took DD to the doctor to get her rechecked as she has been having way too many aura migraines the past 2 weeks - blood test this afternoon - so will go back next week to see if they tell us anything.

I went to the exercise physiologist this afternoon. So was told that the prompted 30 minutes a day 5 days a week of activity/walking is general and to lose weight need to be doing MORE than that! I already don't achieve that - oops. So my goal is at least 30 minutes 7 days - also she wants me to walk for about 10 minutes after eating - for blood sugar management. I am not eating in the morning at the moment but have been fitting in some walking then anyway. I also have some strength exercises to do twice a week at this stage and then I go back to see her in 3 weeks. Balancing advice from her with own research is a little tricky - also could tell she wanted me to be eating breakfast and when I said Keto got the lecture on too much fat even good fat and asked if it was something I could sustain long term - told her it seemed more sustainable that any other 'diets' I had tried before. Go the whole simplified calories in/out from her and I countered with not all calories are equal and I am not calorie counting on Keto but rater looking at portion sizes and ratios. The one thing I did like was how she explained that food choices help control the sugar and cholesterol going into my body and exercise helps draw it OUT of my body - so exercise is a very key aspect of managing my health. I am thinking this is going to be a repeated battle on Wednesday morning next week when I go to see the dietician ... watch this space for frustration people!

Busy weekend ahead getting children to their shifts - I feel like I want to see a movie - maybe I will look it up now and see if kids want to go to one tonight - they are all home :)

Thank you, some days/weeks really do just suck!!!

Keto is still rather new and a lot of health care professionals just do not understand it. The science is there to back it up, it certainly isn't for everyone as it is very restrictive, but it is the best way to manage blood sugars and if doing it to help loose weight it really shouldn't be looked at as a high fat diet. You eat just enough fat to sustain hunger and train your body to run on fat stores.

Hope you had fun with the family!

Feeing appreciated isn't a minor thing, it is something I think we all need. Meal planning and organizing schedules is a big task and deserves appreciation. Glad everything worked out though.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. I worked Friday, had a million chores to do today, my youngest has come down with whatever my oldest had so there has been lots of cuddling and juggling of responsibilities today but I managed to mostly accomplish what I needed to. One more day for chores tomorrow and three work days until I leave for my trip!!! I saw my friend I'm going with today for dinner and when we left couldn't believe that the next time I'll see her we will be in Orlando!

Good morning, everyone! Happy Monday! I am so glad to be checking in with you all today!

I missed all last week here because I was helping my daughter out while my grandson was getting over pneumonia. Thank goodness he is on the mend and able to go back to school.

I’m looking forward to chatting with you this week-but first I will go back and read last week’s posts.

Have a great day!

Sorry to hear that! Glad he's feeling better and is able to go back to school. My daughter missed 3 weeks of 5th grade with pneumonia. It hit her hard and took her a while to get back to her normal self and full strength. Hope he bounces back quickly.

MOTIVATION MONDAY
My motivation this week is answers. After 5 weeks of coughing and 3 weeks of pop-up rashes, I finally made some time for me to go see a doctor. Apparently my cough and rash have all been due to allergies. I've had minor seasonal allergies in the past, but nothing like this. Usually just the itchy eyes and sinus congestion. But this has been much worse. I'm in a new school building (well new to me....but technically an old building) and it's been humid and off & on rainy the first weeks of school. So we're guessing some type of mold allergy. But I'm changing my allergy meds and I'll be taking them regularly to see if there's an improvement. I'm just glad to have an answer because the rash was really getting annoying. Already last night was much better. So this answer has been back on track and refocused to go strong this week. My workout is done and I'm enjoying my breakfast shake. Then it's off to school. Happy Monday, everyone!

Glad to hear he is getting better - pneumonia is scary - DS15 had it when he was in primary school.

Motivation Monday - I am trying to constantly remind myself of the price of not making the changes I need to. Today I found the motivation to walk this morning and I did my strength training tonight. My eating was mostly on track and I only had 1 sugar free lemonade today and lots of water - but I just sooooo struggle with the need for chocolate.

This week I want to focus on walking every day at least 30 minutes and work on not eating any takeout - planned meals all week - I also want to fight that chocolate addiction.

Oh no - hope the new meds help! That is not a good start to the new year for you. Enjoy your day - I'm off to bed lol.

Wondered where you were... hope he is feeling better and back on his feet soon.

Yes, Answers! So glad to hear you've figured out the root cause of the cough and rash.

My motivation this week...

436267

... vacation is now just a week away! This weekend I'm taking a botanical dyeing workshop, out at the base of the mountains close to my favorite yarn store. I haven't done any crafting workshops for quite a while, so I'm really looking forward to it. Then mid-week I go to Port Townsend, a Victorian era sea port out on the peninsula, for a couple days. I always enjoy going there, and now there's an extra connection because my niece and nephew-in-law are moving there in the coming months.

This weekend was focused on moving things around. I worked mostly in the bedroom, because with the change in seasons I wanted the head of the bed against an internal wall. I also got in to the pantry and pulled out a lot of expired food and things I can no longer eat... hated throwing it away, but there's nothing else that can be done. Even with just the little bit I got done, when I enter the house it feels so much more open and clear, even tho I haven't worked on anything you can actually see when standing at the front door. And it's true... once you get started it's kind of addicting, the bookcase is next because it's full to over flowing.

I have heard fall is a bad time for allergies because of leaf mold-glad that changing your meds seems to be helping! And 5 weeks! That must have been so tough for all of you!

3Mickeys, I am somewhat addicted to my chocolate as well. As part of my Monday motivation I plan to limit my self to one small piece a day-I keep a bag of Hershey dark chocolate nuggets in the freezer.

Oneanne, that looks like a beautiful vacation destination. Would love to travel to the west coast one day-visited San Francisco years ago and loved it. Good for you tossing those things out!

I am all caught up from last week-loved The Thankful Thursday prompt and all your replies.

Someone mentioned a 9/11 blue sky-I often think that as well. I was working with a group in the library that day-we had a tv on a cart in our back room and staff would gather on their free moments for updates. The principal made an announcement at one point because word got out to the students. I was supposed to fly out to New Mexico that weekend where my husband was doing some work, but of course that was canceled. He didn’t get back home for almost 2 weeks. What a sad, awful time-but wasn’t it wonderful how people pulled together and supported each other?

That and the flags, flags everywhere!

If DS had been in school, I think I would have gone around by myself and taken more photos. (As it was, he was a baby, and I didn't feel safe to dragging him around on the sides of busy roads.) There were tons of fabric ones, but all sorts of creative ones, too - painted on rocks, drawn with chalk on driveways, built of plastic cups wedged in fences... It was great to see.

If you have followed this thread for any length of time, one thing that stands out is change. Changes in our diets, how we strive to become more active, in our work and family life as well. I learn something from all of you every day!

What is the biggest change you have made in your wish for a healthy lifestyle?

Is there something you would like to change?

I think one of the biggest changes I have made is the way I cook and the way we eat. We eat red meat once a week, I can’t remember the last time I bought a can of cream of something for a recipe and we eat vegetables I never ate growing up. I am a big fan of those one pan, roasted in the oven recipes.
One thing I would like to change is our lunches-I really would like to eat less or just eliminate deli type meats for health reasons-my husband needs to watch his sodium. I need to research some websites for ideas.

Allergies are no fun, hopefully your medication works well and quickly.

My biggest change has been cutting carbs. I cannot believe the benefits I have gained from this. No more IBS issues, no weekly+ bad migraines, 100+ pounds lost in a year, more energy.

Something I would like to change for the upcoming year is to go to the gym regularly and really get some strength training in.

Two more work days until I leave for Orlando! I'm very excited, have lots and lots to accomplish around work, but hoping everything goes smoothly.
