The [DIS] Influencer - Medium Story

Posted this in the news thread. It’s quite the interesting piece. Some other insiders on other sites have confirmed that at least some of this is true. TP2000 is still an active poster on WDWmagic.

Sorry, didn't even think to check in that thread.

Whoa now. Sunday just got juicy!!

Some facts:
1. I was Al's co-founder on MiceAge - I had a front row seat, so I know whereof I speak below.
2. It is true that Al has Parkinson's
3. I haven't written for MiceChat in a long time. Last I looked, they were using the name "MiceAge Update" rather than Al's name directly; there was something of a retirement more or less for Al. Could he still be writing occasional articles? Yes, sure. Especially if someone helped him.
4. The very idea that Al didn't write for MiceAge during the SaveDisney years is laughable. That was definitely him. Sure, he had sources, and I suppose they could have included folks in the Iger/Mucha camp. But don't you remember him ridiculing the way Zenia's name was pronounced? Definitely his own voice in those years, so the central premise of the article is wrong.

Since Mr. Synder outed several real names, I suppose it does no harm to reveal he is, in fact, Spirit of 74. Several of you picked up on the tone before I could confirm it.

Knowing that Spirit is the author of that article should change several things for readers. He was frequently a critic of Al, and with Al now sidelined by disease, this feels like a hit piece designed to "win the argument" several years later, and take Al's reputation down a notch.

It was all Al during those SaveDisney years, and he was nowhere close to co-opted by corporate. As noted above, his sources could have included Iger, sure. He could have promoted Iger over others, sure. But nowhere close to what you see with Influencers these days taking handouts and writing "reviews." Al was never comped into anything.

OK, so I read the story. I still don't understand the point.
Lol it certainly isn't the easiest read that's for sure.

Some gists of it though are Al Lutz and his MiceChat articles reportedly were fed by people inside Disney. Al Lutz is definitely a real person but it seems there might have been an intent behind what he was doing more so than we thought.

It also seems this is to show that Disney wants to present a fall guy for the unsuccessful start to SWGE which would be Bob Chapek.

A Disney employee Troy Porter is also apparently TP2000 a big time poster on wdwmagic.

Thanks Ryan. I did get the gist of that. But why is this significant now? Or even why was it then? Its a story of corporate politics. Things like that happen all the time.

Perhaps its just somebody rehashing historical information that might be of interest to Disneyphiles?

I think it is just interesting *now* as "social influencers" is such a buzz words and hot topic and the idea of a corporation using them for their own agenda (or individuals within a corporation using them to advance themselves/disparage others in the firm) is juicy and seems like a movie and just of the times

But like you say, it is corporate politics and the type of thing the happens everywhere and all the time .... Just the use of social influencers makes it seem more interesting and like "what else is going on?" ... Or, is anyone posting here just a tool of Iger to advance his agenda *cough* @rteetz *cough*

;)

I think its all about timing. D23 is this coming weekend. SWGE has been a huge topic of discussion as of late too.

Plot thickens or changes but Kevin is now amending this post to say Gary is WDW1974/Spirit's brother not the actual person.

he's writing a hit piece on a guy with Parkinson's who couldn't respond? disgusting
Not squarely about Al Lutz but definitely in regards to bringing him down a bit. Al just posted an article last week that drew quite a bit of attention in the Disney community. So one would think maybe Al could respond. If this is semi-true though Al may not have written that article last week in the first place or at least was fed information. Obviously none of us here (most likely) know the actual facts.
