Visitor Toll Pass Extended Through 8/31/19

This seems to have been extended indefinitely. I have just signed up for my September trip. Does anyone know how I opt out of the Alamo pass system? I have done online check in and skip the line. Is there something I have to switch off in the car so that the ‘free’ pass is charged rather than the Alamo one? Thank you.

You don’t have to do anything to opt out of the Alamo program. The cars do not come equipped with transponders, using toll-by-plate instead. If you drive through an automatic toll lane, tolls are charged using a simple algorithm. If the vehicle has a device that can be read, charge the tolls to the corresponding account. If no device, use toll-by-plate to charge to the registered owner of the vehicle. In the second case, the tolls get processed through a third party and the driver of the rental car get charged the toll(s) plus a $3.95 service fee per day on which tolls were charged (maximum of $19.75 per rental).

With Alamo rentals, I just register the license plate of the rental car on my online Epass account when I pick up the car. Tolls have always been charged correctly to my account. If you use the hang tag and register the license plate, you should be covered.

Just a reminder, late last night we tried to add my own sun pass and could not, as it said it was registered with another account. After a long discussion with the attendant and manager, of which I was told to contact sunpass, after they had determined it was not the Alamo account. Had to finally be given another car. So make sure you take off the sun pass account when you return the car. Was the first time we had ever run into that, and midnight was not the time I wanted to experience that.

CORRECT .. but also note that when you add a rental (it asks if it is a rental) you can enter an 'expires' date as well ... on the SUNPASS APP.

As noted above you don’t have to do anything to opt out with Alamo. I used the visitor toll pass for my trip a week ago and rented from Alamo. It was super easy and helped with saving time and a little bit of money with not having to slow down at the tolls to pay cash.

I’ve already set up reservations for my future trips through July 2020.

Thanks for the great tips. We just purchased the SunPass transponder and will be using it for the first time next Friday. I’ve been trying to get as much info as possible. Hadn’t even thought of deleting rental car from the account.

Thanks! I posted in original thread now.
THANK YOU for posting! Will be trying this soon! :cool1:Signed up successfully, I was given a reservation number, BUT no e mail sent yet.
Did everyone get an e mail right away or did it take a little while? Thanks! Guess if I don't get an e mail I can call the phone number OR just give them the Reservation number when I pick it up.
