I feel like I've seen people here discuss trips to Clearwater Beach, but don't see any hotel reviews on that thread. Anyone stayed at any Marriotts in Clearwater Beach? There are several there for 35k in January, plus the Fenway Hotel in Dunedin which looks kind of cool and is part of the Autograph collection for Marriott.

We (and @Alexle2007 ) stayed at the Sheraton Sand Key, and I know @Judique has stayed there also. I liked it. It is not in the Clearwater Strip, which I personally loved, but I think @Alexle2007's family did not like that. It was an easy trolley ride to get to the busier Clearwater area. I walked for miles on the Sand key beach and saw maybe 10 people total. On the Clearwater side you will have 10 people in your personal space at all times. This was in June, so not sure how it is if you are looking off peak. We took the Trolley all the way to Dunedin. It was a cute little town. We just walked around and ate there then took an Uber back to the Sheraton so we didn't have to wait on the Trolley. The Trolley was easy enough, but we had to transfer and had a little wait in the town of Clearwater (not the beach area) and it is strange over there. lol The town is apparently mostly owned by the Scientology Church. We thought there was a big resort that had a massive shift change while we were waiting because all these people were walking around in uniforms. Nope, it was church members. I don't know anything about the church, hope I don't offend anyone, not saying anything bad about it, it was just strange. Have no idea why they all dress alike.

So are you looking for beach activity or something else while staying there? Quiet beach activity I would pick the Sheraton (or Marriott across street). In the middle of everything beach activity then Clearwater Beach area or quiet quaint little Downtown area then pick Dunedin.

Did you book with the CSR? I always hope my flight gets canceled or delayed when Im supposed to leave Disney so I can stay "for free." If you did book the best hotel available and eat a nice dinner. If you like steak Id vote for Yatchsman lol
Didn't @Andysol have this happen and he stayed at GF and ate at Narcoossee's?!

Maybe I should book something for Festival of the Arts 🤔

I’ve been booking all my taxes and fees on the csr for my trips in case it covers it. Also booked 7 bucks of my dolphin stay on aa points on the csr for September. It is hurricane season after all.

I also always hope they temporarily "lose" my luggage so I can go on a Disney clothing shopping spree lol. I canceled P2s CSR last month and Im upgrading my CSP to a CSR in November. I bet between now and November I will have some kind of issue when I don't have that coverage available.

Yes, exactly! I do not have a SW CC, but I believe it would let me get a $25 Disney gift card with what I have. I didn't try redeeming for it, but I saw it as an option.

Thanks, I'll check it out when I have time. We leave tomorrow night after work for AP preview and have to pack and do some other things tonight.

If anyone remembers, we couldn't do both the preview and Labor Day weekend? Well, we are lol. My husband has to call out on Saturday so we're keeping it very quiet. Flying in late tomorrow, 2 nights at swan on Priceline express deal, flying home Sunday 6pm. Gonna be a whirlwind! Couldn't do it without this thread!

Plenty to do for 3 days. Weather is.a crap shoot. Could be 60s and sunny or 50s ans wet. We don't often get indian summers in the pnw but you never know.

Thanks for your thoughts. We have been to Portland many, many times, but not during that particular time. The cold, rainy, dreary days do get to me in November and December when we have been there.

@DisneyMandC editing to add that I actually preferred our stay in downtown St. Pete over our stay in Clearwater. But it depends on the vibe you are looking for and what you want to do. Downtown St. Pete reminded me of Key West, but if I had the choice to do either again I would pick St. Pete. But we stayed in a Hyatt there, not a Marriott.

So it's funny you say this... I didn't want to just put it out there in case somebody here maybe is a Scientologist (probably unlikely, but whatever), but part of the reason DH wants to stay in the Clearwater area instead of Tampa is because he's OBSESSED with that Leah Remini show about Scientology and has seen them driving through Clearwater and how the church has basically taken over the whole town and now he really wants to see it :rotfl2: :rotfl2: So when I texted him earlier and told him I'd booked a return flight and found us a couple options for hotels in Clearwater so he can walk around that afternoon and see all the Scientologists, he was thrilled. I think he may have been more excited than when I booked us first class round trip tickets for Japan

But anyways, Scientology aside, I'm thinking since it'll just be the late afternoon/evening, we are probably just going to want to check out some of Clearwater and then get a nice dinner and relax. So I'm thinking Dunedin might be a good option to stay at and we can just drive around Clearwater some and check it out.

I had a churning fail I just realized yesterday (about 2 am actually). I added EBCI for my mom, uncle, and myself for our Sept flights, and used my new SW Priority card to use the credits. I had completely forgotten that DH receives $100 travel credit per calendar year for incidentals on his BoA Premier card and I had planned on using it up on the EBCI fees. So annoyed with myself! :headache: :headache: :headache: I might still be able to use it for May/June flights if they’re released before the end of the year and I have enough points to book at least 2 of our flights. DH has 63k RR’s and I should have 29k soon (5k RR bonus for upgrading, planning on applying for the new SW biz card in Nov and finishing MSR in Jan). I think there’s still a good chance to use the credit, but just wish I had done it already.

FYI – in case anyone is wondering why 3 adults need EBCI, my uncle is developmentally delayed, and my mom feels more comfortable always getting EBCI. I was only going to purchase it for the return flight and take my chances on the flight out, but I booked as RT and didn’t see a way to just do it on the return. I have wondered if my mom could request to pre-board with him but he doesn’t really appear to be special needs so not sure if they’d give her a hard time about it.

I've always wondered how this works. I don't have a CSR, but I'm always curious when they ask for people to volunteer not to take the flight. Usually SW offers the price of your ticket plus some amount of money in the form of a voucher. If we booked the flight with points and took the offer, I'd guess we'd get the points back and then use the voucher to book a new flight home? Would you be guaranteed a flight the next day? If it happened in Disney I guess we'd try to book another night with DVC points and go back on the ME bus. But how do you get your luggage back? Has anyone actually experienced this that could share their thoughts?

How does this scenario change with the CSR?

I have nothing to MS right now. I finished my Hyatt 15k Free night. I do 6,000 a month on Ebates/GCM. Waiting for more staples promos to do the CIC. There hasn't been a VGC deal at grocery stores in awhile so I bet one is coming soon. Im holding off on finishing SO's gold until then. Should I just order 1500 a day on GCM with the BBP (this makes me nervous with Amex's new terms), Freedom Unlimited, Southwest?
Can't remember what grocery store you use, but my local Kroger has one Fri-Sun. Save $5 on $100 gift card, use up to 5 times.

Your scenario is when you voluntarily get bumped and the CSR won't give you anything in that situation. Airlines can offer vouchers or cash (gift cards) it really depends on how desperate they are though. I have never had an offer to get bumped. I would expect that they would put you on the next available flight, cover overnight lodging and food, PLUS a voucher to use another time.

The CSR will cover certain expenses if your flight is delayed for more than 6 hours. Hotel, food etc. Plus if your luggage is lost of delayed they will reimburse for "necessary" items.

Ohhh okay. I've seen my scenario multiple times, but I've only had a flight delay that long once. Thanks for clarifying! I was always curious but I didn't want to volunteer and end up losing money. Maybe next time I'll line up and ask. The last flight I was on people jumped at the offer and I think it was only given to one family. The offer was the refund plus a $600 voucher! Of course now that I'm willing to ask the opportunity probably won't present itself again lol.

Im always at the airport and I hear offers for $1000 vouchers and stuff but never for my flight. I would try and ask for a refund, to be put on the next flight and the voucher for another flight but personally I would ask for a cash GC. I know Delta gives Amex GC's but they try to only give away vouchers.
