This is ever so slightly off-topic, but I had no idea until today that this was even an option, so I thought it might be useful to other folks reading this thread because they have a GTY reservation. When I booked my November Merrytime cruise, the only option left for a family of 5 was 4D GTY. PIF is in a couple of week and folks are a-cancelling, so I took a peek and lo and behold, a bunch of specific rooms had become available on the DCL website for booking. I called and asked if it is possible to switch from GTY to a specific room (I had my eye on a midship deck 7 category 4C with great reviews that was actually LESS money than I had paid for my 4D GTY) and it turns out it is possible, they can switch you (at least before PIF date--I don't know about after), and you can even keep your dining rotation. So just wanted to let folks know that is an option if you are not GTY by choice but rather necessity, as was the case for us.

I saw someone here cruising in November got their assignment, so made me anxious. I got spoiled because my last GTY I got assigned 6 months before my cruise right after I paid in full....I was shocked!

Interesting. I have never gotten it sooner than about 45 days the 2 times I have done GTY. I prefer to pick my room as I like being forward and have always gotten mid and further back when I have done GTY.

Yup, that was mine. I am on the same cruise, Nov. 18th. I definitely wasn't expecting to be assigned yet. After I paid in full through my travel agent, I went to check my reservation just to make sure it said that I was paid in full, and I was surprised to see I had already been assigned my cabin!
