Okay so Dh and I were talking and we both just said how much we loved Tokyo and want to go back. We already have enough points that we could fly business class again with ANA. He just said he wants to go in November of this year lol. I’m pretty sure there won’t be any award flights for that soon. We just want to go back and explore Tokyo without a strict itinerary. We loved walking the Shibuya area and yoyogi park. Do you guys think November is a no go with award flights? Is it too soon? Are we crazy?!!!

I feel like 5 is enough but SO always complains that they only sell a five day ticket lol
I could do more than 5. Although one day we spent there with friends and let them pick everything so it was like 4 1/2 days of our choices. Lol. I would do RSR everyday. Plus every night, I would think “Tomorrow I need to pay attention to the detail, look for the light in Walt’s apartment, enjoy the little stuff”. Every night back at our hotel, I would realize I got caught up in the rushing and the fun and forgot to look at the little things.

I think if you really love a destination then why not return? That said, since I zone out whenever Japan is mentioned as a travel destination, I have no idea whether ANA has available award flights. Check it out and if they do then go for it. You're only young and childless for a finite time 🤣

(we ARE a bunch of enablers, aren't we?)

Well I don’t think I could check availability unless I call Virgin Atlantic which I really don’t want to do lol.

Does he feel like he can ask for that long of a vacation being so new to his job?

MS on your cards lol. I haven’t gotten the popup and have gotten every charge card and I keep getting two credit cards every 90 days. MSed the Gold 25,000 though and I use a lot of Amex offers.
It’s DHs account. He has 3 cards I’ve done a fair amount of spend and have other cards I’d rather use but if you think it’ll help I’ll give it a go
I just loaded my Serve for the first time!! I was sweating as I did it, but it was fine. Do I have to wait a certain period of time before transferring to my bank? If I do it right away does that send up any red flags?
Did you do Walmart of FD?

He said we would probably just do a week. He won’t take any time off between now and then so he should be okay. This is really only in the beginning stages and I doubt there are any plane tickets available anyway but it’s an interesting idea.

Just a little tangent to the "simplicity" discussion.

Those of you worried or frustrated by your various logins should look into a password manager, such as LastPass or Dashlane (both commercial products with free versions), or KeePass if you prefer open source. Without intending to sound too dramatic, it greatly improves your life. You remember one password, you password manager remembers the rest.

I realize that your phone likely has some kind of password manager, but a third-party manager will sync across all of your devices and computers. Though the iOS manager is getting much better, it still pales in comparison, in my opinion.

The upside to using it is that you can have super-strong, randomized passwords for ALL of your sites because you don't have to remember them, or ever even see them. Start small and try it with just a few sites for a week or so.

And for that one password you do have to remember, do yourself a favor and use a five- or six-word pass phrase. Easy to remember, and very, very strong.
Agree! I use KeePass, sync'd to my phone and my Mac (I mostly use a windows machine for now). It's a huge time saver (fewer keystrokes) and all of my passwords are long and complicated now.

I'm so glad you brought this up. It's something I've been thinking about a lot lately, and wasn't sure how to post about it exactly. I feel bad about getting DH to get #2 without considering all of this, and I'm kind of up for applying for #2 in the next week or so and I'm hesitating since I don't want to lose our relationship with Chase entirely. I like my Hyatt card, DH likes his CSR, etc. So when the AMEX clawback started happening this is where my mind went. Clearly I'm more risk averse than many people, but I have seen long term benefits with some of our cards and I don't really want to be shut out of new offers. So I was planning to ask about this anyway... No self-referrals here since we are in 2 player mode.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'm not entirely sure what I was attempting to accomplish with that comment other than open a dialogue and hear what others thought. When it comes to certain loopholes, it's good to think through the benefits and risks and hear what others are doing about it too. As an example, I know a lot of people here who have their sets strongly set on a 2020/2021 SW Companion Pass. If I were in their shoes, I might calm my CIPpy cup efforts until I accomplished that (but then again I might not...hard to put myself in their shoes, haha). At any rate, I'm glad I'm not the only one who had this on their mind after the Amex clawback debacle.

Uhhh is five days an option??? lol I’d probably go with the three day hopper because it’s easy to hop.

Echoing other posters to say that I wouldn't do either one. Last time I flew through LHR and had to change planes it took forever, we had to ride a bus (which took forever to load and start moving), etc. and we were flying in First and had priority. I figure 3 hours minimum. I'd rather be miserable sitting in the airport for hours (hello 5 hours in the overly hot and pretty mediocre Air France lounge at CDG last summer) than book a one hour connection and be stressed that I was going to miss my connection in another country.

Hmmm. First time huh? I'd say if you want to limit your days I'd go with a 3-day hopper. It takes no time at all to walk across the esplanade from one park to the other. Otherwise, I'd pick 4 days, one park each day. IIRC DL is charging a lot for that hopper option, but it can be useful if the park you're in is full. Our last trip was the first time I didn't book a hopper and just did a 2-day pass, one park each day, but I wouldn't recommend that in general.
I have to draw the $ line somewhere. We are doing MVMCP at WDW, probably in Nov. I want a spring trip somewhere while we have 2 CPs and my Disney specific budget is looking good right now so seems the perfect opportunity. We'd do Disney, then some other touristy things, Huntington Beach.

I'm thinking a Hilton FN near Huntington Beach, 5 nights at DoubleTree, then we'll have another FN to use somewhere as well. I'm only planning for 2 adults/2 kids. If the bigs want to join they'll have to pay and I'll help with booking for them, but that means a second room everywhere.

I'm leaning more toward Hopper since the parks are so close. The difference between 3 day and 4 day looks to be about $100 so that isn't too bad.

@wendow They updated park hours at least for MK for aug 7th cause I just got an email that my sdmt fp was changed from 8-9pm to 810-910 pm. Parks open til 10 now with EMH 10 to midnight which makes me happy. Was able to change my fp to 9-10pm which works better for me and there were other times available so if you need some go grab them :)

The hopper option is so much better at DL. It takes a while to get from any park at WDW to any other park it takes real time. It really doesn't at DL. Back when DD was little we went with friends and were able to watch Fantasmic, run over to DCA to see the MSEP, then run back to Main Street and watch the fireworks, all within a couple of hours or less. Back then I always got hoppers since we didn't like to spend an entire day at DCA, but now that there is more to do over there we can happily spend a day there.

I grabbed a SDMT for that weekend just in case. We haven’t been able to get a fp for it since we moved but looks like they added a bunch. Thanks!

How do you sync it? I'm not totally sure I'd like it on my phone but maybe.

I use DropBox to sync to my devices (Mac*, Windows, and two iOS devices). There are some good YouTube videos covering the process.

It's a bit more involved than the "it just works" feel you get from Dashlane and LAstPass, but if you're a KeePass user you've probably a bit more tech savvy than the average so it's not likely to be a big deal to set up.

*Edit to add: I use KeePassX on my Mac machines. But it uses the same file.

That all sounds more complicated than I want. Plus I'm somewhat careful about what gets put in the cloud so I'll just go with what I have. I generally don't have a need for them on my phone though this reminds me I should get it set up on my 2 in 1 so I have it when I travel in case I need it. Time to start a new post it list :)

This is where my thoughts are. Ideally DH and I would both get CPs for 20/21. I have been trying to think through the ins and outs of that and the CIPpy Cup. We both could take one more drink before starting to apply for CP but I need to determine if that is wise. Or if the CIPpy would actually make more sense than 2 CPs. Lots to ponder. Thanks for bringing up the discussion.

Wait!!?? Are you in MK on the 7th? Us too! We have SDMT that morning. We'll have to see if we decide to stay for EMH. We usually do but being our first park day with 6 more to follow (and we always RD), I'm not sure we will go all out that first day lol. If you see us, say hi!
