Currently being punished for never setting up my pnc account online when they mailed me the info over 3 years ago when they switched sites. On hold and should be answered within 10 minutes.

Just a little tangent to the "simplicity" discussion.

Those of you worried or frustrated by your various logins should look into a password manager, such as LastPass or Dashlane (both commercial products with free versions), or KeePass if you prefer open source. Without intending to sound too dramatic, it greatly improves your life. You remember one password, you password manager remembers the rest.

I realize that your phone likely has some kind of password manager, but a third-party manager will sync across all of your devices and computers. Though the iOS manager is getting much better, it still pales in comparison, in my opinion.

The upside to using it is that you can have super-strong, randomized passwords for ALL of your sites because you don't have to remember them, or ever even see them. Start small and try it with just a few sites for a week or so.

And for that one password you do have to remember, do yourself a favor and use a five- or six-word pass phrase. Easy to remember, and very, very strong.

Love keepass though I had a heck of a time saving everything to transfer it to the new laptop. Part of that was user error though since I accidentally deleted it before I had saved or something and just had problems. :)

Well better late than never . . . sorry for the late reply. We've just returned from Alaska. We won't stay until January, so I can't give you a first hand account. I'm guessing Marriott Mangroove is fully booked? From what I've read, it would be more kid friendly (and has a nicer beach).

Curious to know what you end up doing.
I’ve changed my mind a couple times. Lol Ended up not booking anything in CR, found openings in NOLA which was our original plan. We might end up canceling altogether because we know eating in NOLA will cost us a bunch OOP.

And it gets better, regular customer service can't help only the mortgage department can and they're closed. But they're open tomorrow from 6am to 11am my time except I have a 5k so now I have to call while I'm waiting for the start. And I won't actually get access because I'll have to wait to get the pin in the mail. *** every other bank in the world that I'm aware of finds that we're all perfectly capable of proving we are who we are without a pin. Chase just let me create my biz account but pnc has to provide a pin?

They called it identity verification or something stupid. They needed front & back of SS card, front & back of driver’s license and a utility bill or bank statement.

The only options were snail mail or fax. And since I was teleworking, I had to do 🐌 mail. They won’t process without it.
Weird

I did all my errands tonight figuring I would get them done during the "cooler" part of the day, especially because tomorrow is supposed to be even hotter!

Went to Staples and got a $50 Disney GC with the $10 off $40 offer. Fortunately BBB is right next door so I went in there and grabbed a $25 Disney GC with the $5 off $25. Not bad getting 20% off $75 in less than 10 minutes. Easy money!

My husband randomly got an email from Hilton that his guest information was updated successfully. Thankfully HIS Hilton account has no points but I had him change his password and make sure no one had booked a stay under it. Its the one that he set up for gold status with his Plat.

He chatted with Hilton and they said its a system email for when you update. Okay but he literally lead with he didn’t update anything! She then transferred him to a new person that crashed. Then he had a new chat and that person said its a computer error related to an internal systems crash. SO if you get one of these I’d still check your account, but seems benign.

@schmass, have you looked any more into transferring UR or MR to VS (ideally during a transfer bonus) and booking partner awards on Hawaiian? Hawaiian flies direct to/from Hawaii at both BOS and JFK.

What is VS?

It is definitely scorching and I had to mow our 2 acres since we leave tomorrow morning for GWL and Va Beach. I was a soaked mess and the bugs were out of control which made it even worse.
My brother just moved to VA beach on Monday!

Drinking from the CIPpy cup...what could go wrong?

I've been pondering something today, and I feel it's worth sharing. I want to preface this by saying, I personally am ok with the risk of CIPpy and will continue to drink until the cup spills over.

That said, it's worth pointing out that Chase is not afraid to shutdown accounts if they feel abuse has taken place. Earlier this year, a loophole was shared on r/churning that you could generate support links to any Chase card by manipulating the link. This essentially unlocked a backdoor self-support method. Shortly thereafter, it was discovered that these support bonuses had to be posted manually by Chase and could draw unwanted attention to your account. We subsequently decided here, that we would not support this backdoor "self-support" method and we removed all mention of it.

After this occurred, Chase sent letters out to some of r/churning's support link "super users" (more like super receivers) who had used the ability to PC their card multiple times to max out support points two and three times on the same card within one year. Some of these users also had participated in the link manipulation shared above.

The text in that letter said:
We reviewed your credit card account and it appears as though certain transactions represent a misuse of the rewards program...If this activity continues or if there is any other misuse or misrepresentation by you, we may close this and any other accounts you have with Chase.

A picture of that letter can be seen here:
The users who received these warning letters all were clear that they felt it tied to support links and I believe a couple may have called in to confirm that. Then, in a somewhat shocking move, one of those folks who received a letter actually had some of their cards shutdown by Chase (presumably for the same activity as there was no other logical reason for the shutdown). It's worth noting though, that in all instances, they did not clawback any rewards.

How does this tie to CIPpy you may ask? Well it seems that Chase can decide in their sole discretion what they deem to be abuse of their rewards program. Could they decide that repeatedly getting the same card to earn the signup bonus while simultaneously "self-supporting" was an abuse? I certainly think so. It is almost a certainty that this loophole will cease to exist at some point in the future. Nobody can tell you how far away that is, and nobody can tell you what (if any) consequences may occur when it gets shutdown. I will reiterate, that I am not going to stop drinking from CIPpy... But, I am going to try my best to follow some rules to cip safely:
  • I will always do P1=>P2 or P2=>P1 clicks. I know that might not be possible for all (especially those in 1 player mode) but if this is an option, embrace it! Avoiding a true "self-support" click is much more defensible. In the recent Amex clawback debacle, nobody who was supporting via this method experienced any clawback,.
  • Follow your pacing guidelines, don't try to accelerate the timeline and do 1 a month. It's just not worth the risk of getting yourself shutdown on your own.
  • If you want to be paranoid, you may also consider trying to mix up your business type with each application. Perhaps you own multiple successful "businesses" and you purely were pursuing the best small business card on the market for each business...
Please don't stop drinking from CIPpy because of this comment...just make sure you've weighed all the options and are doing it in the most safe way possible for your situation.

Additionally, as we are advising new folks on this option, I think it's important that we make sure they understand that this is not without risk. I don't want to spook them, but it's irresponsible as a "DISchurner" adviser to not at least make sure they understand that this is a loophole and (a) could be shutdown and (b) could come with some level of consequence at some point in the future.

I'm interested to hear anybody else's thoughts on this - even if you're opposed or feel I'm being overly paranoid here...

I'm so glad you brought this up. It's something I've been thinking about a lot lately, and wasn't sure how to post about it exactly. I feel bad about getting DH to get #2 without considering all of this, and I'm kind of up for applying for #2 in the next week or so and I'm hesitating since I don't want to lose our relationship with Chase entirely. I like my Hyatt card, DH likes his CSR, etc. So when the AMEX clawback started happening this is where my mind went. Clearly I'm more risk averse than many people, but I have seen long term benefits with some of our cards and I don't really want to be shut out of new offers. So I was planning to ask about this anyway... No self-referrals here since we are in 2 player mode.

International transit time at LHR----is 1h 25m long enough (PHL-LHR, LHR-DEL)? What about 1h 5m (DEL-LHR, LHR-PHL)?

Echoing other posters to say that I wouldn't do either one. Last time I flew through LHR and had to change planes it took forever, we had to ride a bus (which took forever to load and start moving), etc. and we were flying in First and had priority. I figure 3 hours minimum. I'd rather be miserable sitting in the airport for hours (hello 5 hours in the overly hot and pretty mediocre Air France lounge at CDG last summer) than book a one hour connection and be stressed that I was going to miss my connection in another country.

First time at Disneyland, possibly late April, how many days would you recommend? 2/3/4 days or 2/3 day hopper?

Future trip planning in progress.

Hmmm. First time huh? I'd say if you want to limit your days I'd go with a 3-day hopper. It takes no time at all to walk across the esplanade from one park to the other. Otherwise, I'd pick 4 days, one park each day. IIRC DL is charging a lot for that hopper option, but it can be useful if the park you're in is full. Our last trip was the first time I didn't book a hopper and just did a 2-day pass, one park each day, but I wouldn't recommend that in general.

Poor dd lifeguarded from 10-8 today and same schedule tomorrow. Tomorrow we hit 100 with no clouds. Humidity is through the roof. Cannot wait to go to Michigan.
It was 99 when I was in MK earlier this week. I usually don't venture back to the parks until later, but I had snagged a SDFP for SDMT and thought it would be nice to pop over there just to do 3 FP and back to the resort for an evening swim. So we left the hotel at 3:30. I walked from the bus stop, up Main Street to the carousel and was suddenly very dizzy and nauseated. Thats when I checked the temp and it said 99. Yikes! The heat didn't really bother me during the trip except that one afternoon. I mean, it was hot and humid, but I'd rather be hot than cold any day of the week and twice on Sunday. But having resort time from 2-6 was very helpful in making it all very tolerable. Your poor DD must be dying out there. My DD said the worst is when she works a Casey's shift and has to clean the tables in the heat with that uniform on. :scared:
