Seems anywhere we want to stay for Spring Break next year has no points rooms available. Thinking maybe Andaz Papagayo. Tagging @Andysol and @pillow and anyone else who has been there. Is it kid friendly? Are there enough activities to do without venturing off property?

Well better late than never . . . sorry for the late reply. We've just returned from Alaska. We won't stay until January, so I can't give you a first hand account. I'm guessing Marriott Mangroove is fully booked? From what I've read, it would be more kid friendly (and has a nicer beach).

Curious to know what you end up doing.

Hmmm,,,,,this was the original point of contention when we had problems with a stay last May. I was trying to pay, and was trying to give the credits to daughter for plat status for next year. It got incredibly confused and I basically ended up with a free stay and cash credit (none of which I asked for or felt entitled to). Marriott's system doesn't seem to like change or any 'change' requests. It also took a while but eventually night credit showed on both our accounts.
Can I ask how you use points to give credits to someone else? DH has a bunch of points but I have the status with Marriott. I’d like to use his to boost my status...

Drinking from the CIPpy cup...what could go wrong?

I've been pondering something today, and I feel it's worth sharing. I want to preface this by saying, I personally am ok with the risk of CIPpy and will continue to drink until the cup spills over.

That said, it's worth pointing out that Chase is not afraid to shutdown accounts if they feel abuse has taken place. Earlier this year, a loophole was shared on r/churning that you could generate support links to any Chase card by manipulating the link. This essentially unlocked a backdoor self-support method. Shortly thereafter, it was discovered that these support bonuses had to be posted manually by Chase and could draw unwanted attention to your account. We subsequently decided here, that we would not support this backdoor "self-support" method and we removed all mention of it.

After this occurred, Chase sent letters out to some of r/churning's support link "super users" (more like super receivers) who had used the ability to PC their card multiple times to max out support points two and three times on the same card within one year. Some of these users also had participated in the link manipulation shared above.

The text in that letter said:
We reviewed your credit card account and it appears as though certain transactions represent a misuse of the rewards program...If this activity continues or if there is any other misuse or misrepresentation by you, we may close this and any other accounts you have with Chase.

A picture of that letter can be seen here:
The users who received these warning letters all were clear that they felt it tied to support links and I believe a couple may have called in to confirm that. Then, in a somewhat shocking move, one of those folks who received a letter actually had some of their cards shutdown by Chase (presumably for the same activity as there was no other logical reason for the shutdown). It's worth noting though, that in all instances, they did not clawback any rewards.

How does this tie to CIPpy you may ask? Well it seems that Chase can decide in their sole discretion what they deem to be abuse of their rewards program. Could they decide that repeatedly getting the same card to earn the signup bonus while simultaneously "self-supporting" was an abuse? I certainly think so. It is almost a certainty that this loophole will cease to exist at some point in the future. Nobody can tell you how far away that is, and nobody can tell you what (if any) consequences may occur when it gets shutdown. I will reiterate, that I am not going to stop drinking from CIPpy... But, I am going to try my best to follow some rules to cip safely:
  • I will always do P1=>P2 or P2=>P1 clicks. I know that might not be possible for all (especially those in 1 player mode) but if this is an option, embrace it! Avoiding a true "self-support" click is much more defensible. In the recent Amex clawback debacle, nobody who was supporting via this method experienced any clawback,.
  • Follow your pacing guidelines, don't try to accelerate the timeline and do 1 a month. It's just not worth the risk of getting yourself shutdown on your own.
  • If you want to be paranoid, you may also consider trying to mix up your business type with each application. Perhaps you own multiple successful "businesses" and you purely were pursuing the best small business card on the market for each business...
Please don't stop drinking from CIPpy because of this comment...just make sure you've weighed all the options and are doing it in the most safe way possible for your situation.

Additionally, as we are advising new folks on this option, I think it's important that we make sure they understand that this is not without risk. I don't want to spook them, but it's irresponsible as a "DISchurner" adviser to not at least make sure they understand that this is a loophole and (a) could be shutdown and (b) could come with some level of consequence at some point in the future.

I'm interested to hear anybody else's thoughts on this - even if you're opposed or feel I'm being overly paranoid here...

I just got my CIP2 approved, and wonder about this as well. I was thinking about sending SM to expedite the card, but guess not going to do it.......less eyes on my account.

My my, there's a lot of keen eyed observers that would be shocked by my tags
PA finally did away with tag stickers... and I think I may have forgot to put on my last one anyway... so I think my tag shows 2016.
Hubby was always bad at putting his stickers on even when you were supposed to, so his might even be worse!
:rotfl:
I always notice NE plates, because they change the design every couple years. There was a house near us out here that had a car with NE plates that were from before I started driving! It disappeared maybe two years ago now, but that means those plates were over 12 years old :faint:

That makes sense for PA with getting rid of stickers. I wish everywhere would go to that! I always worry the stickers may fall off.
Another Newegg dp- I bought VGCs from Newegg Monday, received the congrats! email Monday from Amex, received the egift cards Tuesday, used them yesterday and finally sometime between bedtime and waking up, the $94.77 credit ($200/$100 plus activation fees were $315.90). I wanted to buy DGC but decided to be responsible (sigh) and pay for gas/water/sewage for the next 2 months. It's so boring being a grown up sometimes.
I'm impatient... my order all went through right away. Yesterday afternoon I set up an account for DH and ordered... he got the AMEX email, but still no GCs from Newegg.

Got the call from Pepco that today is an energy savings day, meaning if you reduce energy consumption between 1-5pm they will give you a bill credit. I usually try to do this. The plan is do errands during that time frame, so today I'll visit Staples and CVS.
I keep waiting for there to be a power limit here, since its been so warm. Then we have to keep our usage below a certain limit which for us basically means shut it down... sometimes we can buy our way through though. Ah, capitalism :rotfl:
We have had 3 already in the last week here. My thermostats (Nest) are controlled by our electric company. They drop the house temp down to pre-cool and then they go to their "energy saving state for 2-3 hours and then resume normal temperatures. I get a kick back but don't remember what it is. I can adjust if need be but it usually only goes up 5 degrees so no biggy.

It's honestly starting to feel like an absurd joke that I still haven't been able to order MBs. I really don't understand how Disney has screwed up the $10 MBs so badly.
It's terrible. They add a new one and its gone in like 5 minutes....or so it seems.

Need a "D'oh" smiley as a reaction too. :headache:I think part of the reason PA decided to do away with the stickers is you are more likely to get pulled over for an expired inspection sticker than a registration. The computer systems are so quick to check registration status and it's a minor violation it really didn't seem to be a point. I forget how much money they said it saved by not providing the stickers, but it was a good chunk of change. They timed it with the move to allow 2 year registrations to make logistics easier. I keep forgetting to peel off all the old ones so it probably looks bizarre when all us PA folks travel out of state since most states have some type of sticker system. (last I heard there's less than a handful of states not using stickers) Although I guess it'd probably look bizarre either way. I know I'm still shocked at seeing a nice shiny new plate with no stickers at all :)

Fortunately we don't have inspection stickers.

But an expired registration can mean a towed vehicle and finding a ride home here.

I've noticed that with my Hilton support links when posting it to DISchurners and trying to figure out what to type in the offer description. Some will generate a SUB with 110k, or 125k, or 140k, etc. :confused3 Given that I couldn't be sure what offer amount would come up when someone clicked my link, I decided just not to post it at all.

For anyone referring to the Hilton cards, you may want to consider not just bonus on the card you're referring from, but also the SUB that is generated from that link compared to the public offer or support links from P2's other cards.

I'm going for the Hilton Biz card but not until we know we've got the right referral. Older daughter has the Hilton Biz and I've asked her to check her link, but I can't apply until August because I'll need all 4 months to get that 5K this time around, unless something pops up. I have insurances due in August, Sept, Oct and Dec - can pay this one in November.

But someone refresh me on the number of Amex cards I can hold? I have only 1 charge card, 3 personal credit, and 1 Biz so I think I'm okay for the Hilton card. I know it's 5 credit as a general rule, but not sure if it's personal and Biz mixed, or if I have more than one slot open on the credit side? I won't be closing any of the cards I have now - 2 are close to 20 years old and the other 2 are currently keepers.

Can I ask how you use points to give credits to someone else? DH has a bunch of points but I have the status with Marriott. I’d like to use his to boost my status...

I guess the point I was making is that it isn't easy. The easiest way would be to transfer DH's points to your account and then book.
But, what status do you have? If it's anything lower than platinum with Marriott - you don't get much for your status. If you are only a few nights off the 50 for plat - different story. Last year I was a week of nights off 50- wasn't worth it to book them.

I abandoned trying to get to plat with Marriott last year because a few breakfasts weren't worth reworking my plans. I have loads of points and free nights (5 each year) but since I also have DVC and Hyatt and IHG, and Radisson and Hilton, the Marriott status is not so important to me. With SPG it was just so different.

Charge cards don't count, just credit cards and it's the mix of biz and personal so this will take your 5th slot.

Since I'm spending my summer up north (Toronto) I decided to look into Canadian churning (which is almost non-existent). I (online) chatted with a TD Visa rep this morning about the TD Visa Infinite Aeroplan card, which I had a year or so ago, but cancelled when the renewal fee hit. Asked her if I could re-apply and still get the 25,000 Aeroplan bonus (15,000 at acceptance and 10,000 after $2k MSR). She said since I haven't applied in the last 6 months I qualify for the bonus. Yay! I can easily spend $2k before we head back to Florida in mid-August! This gives me more space between my Citi AAdvantage biz applications (I've been holding off a bit on #2 since I'm not in Florida to receive it in the mail, though dh can bring me mail back).

Just wanted to share the good news. Not as lucrative as US churning, but since we fly a lot with Air Canada, more Aeroplan miles are always welcome in our household!

So I just made that painful call to Barclay about my Aviator Biz app. They did indeed receive my documents but, apparently, an AT&T bill does not suffice as a "utility" bill so I now need to send a bank statement since the utility bills are all in DH's name. Since that isn't the same level of PII, I am just going with regular mail. Good thing I called else I would have never known. I did ask why as an 8 year customer I was now having to provide this level of documentation and she said because it was a "new account" being a business card. Just ridiculous!

Another should I upgrade DH's Marriott Premier to Boundless? He has all 4 SPG/Marriott cards we have kept them all since the $99/85 fees is worth the free nights. His premier 25K certificated posted in May, we are going to SD in October so could use the 35K certificate. Thoughts?

My Aspire link is showing updated offer for the Surpass. I went for that over business because he's only 2/24 and it's identical to the Biz, but lower spend.

Instant approval and here I was excited to get a card number right away, and "systems are not responding". They can't provide card number and credit limit right now so awarding a $60 statement credit instead. I'll take it and be happy, but I needed to place an order yesterday and it would have been great to put on Amex.

International transit time at LHR----is 1h 25m long enough (PHL-LHR, LHR-DEL)? What about 1h 5m (DEL-LHR, LHR-PHL)?

In theory it should be, but if your outgoing flight is delayed you could have issues. We have had transfer times shorter than 1h 25m many times, but I like to leave at least 2 hours whenever possible (not always possible). If that is your only option, then I'd book the flights.

So how long does Amex actually take to report new accounts? By the 2nd statement?

I haven't seen anything for the personal Plat yet and I am wondering when I would be able to try for CIP3 (pending the cup is still flowing).

Historically, after the second statement. But with Amex changing the way and time in which points post, I don’t know if that has had any effect on when Amex reports new card accounts.

Whoop! There was an email with a link to get the card number so I gave it a try and I now have it. Yay!!

In trying to set up his Amex acct, it wants a reference number :confused3 Should I just wait until the card is here before doing that?

I’d add that the Hilton Surpass has 6x points at supermarkets, which the Biz does not have; and this makes the Surpass a better card to spend or MS your way towards the $15k/yr. needed for another FWN certificate, considering all the VGC/MCGC and GC deals and fuel perks that many grocery chains run.

I'm in 1P mode and have been pondering whether I should use my own link for #2. It's so tempting, but losing my Chase account is not worth the risk especially since I'm in pop-up jail with Amex. I should probably just use another Dischurner link. Does the pacing guideline hold for all Chase biz cards or just CIP? My CIP was April and CIC in June. I'm wondering if I need to wait until August to try for another CIP.
I know the pacing has already been addressed and I’d echo that 3 months is the best practice.

The self-support conundrum is definitely real! I’m not sure how you can walk away from the extra 20k points...there’s a small risk, but that’s a lot of points. I don’t have any insider knowledge that contributed to making that comment - I purely just wanted to make sure we weren’t completely overlooking the risks. If I had to guess, I’d say there won’t end up being any significant consequences - but I have no facts to back that up.

There are people here using their own links - and if I were faced with that decision, I probably would too. BUT I can respect somebody who feels that it’s not worth jeopardizing their Chase relationship in the future over that.
