Fastpasses are now on the same network

If you are park hopping at TDS, note that the fastpass networks have been combined. That means you cannot grab a FP at one park then hop over to grab a FP at the other park. Your "next fastpass" time applies to both parks.

They also installed some covered up machines that look like scanners in all the fastpass lines. So it seems likely that when digital FP is launched, they will be tied to tickets.

Update: As of this morning, nemo searider machines are issuing fastpass reminders rather than paper FP tickets. no idea what the situation is at other rides but I updated my app and do not see any place to pull digital FP yet.

No idea if the system will be more like Shanghai or Anaheim but FP are tied to tickets.

So you can't get FPs using your ticket for someone else to use it?
That’s similar to the rollout in Anaheim. For a couple weeks before Maxpass started, they started doing the FP reminders and needing to scan your ticket. You would still always pull them from physical machines.

From what I can tell, Anaheim and Shanghai use pretty much the same system, except Anaheim charges for it (And includes photos).

I think the rollout in Tokyo went very smoothly. By 11 AM, CMs didn't really need to explain the reminder system to guests and I didn't see any more people fumbling around in front of the scanners looking for their ticket. As of last year, I still saw lots of people in Anaheim struggle with fastpasses.

Tokyo also hasn't implemented the 30 minute minimum rule. So it is possible to grab a Fastpass for Nemo at rope drop then immediately head over to grab one for Journey to the Center of the Earth. I forget if this rule applies in Shanghai but it prevents excessive fastpasses in Anaheim which was a huge problem given "multiple experiences" passes.

Shanghai's app gives a push notification 5 minutes before your fastpass time starts which you can tap to open up your ticket code automatically. I haven't been able to get the Disneyland app for Anaheim to do this but I hope the Tokyo Disney Resort app gets this feature.

I guess I’m a little confused. So you can get the FPS on your phone right? Why do you have to still go to the fp machine?

Not yet. They started issuing fastpass reminders from fastpass machines but haven't launched digital FP yet. Digital fastpasses are expected to launch sometime between now and the 23rd.

Does anyone know how it is expected to work for English speaking guests once it's fully rolled out?

The app, to my knowledge, is still only available in Japanese. So, would locals and Japanese speakers be able to use the app to get Fast Passes. But, English speakers would still need to visit each of the rides and grab a paper Fast Pass?

Yes. There are currently no plans for an English language version of the app.

They don't really need to cater to non-Japanese guests because the majority of the people visiting the parks are locals.

I don't care that there are very few English speaking guests, I find that ridiculous. There aren't exactly tons of English speakers at Shanghai yet even they have an English app.

It is incredibly frustrating that TDR is quite literally the only Disney resort in the entire world where I cannot use the app to check wait times, make dining reservations, or get FP. Just because there aren't tons of foreign guests doesn't mean it's ok to disadvantage them!

In general this visit vs my previous visit, I found that accommodations for foreign guests had decreased while the number of foreign guests definitely increased. The Olympics are coming up too! Extremely frustrating and not something that would be allowed if Disney had more say over the parks!

To be fair, there is an English app that can tell you wait times. It isn’t the official TDR app though. I’m actually glad Disney has less say at TDR because it’s run so much better than the parks in the states.

Yes, agreed about TDR being the best resort and it being better off outside of Disney's hands in general, but NOT in regards to the handling of non-Japanese guests. If Shanghai can have an English language app there is zero reason Tokyo should not.

I can't reserve dining or get FPs on an unofficial app. So it's not a fair comparison.

TDR is hands down the worst Disney resort in the world at accommodating international guests, and no amount of excellence in the park changes that or makes it acceptable.

I'm sorry you're frustrated but I don't really know what to tell you. All I can say is that the parks are run exactly the way OLC wants them to be run. Local guests absolutely do have an advantage over overseas guests. We will have to agree to disagree on whether or not that is fair.

OLC scheduled maintenance on Mount Prometheus so that it will be covered in scaffolding during the Olympics but was clear during the 35th anniversary. That should tell you how much they care about the fact that the Olympics are coming up in terms of who & what they prioritize. Complaining about it is a bit like yelling into the void.

100% agree. I will defend the way these parks are run to the end

Everything is so clean and up to date since they have a yearly schedule. The staff are so friendly. I don’t think we had one rude person the entire trip. We did see some westerners but it’s clearly a local’s park.

The official TDR website has multiple languages tho including Indonesian! They do want tourists to come. The app is still new so maybe theyll release an English version in the future.

As far as translating the app, I think they're in line with most Japanese companies. It's quite common for Japanese companies to lock their apps to the Japan play store and not translate them. On the flip side, a Japanese person could complain just as much about the US parks. Why aren't their apps translated into Japanese? Hong Kong Disneyland's app is available in Japanese. I don't think that WDW is any friendlier to non-English speakers than TDR is to non-Japanese speakers.

TDR has started offering English food guides and been translating more of their website into other languages. They're moving to accommodate more foreign guests but if they never translate the app, you could always put in effort to learn Japanese.
