The Disneyland Hotel Paris is super expensive so if you can get it with AA miles, I'd do that. It looks so beautiful! We'll be there in 3 weeks (YAY!) and I used discounted hotels.com GCs to book a package then paid myself back with the Schwab cashout, but it would be a no-brainer if I had the AA miles.

We're staying at the DL Hotel Paris in October-I hope you have a wonderful time and I'll be super interested in hearing about it!

I'll add a few thoughts:

1. I do not doubt that the lack of any restriction (other than 5/24, velocity and credit limits) enforced on product or bonus that allows the CIPpy cup to flow also applies to all Ink products. See this DP of the SUBs pending on two CICs with the same EIN. So if someone were to go for the CIUpy cup, they should receive the bonus on the second, third, etc… but it won’t be as punny.

2. Or lucrative?

Assuming your math, where I’ll value UR at 1.5 cpp:

69,500 URs per CIU signup (50k + 15k + 4.5k) for a $3,000 MSR, no AF.

69,500 URs = $1,042.50/$3,000 MSR = 34.75% return

vs.

At least 105,000 URs per CIP signup (80k + 20k + $5k) for a $5,000 MSR.

105,000 URs = $1,575 - $95 AF = $1,480/$5,000 MSR = 29.6% return

Sure, the relative return is better with a CIU, but the absolute numbers put you at 35,500 less URs per CIU approval. How are you going to make up that difference, and what’s the cost to pursue those points you left on the table? Let’s be real, you’re not going to make up the ~35k UR difference by spending your way at 1.5x, 2x, 3x, or 5x bonus categories (you’d need to spend $23,667 on your CIU to get that extra 35,500 URs). You’d really need another SUB to make up that difference quickly. Assuming you stick with the recommended 3 months break between applications, you’re not going to squeeze in an extra CIU app when you wouldn’t do another app with the CIPpy cup in that same time. So drinking from the CIUpy cup puts you ~35k URs behind every 3 months compared to someone drinking from the CIPpy cup.

3. Yes, you can use Venmo on the CIP. What is the cost of Venmoing $2,000, which is the difference in MSR between the CIU and CIP? $60! If you’re really having a hard time meeting that last $2,000 in 3 months, use Venmo. The way I look at it, is an extra ~35k URs worth $60 in fees? (Please say, yes.)

4. If you’re really enticed to start drinking from the CIUpy cup, but you only have the CIP(s) because you’ve been drinking exclusively from the CIPpy cup, and you don’t have a CIU or CIC from which to support yourself for an extra 15k UR, I’ve seen DPs that Chase allows PCs of CIP to CIC/CIU before the first year. These are business cards and not subject to the CARD Act. However, this is not recommended to stay above board with Chase, but also because you have to call in to PC and it attracts eyes to your account.
While we're on the topic of Venmo...if you drinking from CIPpy already because your scared of the MSR, you should REALLY consider this. This loophole is a goldmine and someday it will close. Get those points while you can.

Some people may not like the Venmo route...and if you don't, then CIUpy cup is certainly an option.

I think we should also add that if you're on the CIPpy cup AND you've never gotten a CIU...now is NOT the time to get one. Someday, when CIPpy goes away, you'll still be eligible for a CIU. If they start enforcing the 24 month language, you will be glad that CIU is still an option to you. The same goes for CIC, don't get one and leave that as a card you can get later. If you really want a CIC for the category bonus then downgrade a CIP to it (but you have to wait a year to do that).

Thoughts on CIU Support Links

This is potentially big news for people who are struggling to hit the $5k MSR on the CIP repetitively. CIPpy cup is great but can be an overwhelming amount of MSR. (Especially in 2 player mode). We don’t specifically have DPs though to know if you can drink from the CIUpy cup though so somebody will need to be first. I bet it works though!

IF It works, you would get 69,500 URs per signup (50k + 15k + 4.5k) for a $3,000 MSR vs 105k with CIPpy for a $5,000 MSR. AND no annual fee on the CIUpy cup. The CIU is actually a better % return. One problem is for people who don’t have a CIC or CIU yet, you can’t get that initial 15k (or you have to downgrade a CIP if you’ve had one open a year). So that first card might need to be done using a DISchurner link.

No matter how you look at it, this is a great thing to come the game. More options is always better!!!
Based on my experience, you don’t have to have held a business card for a year to PC it. I had no problem sending an SM to change my CIU that got in 12/18 to a CIP so I could refer DH for the CIP.

ETA: I will concede that the $2k difference in MSR between the CIP and CIU could be spent towards another MSR on a card issued by a bank other than Chase. So while a cautious velocity won’t allow you to squeeze in another app with Chase to make up the difference in UR bonuses you’d get from the CIU vs. the CIP, you could slot in another app from Amex, Citi, Barclays, etc. that you can put the $2k difference towards and get a big SUB return in another currency.
I can confirm I PC’d my CIU that opened in 9/18 to a CIP in 5/19. I did call not SM.

Interesting, I PC’d by CIU to CIP via SM and it is less than a year old. Maybe it was my lucky day? I didn’t even think about calling and went straight to SM.
That’s interesting - How recent was this? All PCs have been denied via SM recently (or maybe not that recently lol) so we've been telling everybody to call. I also attempted on multiple occasions to PC a CIC and/or a CIU to a CIP prior to hitting the 12 month threshhold but I was denied every time. I never tried SM though since the widespread accepted advice is that Chase will not do PCs via SM. I'm wondering if something has changed on this front recently.

When is the last time anybody else tried to do a PC via SM? Also perhaps business cards are different than personal.

Guess what I got in the mail today
I have been trying non stop for 2 weeks now. I have 3 reservations I can get bands for so I am piecing them together for bands if need be. Finally able to get one today for DD5 with Baymax. Didn't see this one yet but happy to get it...happier when I actually receive it. That is her favorite character. Glad they will ship out in a few days and not a couple weeks before arrival. Toy Story for DD2 is my next goal.

Ok...now I am retracting this. It was 5/30 or 5/31. I guess I did call in because now I am remembering the gentleman reviewing the laundry list agreement that I had to say yes to. And then I sent the SM to expedite once DH was approved.

Sorry for the confusion. I hate making phone calls so I thought I had avoided this one.

I haven't seen the Baymax one. What does it look like?

I’m still encouraged that they let you do a PC in under a year though. Was that for real? If so it could make a difference to those drinking from CIPpy as they could PC one of their CIPs in under a year to a CIC which may have value to some folks.

I switched my towel fold after watching Marie on netflix..... it was an amazingly easy way to go from sloppy towel closet to neat all the time! Now I fold everything Kondo style...so practical
I had to google and watch it. I don’t see the big deal, it’s not complicated and fairly close to what I do. Won’t save me any space. I have a crappy triangular cabinet, so I’m always looking for some magic way to fold that will help me fit more towels
We got office puppies today!!!!
No fair! You get puppies at work!
I have to say that was the best part of working at an animal hospital. There were a lot of worst parts though.
Guess what I got in the mail today
Love it. So jealous!
