crazy fight in Disneyland (Updated, 7/23/19)

I was stunned that it took 3 1/2 minutes for ANY security to sow up. And when they did, they did almost nothing to defuse the situation. As said above, I too have seen security come out of nowhere. almost instantly and effectively when the need has arisen. That response was wholly inadequate.

I've always heard that Disney has security everywhere, you just aren't aware of it, and now I don't believe that at all. That went on waaaaaay too long without security presence and could have been so much worse than it was.

The incident itself is awful but the slow response time (and lack of response once they arrived!) left me disappointed and concerned for park safety, to be honest. I hope they take the opportunity to revisit some of their security measures.

Toon town is in the back of park. I'm not sure how often they have to respond to violence, but my guess is it's not that often. Under 1 minute? There must not be much going on in that town. You know the saying police solve crimes they don't prevent them. A lot of bad stuff can happen in a couple of minutes.

Well, Toon Town is also right next to Guardians of the Galaxy, which I suspect is one of the busiest areas of the park right now, with lots of security. They could have sent Chewbacca over.....that would be a great disguise for security! But he would be out of place in Toon town.

Oh... just realized you may mean Galaxy’s Edge, which IS in Disneyland Park. My bad!

That's correct. Toontown is in DL and Guardians is in DCA.

That fight did lead me to question: so what is Disney security, exactly? Are they police officers? Rent a cops? Lower level, like mall security? It didn't seem to me like they were very effective in managing that situation.

That was SUPER intense.. the hitting, the yelling, the swearing, the hair pulling, the people on the ground, the toddler just wandering around. WOW!

There are lots of other places covering it on the Internet. Considering the threads keep getting deleted it’s obvious the DIS has chosen to not keep it as a topic. Can’t blame them really, tensions got high real quick in both threads I’d seen today. We’re all opinionated about it (myself included) but I’ll happily take my opinions elsewhere to keep the DIS peace.

Except that there is no direct access from Toontown to GE. For anyone unwilling to catapult out of Gadget's Go Coaster to get to Batuu, you'd have to exit Toontown under the railroad, then hoof it through all of Fantasyland, and actually exit Fantasyland to get to one of GE's entrances.

It would be odd not to have a thread here to discuss this, particularly as contributors here often display a level of experience and knowledge about the park that could add the clarity that might be missing from non-Disney forums. For example, what are security allowed (and not allowed) to do in an unprecedented event like this?
Perhaps the mods could set some expectations of what should or should not be posted/linked with inappropriate posts deleted rather than removing the entire thread.

If posters do not abide by those rules, their posts will be deleted. If more than one poster refuses to abide by the rules or one poster repeatedly refuses to abide, the whole thread may have to be deleted. The expectations were set a long time ago and are clear.

We just watched the video. We were in DCA that day. My husband is a Marine and said he wouldn't ever get involved in trying to break up a fight like that unless me or my kids were being directly threatened. He said "I would get the -- outta there."

Towards the end, it becomes pretty clear that this guy is a gang member. There was a female security guard who didn't intervene, but instead called for backup, rightly so. This guy isn't someone one person should try and go up against.

Maybe it's time to arm the security guards with tasers, though...
