Little Mermaid casting

One of the Disney Facebook sites had quite an issue with this topic and people apparently got quite cruel and nasty in their comments so the administrators banned it as a topic (and I applaud them for it). So if you do make comments on this thread be kind and respectful please. Think before you post so you do not offend.

She's half fish for cripes sake and its the other half people are losing their minds over. SMH.

I will say this- I'm very pale and there are colors that I simply cannot wear. From a standpoint of cinematography, this makes perfect sense. Underwater scenes are going to be outstanding. I kind of hope they switch to gold fins instead of the teal.

I will jump back in to add I'm not so much a fan of Melissa McCarthy. But whatever. Its not like Hollywood can be expected to wrap its head around multiple plus size women all having careers at the same time.

I said this in another thread: I think if they are doing a straight shot-for-shot remake then they should have cast closer to the animated template, but if they are going to change up the story and do something more original, which I would prefer, then I am fine with it.

I'm holding out on my opinion of Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, but otherwise I think the casting looks great.

The Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney movie and I am hopeful about the Live Action version. I just want the music to be good. That's what I loved about the first one. And that's my slight concern about Melissa McCarthy...I don't know if she can pull off "Pour Unfortunate Souls" the way Pat Carroll did. :) I think Halle Bailey certainly has the voice to step into the role of Ariel. ("Step into" the role.......with her, what do you call them? Oh----feet. ;) :) )

I'm excited! I saw The Little Mermaid as my first movie theater experience when I was 8. Ariel has always been my favorite princess! I can't wait to watch it. I never really liked Aladdin, but we watched the live action on a cruise and I loved it!

One of my absolutely favorite Disney movies is the live-action Cinderella with Whitney Houston as the Fairy Godmother. Wonderful music, amazing vocals, great acting, and Jason Alexander and Whoopi Goldberg add awesome comedic elements. And actors are cast with no regard for "racial sense" - for example, an African-American/Caucasian parent pair have a Filipino-American child.

It's a fantasy. As is Little Mermaid. I loved sharing the 1997 Cinderella with my children, and if the live-action Little Mermaid is a good film, I will love sharing it with my grandchildren.

I'm glad to see there are others who are also looking forward to seeing the new Little Mermaid! :) It's my favorite Disney movie and I like to be able to just be happy about with some other Disney fans. :)

Oh yeah. And the 2014 remake of "Annie" did really well at the box office too. Another gem.

I'm excited for it! The Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney movie, tied with Beauty and the Beast. ;) . I love redheaded Ariel, but I'm excited for Halle Bailey to get a shot. Plus, I always saw a lot of myself in Belle as a kid which is why I got so attached to BATB, so I'm excited for a new group of kids to get to see a princess that looks like them, too. :)

I don't like the casting, I don't like "The little Mermaid" anyway, so I won't watch it.
