Summer blackout days lifted for case members?

IMHO, I think unblocking AP's would really be a mess because it is terribly unfair to those who upgraded. Unblocking CM's I would imagine is pretty easy, doesn't cost them anything, and not a PR disaster.

Full rack rate rooms are just sitting there not getting booked. That is a lot of revenue they are losing. People who stay onsite don't leave ... therefore generating more food/drink sales too. Bring back discounted rooms or a package deal!

Oh man would I love some discounted rooms... I doubt it’ll happen over Halloween season, but I would LOVE to knock some off my $2800 standard DLH room T^T

Or how about they do unblock the Ap’s a little because they already screwed us by taking away a ton more days and also raising the cost! Two years ago, I could go most Sundays and halfway into June. Last year, they took away half my Sundays in Oct, Dec and April. This year, they’ve taken them all away and took away all of June. And the price has been raised. For a pass no one else can buy anymore. It’s greedy crap. Now they need to get more people in, so throw us a bone! Not asking for all of the summer, but an extra couple days would be nice.
I think the difference here is that you renewed your pass, knowing those were the parameters of the pass. If they unblock lower level passes now, after they have blocked them and people have bought more expensive passes to overcome the planned blocked times, then Disney is changing the rules on people after they have already bought the more expensive pass. I don't have a pass, but I think the changes you are talking about were not done retrograde to an existing pass that you had already purchased; please correct me if I am wrong!

Agree on all points. The lack of public or even AP room discounts is really baffling. Why the heck wouldn't they want that revenue?

I really think Disney has hit their price ceiling on rooms but they don't want to admit it and lower the rates or offer discounts. Seems like they are having quite the internal struggle here.

I feel you! They blocked military rate rooms until end of August. I was stunned because when I look on the DL website every type of room is available at all the hotels on the dates I am going. They are losing tons of money having all those rooms sit empty.

Plus outside of EMH and proximity, there aren’t any extra perks to having an on-site reservation. At least in June people got an automatic reservation for the new land. They should at least offer something like that for on-site guests.

I agree, I think they have gone loco on price. DLR's room rates are much higher than WDW's right now. Even though there are fewer hotels, the huge jump in price for deluxe rooms is shocking! $729 a night for a room facing a roof/parking lot at GC is crazy. For crying out loud, I was in Tokyo a few months back and the 5 star Conrad with city view and executive lounge access wasn't even that much.

No doubt, they are blindsided with low turnout. I can see why they initially blocked discounted rooms ... why not make more during what was expected to be a full capacity summer. But, I bet their bean counters have been watching how low the bookings are. And even if the parks were busy, those rooms are still sitting empty. Makes no sense to keep the discounts blocked. I will be really surprised if they do not reinstate them back soon. Get some revenue versus NO revenue.

Indiana Jones and Peter Pan are both at 25 minutes right now and I’m dyiiiiiing that I’m not there. We deliberately decided to wait until the first week of August to let the ‘crowds simmer down a bit’ and now it’s like WHY!!! 😂😭

I had to stop looking.

About an hour ago I logged in and could get a Oga's reservation for 8:30 tonight. Then I saw RSR was 20 minutes. 20 MINUTES!!

We are in the same boat; we waited until the first part of August in hopes that it would give us time to figure out the best plan of attack. Now I want to just be there!

WooHoo!! That's great news and I just checked myself and Self Admit was lifted but Main Entrance passes are still blocked out so CM's cannot bring guests, only the CM can get in...thanks for posting :-)

Main entrance is unblocked through July 12 at both parks except 4th of July at Disneyland.

On the HUB, main entrance passes are blocked out of Disneyland on July 4 and then from July 13 through September. Main entrance passes for California Adventure are blocked out July 4 and then July 13-14, July 27, August 11, August 15, September 17, September 19, September 22, September 24, September 26, and September 29

It is shocking what they get for rooms at DLR. I had a garden view room at the Contemporary with a gorgeous view of Bay Lake for $375 a night with an AP discount over Spring Break. WDW hotels are far more reasonable and you get free round trip transportation to the airport.

I’ve stayed at GCH and Paradise Pier. I can’t justify the expense anymore.

To compare apples to apples you need to look at the price of your Contemp room without the AP discount. AP discounts at WDW are much larger and more generous than we ever see out here (including weekends?!) and not everyone staying at Contemp was in a discounted room. If you take away your discount you’ll get close to DLR rack rate prices.

I respectfully disagree. Rack rate for that room is maybe $500, and it’s a huge room with somewhat of a view. No where near $700+ with a crummy view.

Rack rate for a Contemporary Garden View with tax was $543-717 depending on when you went in April. The large amount of discounts WDW runs obscures their rack rate prices (which anyone not “in the know” is paying). DLR demand is high enough they haven’t needed to run the generous discounts WDW does. As long as you can find availability with a deal WDW is cheaper but if you don’t get a deal you can find yourself not far from DL prices at the top hotels. https://www.mousesavers.com/2019-contemporary-room-rates-season-dates/

No they didn't. We have a military discount room booked July 4-7 at DLH (Premium Pool View). I booked it less than a month ago.

I originally was going to go early June, but family emergency kept us from going. (no room was booked) Back then, I found a military rate no issues. Fast forward to last week when I tried again. Apparently around June 6th, they put the official block on discounted bookings. I kept hounding them to finally get that nugget of info. :) They said if I booked prior to then and wanted to change dates, I still could have received the military discount. However, if you booked after that date, no discounts allowed. It not only included military -- AP, CM, and Visa cardholders. ALL discounts blocked as of June 6th. :(

***ETA*** @DLgal I kept really hounding them (I called everyday) after I asked in an earlier thread about discounted rooms and you said you got one. That's how I found out about the June 6th block. And even after I heard it from the first CM, I called back 2 more times to make sure. Yeah, I was a pain but I love that discount.

I just missed it. But I am glad you got it! :thumbsup2
