DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Thanks for all the well wishes about the interview. It went well and said the job will be mine pending background check and drug testing which won't be a problem. It is a temp job right now but the company is difficult to get hired on directly.

Let me and Norm know if they need any more help.
We may both be in the market for something different.
This place is hiring but that would involve a move to Missouri and who knows if we will end up as a lake with all the water being sent down the river.

Morning chaps from an overcast London. This is the most un-summery June I can remember in a long time. Sitting in Lego towers with a Sausage and Egg on White and a double espresso, so not too shabby from the Easternmost chapter. Man hugs for those in need, manly back slaps for everyone else, and for all that is holy someone pop down the liquor store for some Vitamin R, a mid-shelf Bourbon and some frosty ones from Cigar City. And grab some peanuts on the way through. Or some trail mix. Maybe some M&M's as well.

Have a great Friday boys.

Good stuff, JT. I took the same view on the Lego job, it was a step down in terms of seniority, but you get in and make your own luck, right?

Apart from the whole "How is drug testing a thing" (it's heavily restricted in the EU) How is drug testing still a thing with legalised weed?

I can't speak for everyone, but regardless of if it's legal (only in some states in the US), employers still have the right to not have their employers high/wasted/whatever so drug testing is still very much a thing. Most employers frown on drinking at lunch or at least if the person comes back tipsy. I've heard many people say having a single drink or two at the outside is okay. Essentially, it boils down to the policies of the employer.

Personally, there are certain professions I really wouldn't want to be drunk or high (Doctor, fireman, bus driver to name a few)

Morning, folks.
Thanks for all the well wishes about the interview. It went well and said the job will be mine pending background check and drug testing which won't be a problem. It is a temp job right now but the company is difficult to get hired on directly.
Great news!
This is the most un-summery June I can remember in a long time.
Opposite for us. We’ve had highs of over 30 already. One day was 31 at 10pm. Don’t even remember that happening in July/August!

Same up here. It’s legal, but you can’t be under the influence. And for some jobs (air traffic controller, eg) you can’t have any in your system. If you’re a heavy user, it can take over a month for it to be completely out of your system

Don't get me wrong, I'm with ya on certain professions. I don't know if its media inflation over here on it, but we hear stories of people being fired because they have had a drink or two at the weekend. I would imagine that's a false impression, but never really asked.

OK. Now I have a moral dilemma. A first world one admittedly. I missed out on the seats for the Bears through the NFL/TM route. I have just had an email from the NFL saying if I register on the Spurs (shudder) website, I can potentially get a ticket for the Bears and the Panthers in the hospitality suite. Apart from getting the outlay through the spending executive committee in our house (where I am on pretty solid ground as I am renting my season ticket at West Ham which nets out the spend), it means I have to register with Spurs as a (gulp) supporter. I think I'm gonna have to hold my nose and do it.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Long week with a 4 day Europe trip. Back on a plane later today but all good since it’s to the mouse house.

Norm and Rob, thoughts are with you with the job related challenges.

All the best to Declan on his graduation and related events - pass on congrats to you g man for me Darcy and congrats on the Raptors.

To the rest of yas cheers, congrats and prayers. Enjoy your bacon, bourbon, rum and families this weekend gents!

Mrs oblivious is one lucky lady, my friend.

Can you tell her that? She doesn't believe me when I say it.

So... an email that really didn't tell you anything at all. Thinking that's the first time that's ever happened.

Absolutely. Every e-mail I get at work is important and cherished forever.

Congratulations!

We have a good deal of staff that is required to operate state vehicles as part of their duties, so being under any influence would be a huge problem.

No big deal. As long as you don't put that in writing where someone can see it and spill the beans, it'll be your secret forever.

Have fun storming the castle!

They sent out an email that said new contract was signed, but not any details. So, I really have no idea.

Typical. Hopefully you can stay in front of the fiscal tsunami.

I was talking with someone more optimistic than me (hard to believe there is someone like that!) and he is firmly convinced KY will hit the lottery in the near future with an opiod settlement, a black lung settlement, and legalization of marijuana production.

Congratulations! Hopefully more money for trips to ride IASW.

Set a new record low for my part of the state this AM. Even still, SWMBO says it (not me) is too hot in the bedroom. Got to love menopause. :headache:

On a positive note I received my Father's Day present from SWMBO and the kids yesterday... a package from Omaha Steaks. I'll be eating well for a few days.

Yes and no. Depends on the profession I'm sure and the amount. I know an individual that lost his job because he got picked up for driving under the influence one weekend and had his license suspended. Justification was that having a license was part of his job requirements (marginally) and without it he couldn't do his job.

Congrats. I hope the drug test isn't too hard, did you study? ;)

Pretty sure it is still May here, still waiting for the June weather.

Thanks Mike. Enjoy the trip to the World.

Raptors with the NBA championship. When did we let Canadians in? :lmao: And, Leonard is 3rd all time scoring in playoff (1 year) behind Jordan and James. Good company. Now, let the summer of trades begin.

So... an email that really didn't tell you anything at all. Thinking that's the first time that's ever happened.

I did talk to my friend who got the axe. She is able to retire, but she just wanted to work longer and go on her own time. The whole department didn't get cut, just a few close to time or those brand new. It gives me more hope, but not certainty.

I read somewhere the guy did it for about 8 grand.

That would be a reason. Then the question, who would want to pay for the hit? Is it a really old grudge from a bat flip years ago?

Only legal in 2 states (?) but still is on NFL list banned substances of drug testing.

Drugs like meth, cocaine stay in your system a very short period of time. Cannabis will be there longer, but don't remember if that can only be determined by hair test or not. There's a job opening - drug tester watching the urine from the source.

That's a dilemma. If you do it, I'm calling you a dirty spurs supporter.

She won't believe this group either. Who would?

Enjoy those Omaha steaks. Sadly, I think KY will be the last to legalize cannabis, gambling, or any other new revenue stream that wouldn't penalize the majority of taxpayers. We waited to be last on the lottery, so it wasn't the financial windfall everyone thought. Could our representatives be visionaries? Well, when the teachers called in sick to drive to the Capitol to protest the pension bill, the Governor said a child was molested somewhere in KY that day and it was the teachers' fault. It's that type of thinking and blaming that got us here.
