Pin trading question

My kids (9,7,5) want to start trading pins at WDW. They are not serious enough to be collectors so it is all for fun. Any suggestions or tips to how to go about. I was going to buy some pins from Amazon that had a handful and all reviews were mixed about what were authentic and not. If they are only doing it for fun with cast members and each other does it matter? What about carrying them? I was told they get too heavy carrying them around on a lanyard.

My daughter was the same a few years back, she was 11 then. She thought it would be fun so I ordered some pins from Disney. She only traded a few times with cast members and was too nervous to try and trade with other guests. She also got tired of them around her neck, so I ended up wearing them and they are a bit annoying and can be heavy. After the 2nd day she just left them in the hotel room. As for authentic, even though your kids may not be serious I would be sure you're only trading authentic pins in the park. There are lots of people who love pin trading and I personally would feel bad for trading a fake or scrapper on a board or with a cast member, but that's just my opinion.

Thank you. I think my daughter will be interested more than the two boys (the younger two) Thanks for the advice.

my boys really liked it, they are now 9 and 12. The first time they had a lanyard and they didnt like it cause they kept having to take it off for rides , we ended up with a book. We never trade with other guest only cast members. Its been really fun adding to it every time we go. We bought our first set on ebay they were 5.00 for the lot. It didnt matter what we got cause the kids were going to trade them off anyways. ( they were 5 and 8 the first time)

what kind of book? They are going to be wearing "Fanny Bags" this year. Hopefully it would be easier for them to hold their autograph books and I was thinking the lanyards as well. Maybe the book would fit in?

its kinda like the old cd cases it zips up on the sides so they dont loose any backs.. they are really good for the pins they love and dont want to loose. if you google it you will see. you could put them on the fanny bags I have seen people do that as well.
some cast members have a felt square on there belt that holds 6-9 pins

My sister bought some pins from someone on EBay. We aren’t sure if all of them are genuine Disney pins because unless you really pay attention to details, it’s hard to tell. I think she got something like 25 for $10 or something like that. It was still fun because cast members at Disney still have to trade you even if the pins aren’t real.

Kids are excited. I bought two lots of pins and let them each take a turn picking a pin until they were gone. What did your sisters kids use to carry the pins?

We did the exact same thing! So sadly, my mom and I just got back from Disney on Wednesday and we FORGOT the bag of pins (we had like 30!) to trade :(. We were so upset when we found out...once we got to Disney. Our original plan was to put them in little snack bags and take a few to the park each day/put some on your lanyard if they have one. (Keep the ones you don’t want to trade at home or in your hotel/resort).

My girls love it! We buy a lot of 100 on EBay before each trip and they keep the ones they want and leave them home in their book. They LOVE trading. It is also A great way for kids to interact politely with adults at the park to ask them to trade. It’s really nice how the cast members are so sweet about it.
We do it for the Disney cruises to and my girls love going to check the book every day whenever we walk by. The person in the store On the cruise ask them to be honorary captain’s during the captain payne trading event. It was amazing they had so much fun. At her last day at the beach club the man who is the captain their new that they wanted to trade pins and knew what they were looking for and would save it for them whenever he got it. It really makes the trip special and make sure kid have a connection with the cast members

Also, for your seven in your five-year-old it might be cool to say they’re from the fairy godmother and leave like five pins every morning for each kid. We have the fairy godmother leave little things in the room once a day so that it cuts down on them wanting bigger expensive souvenirs.
